Quick summary of what I’ve learned so far: Ren had a really bad experience with mental health system for 10 years. They would tell him his physical symptoms were in his mind. He finally found a doctor in Belgium who immediately knew, from his symptoms, that he had Lyme disease. For 18 months he underwent treatment. He got stem cell transplants and other medications for the effects of the Lyme disease, and undergoes daily infusions, and neurological treatments to try to help neural connections be made. He is a prolific artist who has to deal with these issues ongoing. One result of his condition was his body’s inability to tolerate most foods. Currently he can eat mo st meats, a limited amount of vegetables, and herbs, and has been able to add rice to his diet. If he eats something he can’t tolerate then he loses 2-3 days to debilitating symptoms. Since October 2024 he’s been in Canada for ongoing treatment which is likely to last until June 2025. He has had multiple surgeries. He’s relocating from Britain to America to be closer to his doctor in Canada so it’s easier for him to get treatment. The 10 years or so of being incorrectly diagnosed, where the pros would keep telling him his symptoms were caused by his mind, resulted in, likely incurable, damage to his brain. Talk about jumping to the conclusion that what he was telling them about his experience was in his mind. He wound up with such physical frailty (23 hours a day confined to his bed, with severe malnutrition, in almost unbearable pain, and a period of psychosis resulting from the inappropriate treatment of his condition - think steroids - that it is a wonder he survived. Another cautionary tale of patients not being listened to, and instead being at the mercy of doctors who decided that they knew better than him.

sry if i interupt, but i think your missing the part here when he says good or evil. im bipolar 2 and im evil sometimes out of nowhere, and im good for the intentions of being so, and its pretty black and white to me. i can not control this thing. its more like if you oppose me i be evil, and get my way back at you and let you suffer kind of thing, but if like you be my buddyi will ligh good fortune on you, and help you thrive sort of thing. i might be narsisistic and be on the spectre of a psychopat. and this for me is turning with the tide im on. and in the bottom im a good person, grew up in christianity that my mom was attending this meeting and my father was quite the oposite.. wich i think changed my DNS in the first place? i heard that bipolarity is a gene you can turn on or off and strong impacts in your emotional life can turn these on or off? idk.. im still me.. bad and evil and i cant help it either way

Hi, I’m glad to hear you’re interested in ACT 😊 I will try to add some more videos about it in future. In the meantime there are lots of good ACT videos on KZbin by Dr Russ Harris. Mindfulness is a key part of ACT, so I would recommend starting by practising mindfulness on a regular basis. I have some old videos on this channel explaining what mindfulness is.

I think the main point to take out from this song is claim from professional that says "basically your mind is making you sick" complitelly dismissing the reality of his anxieties. His "psychosis" and "mental health illness" are in my opinion healthy reactions to unhealthy situations and he is raging against that in saying we are all acting like virus destroying the world, each other and ourselves and he is called sick for not being ok in face of this. We like to project our darkness to others for them to carry. Its like a modern form of scapegoating. In gospels Jesus would go to these kind of people, especially in one of the story where there was this man on side of thr community who would shout and beat himswlf with rocks and community would chain him but he kept fleeing. I wont go deeper into ins and outs of the story but Jesus went to him by simply meeting him with love he casted the "spirits" (internalised community members who decided he is the sick one, who beat him, who dismiss him and who needes him to stay sick for them to have a scapegoat) that were haunting him, into pigs and they jumped off the cliff. In next scene this man was sitting with Jesus perfectly sane and when the community saw that, they got scared. What would they now build their peace and identity on when they didnt have that one to whom they could pour their darkness into? Its not your mind who makes you sick, its the community thats sick, its the world thats sick. We are as healthy as our relationships, we are that social creatures. And in the end instead of pouring his darkness to everyone else by only saying that the world is sick, he recognises and takes responsibility of him partaking in same problem "while im bleeding, im the reason cause in doing the same". This man is a prophet of our time, he is saying what people want to close their eyes from.

Ooh. Great reaction. There are some depressing reactions by therapists out there.. they jump straight to assuming the therapist is accurate in their portrayal of Ren’s problems being factitious. I’ve also just seen that you have some videos on dissociation and DID. I’ve added them to my list to watch when I have the spoons. I experience a level of dissociation as a result of c-ptsd.. but my son has either OSDD or DID.. we’re trying to figure it all out. It’s hard to wrap one’s head around. But having done IFS myself definitely helped with my understanding.

I used meth and other substances for almost 30 years. I now work in the mental health and addiction recovery field. (I'm just a transport driver) I stumbled across this song by accident. Was it an accident or His will? Either way it hit deep. Although the comical aspect of it does make one LOL, it's realness keeps you listening. I've never commented on a reaction site before, but I'd like to make a suggestion. Listen to it again without interruption and don't be afraid to move.

**LONG READ ALERT** How do I submit a formal request for you to create more content reacting to Ren/other musicians that talk about serious topics? Your reactions to the music that connects with many of us who are struggling but doing the work are really comforting, well-reasoned, and insightful. IDK why, but they're always quite insightful and somehow make us feel safe. I feel fairly certain that I'm one of many who feel this way. And.... Scene. That's what Ren's music does. It invites you into a community that creates, inspires, and encourages, not for any selfish reason, but for the sake of art. At the core of Ren's work is a beautiful collection of principles, kindness, love, health, and truth. The global supply of authentic social commentary through art is extremely low. Ren create a type of true art that many of us have never seen before; an artist who puts his whole being into his creation, then walks the streets of London with his heart on his sleeve and head up high. Rather than glorifying evil, he confronts it through his art. He describes it honestly, and shows us a picture of reality that we may not ponder as much as we should. He asks the questions that we all ask at some point in our lives; the questions that motivate us and terrify us. He lives his message. It inspires individuals in despair to stand up. Not give up. Create. Because so many depressed people are really just creatives that haven't found an outlet. Ren's history and the art he creates that tells it gives us hope, and he meets us on our level. He can reach us at our absolute lowest. So the RENegades are really not like a pop following in a sense. I don't think Ren is ever really going to sell out stadiums, but he is going to fill performing arts centers, auditoriums, art centers, and theaters all around the world. There is no demographic or generational tilt among his fanbase. I've seen young adolescents and octogenerians alike be inspired. That is a unifying force that the world has not seen for so long. It's what we need as a species.

Hello and welcome to the RENiverse, Dr. Danielle. First, you have no idea to apologise for how you react. Reactions are in the reactor's control, not the other way around. There are literally thousands out there, so if people don't like it, they can go somewhere else. Let me introduce you to... Ren Gill, he is a 34 year old Welsh native (Wales from the United Kingdom, specifically from the Island of Anglesey off the northwestern coast of Wales) and currently resides in Brighton, England (a southern English Channel beach town with an insanely active busking [live street performing] scene). He has been performing since he was 12 years old. He is entirely self-trained. He speaks native Welsh, English, French, and I do believe a bit of Italian, IIRC? He is exceptional at the guitar, piano, and vocalisation. He is a totally independent artist who has no record label to represent him or, more importantly, control him. He is a rapper, a multi-instrumentalist, a producer, a singer-songwriter, a composer, and truly the definition of genre-less. He can do any genre, produce any sound or beat, and he can do it all for nothing. No song is like another, no beat is the same, no way to judge anything based on what each song is. Again, it must be repeated: he is SELF-trained and has never had formal training for his music or productions. Everything Ren does is intentional. Every aspect of every piece is thoroughly scrutinized, studied, considered, composed, and dismantled before anything comes out and that perfection comes through during recording or filming. He is a Master of live one takes and his team is one of the best in the world, despite how small, even tiny or non-existent, his budgets are. Almost all the money he makes either goes to his ongoing Lyme Disease treatments (of which his medications cost literally thousands of quids) or to the projects he has in mind. I will state that Ren is not religious. He is spiritually agnostic, though does come from a Catholic background. He considers religion important to at least acknowledge and utilise as part of his imagery because of its representation within humanity. At the age of 19, he contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite he received while on a trip with his friends. He was misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led to severe psychosis, for several years until he was properly diagnosed by a Swiss physician. Due to not receiving the appropriate treatment for Lyme Disease within the very short time frame after contraction, the disease has ravaged his body and mind, causing permanent brain damage, severe issues with digestion, sleep, nerves, and various other health problems. It caused him horrendous, chronic, violent pain to the point of being bedridden for years. Music is the reason he has survived. I'd like to provide some cultural context for this artist from another extremely talented artist: This is what the Irish folk rock artist Sinead O’Connor posted on social media after watching Hi Ren: “Holy motherfuckin SHIT! Someone just showed me this at the weekend. This Archangel from like, twelfth heaven or somewhere, has only gone and made the entire history of songwriting and performing look like a three year old's birthday party at Burger King. Every song and or artist in history even Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, NWA, Ice Cube, and even Bob Dylan, is officially relegated to class B. As are every actor in history or legend: living or dead, male or female. We all are now defunct." Posted on May 17th, 2023, 2 months before self-deletion in July 2023. I recommend watching Sick Boi, Troubles, and the 'Chapters' from his RenMakesStuff (BTS channel for Ren) for a much deeper comprehension of his journey. Hi Ren was recorded live in the basement of an apartment building in Brighton, England. It was literally a crew of five people, cost 50 quid (~$62) to make, and the audio is entirely one take. The video is spliced across four one takes. It is recorded live with a lavalier lapel microphone, a portable guitar amp and recording device, three cameras, and Ren's laptop. He rehearsed this piece literally thousands of times before he even recorded the music video to provide certainty that he would get the guitar notes perfectly and his delivery as perfect as possible. This piece is a very personal one for Ren and was the first time in his musicianship to properly acknowledge his ailment, his journey, and his issues musically. He has hinted at it in all of his previous works prior to it, but this was the first time it was out in the open, purposefully. The 'Pig' from the beginning is an essential symbol in the RENiverse and appears in many, if not most, of his other music videos and media. It represents the corrupted and abused systems of the world that take and take and take and never give back to the people they are supposed to support: medicine, music, finances, trade, commerce, government, etc… There are actually four characters in this piece: the yodeller at the beginning and end (representing a call to aspirations), optimism (the calm and soft one on the 'right'), doubt (the 'evil' one on the 'left'), and hope (the one in the 'centre' near the end of the piece). The written poetry at the end of the piece is a very simplified summary of his real journey and represents his most primary belief system. Hi Ren is a continuation of Sick Boi, which is recorded live (though not a one take) in the same basement a few weeks prior to Hi Ren. It was also produced for practically no money and it represents his feelings on commoditization, greed, the healthcare industry, and the music industry in a generalised yet very specific manner. Have fun! Welcome to the RENegades and the RENiverse. Much peace and love to you. ^^ <3

This was definitely one of the best reaction videos I've seen and I've watched a lot of them. Everyone does them differently and I'm very happy that you paused to give your take on the scenes and since you went into no knowing who he was or what he's suffered from and still suffers from, it was a great unbiased take on this song. Which is brilliant and pure art as well. I had wondered if he had ACT therapy as well. Thanks again!

CBD therapy. Maybe self struggle, resentment and regrowth. With some forced religious ideology that left scars. Where you first see hope or God/ guidance as a fear mongerer rather than a foundation to build life off of in a healthy way. With because of mental trauma/illness or physical ailment and probably a deep seeded need to keep one happy. Maybe not even him. A mum perhaps. I love it though. Really envokes emotions and replayability, where many of us may not have consistently. Especially during critical times in our development.

Good work Dr. Good insights by you. The rewind thing is a 'Thing', but i wouldn't worry too much about it. The insights you offer are valuable and the stopping and starting is to be expected in a 'reaction' vid such as this.
