How to Make Sprouts at Home in a Jar | Grow Superfood

Green Pea Sprouts have a delicious crunchy mildly sweet flavor. They grow fast and have a lot of vitamins.
In this video, we will show you how easily you can sprout green peas in a jar and harvest them after a few days.

STEP-BY-STEP TUTORIAL:
1. Soak the seeds overnight:
3 tablespoons per 34 oz(1 l) jar.
Cover with filtered water.
Place in a dark place for 12-24 hours.
2. In the next morning drain the water using a cheesecloth:
You can reuse water to water your plants.
It’s important to drain the peas thoroughly.
3. Soak twice a day for 5 minutes (5-6 days).
4. Drain all the water from the jar.
5. place the jar upside down at an angle to allow drainage and air flow through the cheesecloth, using a bowl or dish rack to support the jar.
6. Keep storing the jar in a dark place.
7. Harvest.
8. Wash the sprouts and remove spoiled sprouts and
unsprouted seeds.
9. Drain with a colander or
move into a paper towel-lined container.
10. Let the sprouts dry completely.
11. Store in a closed container in
a refrigerator for up to week.

Do you eat the whole thing including the seed that sprouted? Wouldn't that be spoilt?

The sprouting process activates enzymes, making the entire sprout nutritious and safe to eat. However, if there are any signs of spoilage, such as a foul odor or mold, it's best to discard the sprouts. Otherwise, enjoy the whole sprout for its nutritional benefits!

How do you eat them? Do you cook them or eat them raw?

Both options are good. There are many recipes with sprouts. You can eat them fry by using them in a stir-fry or add it raw to a salad (there are many kinds of salads that include sprouts).

What's the smell like? Mine has a yeast-ish smell and I'm certain they've become contaminated. They aren't brown though. Worried about e.coli and salmonella. Did you use any special type of peas? Sprouting ones which have been validated safe?

The smell you describe certainly sounds abnormal. To avoid any chance of contamination, we strongly recommend that after each soaking, place the jar upside down at an angle to allow drainage and air flow through the cheesecloth, using a bowl or dish rack to support the jar. We recommend use organic pea seeds intended for spouting or microgreens. There are many types to try.
