If you get the straw from a field do you spray it with anything so you’re not introducing additional bugs or parasites?
@DinasGarden3 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! I don’t spray the straw with chemicals. Instead, I let it sit in the sun for a few days to reduce the presence of bugs and parasites.

i experimented with 6 plants, topping off three plants (bell, banana, jalapeno) and leaving the other three alone and based on the results, i dont recommend it. Topping off only sets the plant back, it practically slows the plant growth and grow leaves that's close to the soil which can introduce diseases. Also the yields were the same-ish.
@Yvxszio4 күн бұрын
your plant is small but is fruiting, which is a sign that you're doing something wrong. At that stage you should up pot

Thanks for your comment! No additional nutrients were used. The seed grows well in just water or soil initially. Let me know if this works for you!

Why pinch the flowers off that’s the fruit is it not
@DinasGarden20 күн бұрын
Hi! Yes, those early blooms would become fruit. However, by pinching them off, we help the plant focus its energy on developing a stronger root system and more foliage, leading to healthier and more productive plants later on. It may seem counterintuitive, but it’s a common practice for better long-term yields. Thanks for watching! 💚

I did not know coir could be used as mulch. Interesting. I usually use straw, but didn't cut it up. Who has time for that? 😅
@DinasGarden27 күн бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Coir can be a great mulch option, even if it’s not as commonly used. It offers benefits comparable to other mulches. We cut the straw manually for our small containers. This method is perfect for tiny gardens or balconies. But let’s be real, if you have a larger garden or lots of containers, it’s best to use pre-cut straw or cut it with a mower or shredder. The key is to make sure the straw is in small pieces to get all the benefits discussed in the video, no matter how you cut it.

Why no mention of pine needles?
@DinasGarden27 күн бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out! Pine needles can be a great mulch option, especially for acid-loving plants. We focused on other types of mulch for this video but appreciate the suggestion. Have you had good results with pine needles in your garden?

Is it better grown indoors or outdoor
@DinasGarden22 күн бұрын
Thank you for your question! They can be grown both indoors and outdoors, but outdoors is generally better. They need about 3-5 hours of direct sunlight daily. Indoor conditions can lead to mold and fungus issues due to poor air circulation. If growing indoors, place them near a sunny window and ensure good air flow.

For how many days do we have to keep it in the dark? Till we see roots or the leafy part?
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
As mentioned in the video, keep the microgreens in the dark for about 5-6 days until you see the leafy part start to emerge. After that, you can move them into the light. Good luck! 💚

But where do they get the minerals from?
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
Thank you for your question! In the video, I only used water, but for optimal growth, microgreens need a hydroponic nutrient solution. This solution provides essential minerals and nutrients, like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which are important for healthy plant development.

One betroot per big container?
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
You can use smaller containers too. Just make sure each beet has at least a 3-gallon pot to grow well. Good luck 💚
@billmerrell2797Ай бұрын
Are you doing this with smaller seeds like pak choi, broccoli, kale and others. When I have tried this the germinating seeds get all twisted up and grow weird. I've been using the green microgreen trays I got off of amazon with the screen tray that needs some sort of grow pad. I'll have to experiment with this some more.
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Yes, smaller seeds like pak choi, broccoli, and kale can be tricky. Ensuring good airflow and proper light can help prevent them from getting twisted. Experimenting with different methods and trays is a great idea. Good luck 💚

Very interisting. What kinf of water u use to spray microgreen? Do u use nutrient water or only water?
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
Thank you for your comment! We use filtered water to spray them. It's important to ensure the water is clean to avoid any contamination. you can also use tap water if it's safe for drinking. Avoid water with high chlorine or mineral content, as it might affect microgreen growth. If tap water is your only option, let it sit for 24 hours to allow chlorine to dissipate. The nutrients needed for their early growth come from the seeds themselves. While some people use nutrient water to provide extra nourishment, it’s not necessary for the initial growth stages.
@user-gv1eg7ch9dАй бұрын
That’s crazy! So are they really as nutritious as fully grown vegetables that have taken up minerals from the soil through their roots?

What kind of Medium planting? Just cocopeat?
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
A good potting mix for tomatoes should be well-draining but also moisture retentive. A mix containing ingredients like peat moss or coco peat, compost, perlite or vermiculite meets this need.

I repotted mine barehands, and propagated barehands as well. I never had any bristles get stuck in my hand. They are really soft and fine. I did however just now brush one of my peppers plants against my bunny ear cactus and the bristles where stuck in the leaf of my pepper plant. My hands are probably to rough for them to stick me. So my point being is if you have soft skin on your hands where some protection! No glove no love!
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! The bunny ears cactus does have tiny bristles called glochids, which can be very irritating if they get into your skin. That's why I recommend wearing gloves when handling them for added protection. Happy gardening 💚

Hi! When you snip off the top leaves to make it more compact, does that mean it will become a dwarf tree? Thank you for sharing this! I'm so excited to watch my avocado pit sprout further, and to repot it!
@DinasGardenАй бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Snipping off the top leaves encourages a bushier growth but doesn’t turn the avocado into a true dwarf tree. It helps the plant become more compact and promotes a fuller shape. I'm glad you're enjoying the process-happy growing 💚
