I was very surprised with huge response to my video. I didn’t expect it at all. I can’t reply to each comment individually but I did want to acknowledge your comments and respond to a couple of points. Firstly, Thank you to everyone who has been welcoming and supportive and to those of you who have provided more info about Ren. I have actually watched a lot of his interviews since filming my reaction, so I know more about his history now. I really value his work, both as a psychologist and someone who suffers from chronic health problems. I had ME/CFS for 12 years (the condition Ren was misdiagnosed with) and spent a lot of time unable to do things, in pain, taking 90 tablets a day, using a wheelchair or being dismissed by doctors. I’m now currently recovering from an 8 month flare of recurrent pericarditis, which is why I haven’t been on social media for a while. I think it’s great that Ren’s sharing his experiences and I hope that he finds some relief soon from his current flare. There were some issues raised in the comments. First, with me pausing to talk too frequently or being too analytical. My apologies for that. I was primarily making the video for my client, who specifically asked me to stop at regular intervals to record my emotional reaction or psychological understanding. I was doing my best to meet this request. I generally prefer to sit back and listen to someone’s story fully before responding or offering tentative thoughts. It sounds like most of you would also prefer that approach if I make another video. Also, apologies for not rewinding slightly after pausing the video. I didn’t realise that was a reaction video rule. It was my first one. I’m still relatively new to KZbin and have a lot to learn! Finally l thanks to everyone who provided recommendations of other songs to listen to. I appreciate it.

Don't worry about the pausing. Ren's stuff is often so layered and complex that you cannot retain all of your thoughts on the song the first time through unless you pause. And for other artists, it may be required to prevent copyright issues. Ren's team does not strike reactors, but there is a third-party company that will occasionally strike o demonetize his videos. If you dispute it, his team will see it and whitelist you. There is a direct email address that I am sure someone in the comments can provide you as well.

I wish your health problems will become better. From personal experience I know that a body that doesn't function as expected can lead to dark places. The anxiety if it will become better or worse tomorrow is hard, that's why a line from another Ren song (Chalk Outlines) hit me like a truck : "It's such a perfect day. Take it just in case, take it just in case. I'm scared of being okay. 'Cause all things change, all things change" Another youtube trick if you want to engage with the audience : I've seen that when the creator of the video likes a post, the post gets a hearth or something to show that the creator appreciated the comment. I think people who gets a like from the creator will feel empowered/noticed. But of course it's not mandatory. I think America have a very good saying if I interpret it correctly is "you do you". I wish my language, Norwegian, had a such a short and beautiful phrase. Don't worry so much about how to do reaction videos, because your insight was very valuable and I went away with better understanding and knowledge after it. It's your first and you picked a very challenging one, published it and as of now over 1600 people was affected positively enough to give a thumbs up. Kudoz!

I'm AuDHD, which is probably why I don't have a problem with your speech pacing - I actually click away from those who take too freakin long to get through a sentence or talk in this really slow, measured pace as if they're doing an ASMR video (I really hate those, too - they make my skin crawl). I also enjoyed the analytical part - If i'm watching a psychologist, i want to hear expertise, not just another person's opinion. as for the rewinding, i HATE that! it's very mentally disruptive. if that's a rule, they should change it.

I find that I disagree with most psychologists reacting to this video. That actually terrifies me. I knew, the instant I heard this song, exactly what he was saying, portraying; I knew about the pendulum, the clumsy footsteps, relaxing, the dance...the dance...the dance...the dance. Just knowing it will always "BRB!" is heavy enough on its own, let alone the dismal, dank, and soul - sucking symptoms that ravage your very existence

Ren is an incredible artist. He was misdiagnosed with psychiatric problems at a young age. He actually had Lyme disease. He has suffered for over a decade with severe health issues, anxiety, depression and PTSD. He also went through stress induced psychosis due to being so ill and ignored by the medical community. He has recently relapsed and suffering greatly. He has a great community. I hope you listen to more of his music. Chalk Outlines is beautiful

Ren has Lyme disease but was wrongly diagnosed for years. Wrong meds and misplaced therapy played havoc with his physical and mental health until he was correctly diagnosed. He is still in and out of treatment for his issues. As a hardcore Ren fan I can honestly say I have never been disappointed by one of his songs. I'm a 53 year old dude and he is by far the most important artist I have ever experienced.

Hi from the RENegades! Thanks for the reaction. To take this a step further, note that this is a live one take. He is actually performing this in time. They shot it four times over about 35 minutes. To me, that makes it just that much better. This guy is a true genius. He is that which cannot be described with words.

Whilst he is indeed performing this live the video you see is a composite of those multiple takes plus additional hand held footage. The audio however is from one of those takes.

@ I should say a one take with a *. It is multiple cameras set on a tripods edited together, but it’s still a live one take up until the handheld is brought it. From then, it’s a composite of the live with other takes. Most people don’t know photography well to try to explain all of this, so I just say one take. But I can see you understand photography.

@ I do indeed understand photography. I am a visual specialist. Which is why my eyes see the changes early in the piece where they use different takes (not just camera angles) to cobble together the video. Ren himself says it is spliced from the four takes PLUS the additional hand held footage. Personally I don’t see the fact that it is not one take (the audio is however) in any way diminishes the song but for me it does diminish his actual one takes to call it a one take.

Ren was failed by the medical community from the age of 19 for 13 years and misdiagnosed for many years. He was medicated wrongly causing depression and his psychosis. Ren has Lyme disease and has found some help in stem cell therapy although currently battling with a relapse of symptamology. Rens redemptive therapy is his music and I for one am thankful for that. Check out Ren and Chinchilla ‘Chalk Outlines’. A harsh but very realistic reflection of dealing with psychiatric medications.

I recommended it to my therapist last week, because it's helped me an awful lot..... Having only discovered this song myself a month or two ago, I'm one of the newer Ren-egades. From my knowledge, he caught Lyme's Disease, but was tested and treated for all kinds of mental health issues - at one point he was bed-bound 23 hours a day... The song that explains his backstory best is (I believe) called Sick Boi - I've not had the... ability to face it yet. This song alone left me crying for hours on end, and now I watch every reaction to it I can find. And with regards to the religious part - As far as I understand, he's not religious, but fascinated by religious imagery.
@JeremyMckay-b7k
@JeremyMckay-b7k Ай бұрын
I think he is religious, a Deist. He basically says that the fact we cannot rid ourselves of pain means if we are to be freed it has to be by a hand not our own. In “Dear God” he asks God to give him a sign to let Ren know God exists. He clearly really wants to believe. He wants to have Hope, with a capital H. And Hope is God.

0:56 Oh, but Doctor, it is a reflection on his feelings about the Medical Community. Being misdiagnosed for ten years hasn't been good for him. However, British medicine didn't have many cases of Lyme disease at that time. What is amazing about Ren’s story is his drive to tell it with such incredible insight and brilliance.

Very well, it apesrs that I aa making the first comment. Welcome to a new artist who has a great deal to say. Reactors are ofetn under pressure, for copyright reasons, to interrupt the video frequently. This varies by artist and, the last I heard, Ren welcomes full length plays and has reached out to many reactors with offers of interviews. i am a retired LCSW so we have some language in common. I have inferred that, by history, Ren was an ADHD kid. I know that he had trouble in school. He also has struggled with mood issues. More germane, from my point of view, is that he has had Lyme Disease since his mid to late teens, which was utterly misdaignosed and mismanaged by the NHS. He essentially lost his twenties until he found an infectious disease doctor in Belgium who diagnosed the Lyme, staterd his treatment, and helped him onto the road to medical improvement. He had been better for a couple of years but recently relapsed and is being retreated in Canada. As a psychologist, it is importatnt for you to recognize that Lyme is a multi-system illness that can often manifest in psychiatric symptoms, including psychosis. It is a stigmatized illness and thus its sufferers are also stigmatized bt the medical industry. As a mental health professional, you can help raise awareness.

Hi there, Dr. Crane! Thank you for your thoughtful reaction to Hi, Ren, and thank your client for suggesting it! Largely speaking, you can divide most, but not all, of Ren's music into one of three categories. "Hi Ren" is in fact most people's introduction to him and a great leap into the first category, his songs that are about mental health. Here, you'll find tracks dealing with his personal struggles and relationship with the medical industry. In this category, "Sick Boi" is somewhat considered a spiritual follow-up to Hi Ren, and "Chalk Outlines" with Chinchilla is a wonderful commentary on the state of "medication daze" some regimes can put you into. This category also includes some amazing examinations of grief and coping with loss. The suicide of his closest friend was just as formative for him as his Lyme disease. Songs that address this include "How to Be Me" (again with the incredible Chinchilla), "Su!cide" and "For Joe." If listening to For Joe, I recommend preceding them with his earlier songs "Freckled Angels" and "Dominoes" Dominoes does diverge from the grief theme, and can more be considered part of the second set of songs, but musical themes from it are used in For Joe. As someone who has been through long term physical health struggles yourself, I also recommend "Crutch" with Bibi, which is about trying to find strength in the relationships around you while dealing with such things. Warning for it being very sad, though. The second major category of Ren's music is socio-political commentary. He's got a staunch anti-capitalist streak, which you'll get a good feel for in the "Money Game" trilogy (Part 3 is considered some of his best work almost universally), as well as in the later "Money Ties". The aforementioned Dominoes is a scathing critique of the fashion and beauty industries and the psychological damage they can cause. Also in the social commentary category is his "Tales of Jenny and Screech" trilogy, which should be viewed together in one sitting. They're presented in what his fans have labeled the "bardcore" style, in which he acts like a classical minstrel narrating a three part story, occasionally adopting the voices of the characters within it. It's really hard to describe the themes without spoiling something you should experience for yourself. The final category of Ren's music is things he either simply did for his own fun/amusement, or things he intended to be positive/uplifting. There's a lot of diversity here, and sometimes overlap between the two. Good examples of this category include "Power," an anthem about findign personal strength in difficult circumstances, "What You Want", a clear homage to the old-school 80s and 90s hip hop scene he grew up on, especially the Beastie Boys, and his mashup "Back On 74/Message In a Bottle", which is probably the BEST vocal performance you will ever hear from the man. Also included in this category, on the "amusing himself" side of things are his various 'retake' releases, which are all existing songs he decided to remix, play with, and write a rap over. Losing It and Bittersweet Symphony are my personal favorites here. This is not at all a comprehensive guide to Ren's music, but it should provide a strong starting point if you decide to examine him further. I hope it's helpful!

**LONG READ ALERT** How do I submit a formal request for you to create more content reacting to Ren/other musicians that talk about serious topics? Your reactions to the music that connects with many of us who are struggling but doing the work are really comforting, well-reasoned, and insightful. IDK why, but they're always quite insightful and somehow make us feel safe. I feel fairly certain that I'm one of many who feel this way. And.... Scene. That's what Ren's music does. It invites you into a community that creates, inspires, and encourages, not for any selfish reason, but for the sake of art. At the core of Ren's work is a beautiful collection of principles, kindness, love, health, and truth. The global supply of authentic social commentary through art is extremely low. Ren create a type of true art that many of us have never seen before; an artist who puts his whole being into his creation, then walks the streets of London with his heart on his sleeve and head up high. Rather than glorifying evil, he confronts it through his art. He describes it honestly, and shows us a picture of reality that we may not ponder as much as we should. He asks the questions that we all ask at some point in our lives; the questions that motivate us and terrify us. He lives his message. It inspires individuals in despair to stand up. Not give up. Create. Because so many depressed people are really just creatives that haven't found an outlet. Ren's history and the art he creates that tells it gives us hope, and he meets us on our level. He can reach us at our absolute lowest. So the RENegades are really not like a pop following in a sense. I don't think Ren is ever really going to sell out stadiums, but he is going to fill performing arts centers, auditoriums, art centers, and theaters all around the world. There is no demographic or generational tilt among his fanbase. I've seen young adolescents and octogenerians alike be inspired. That is a unifying force that the world has not seen for so long. It's what we need as a species.

Ren has a hardcore following, and without a doubt, you'll receive both positive and negative feedback. Ren, is this centurys Shakespeare. A singer, a rapper. An actor, a storyteller. Especially when you listen to the tales of jenny & screech and violets tale, you'll recognise that bard like storytelling and guitar intros.

Welcome aboard the Ren ride into the rabbit hole. The lad is incredible. Unlike any other artist I've encounter in my 53 years. As you know by now Renegades are also an incredible bunch, they are so amazing and supportive. But if there is one thing that will trigger them into action... It's talking over Rens Lyrics. Lol He packs so much meaning into each line that mission a single bar means that you missed and essential key pillar to the full context. You'll enjoy the rest of the ride, the deeper you go the more you'll like this kid. Some stuff will make you cry and some stuff is just plain fun. I do recommend asking the renegades which specific versions to react to as with some songs ie Chalk Outlines there is a preferred version to react to with Chalk OutLines it's the (LIVE) version or with Money Game 2 it's the (Official Lyric Video). But your channel will benefit greatly from Ren reactions. This man will be studied for years to come as his ability to connect and to give and audience goosebumps is unmatched. Great Analysis and reaction. Two additional things I would recommend as someone who has dealt with the medical profession on and have also felt the sting of way too often. 1st. I would hope that you give this song another listen with complete focus. 2nd. Having been given the most ridiculous diagnosis to what later turned out to be toxic mold exposure which is also an autoimmune condition similar to Lyme Disease which Ren suffers with. I can say this about my experience. Watching your reaction felt very much like my interactions with doctor's. They were much more concerned and focusing on getting me to acknowledge their "expert analysis on what little information they had at the moment then they were in shutting up and listening to what all was actually going on in terms of symptoms and focusing on what I was experiencing. I'm not judging you based on my experience, I bring it up in hopes that it might help inspire you to listen more and think less while patients are speaking. there's plenty of time for diagnosis and treatment. Also in the case of Ren's music and the reactions of renegades, we are all aware of the genius you're experiencing. As you go deeper into the Ren rabbit hole you'll understand. This lads ability to explain and put into words to perfectly embody and summarize a shared experience with such care and elegance is unmatched.

When I heard this song for the first time, I remember sitting back and thinking: "This isn't a song. This is art in its purest form." I still hold that this is perhaps the most intimate and textbook examples of art. He took his personal demons and literally put them through the pen and stole the power from them to empower himself. I think it resonates with people because all of us WISH could do that with our own issues. Many people spend their entire lives looking for outlets and never find them, so seeing Ren be able to do it is inspiring because we realize it's still possible to do it. It also encourages others to actually seek professional help, further reducing the stigma around mental health issues.

Ren has seriously blown up in the past 2 weeks and I think its because of the Slaughter House video. He released it 13 days ago and it set people off. That is actually hugely fun to dissect, between the lyrics and the visuals, there is so much meaning to it. Its incredible. I just heard him last week and I'm obsessed. I'm pretty sure my cat even likes him. Also, I took his two person dialogue with himself as his dark side talking to his bright side. Like the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.

Your commentary is spot on, Danielle. My suggestion is that when you stop to speak, you can then quickly reverse 5 seconds with the left arrow key. You can correspondingly move forward 5 seconds with the right arrow key. The comma and period will do the same thing but 1 frame at a time. Ocassionally, back up 5 seconds since there are key lines you may miss as a result. Regardless, we need to hear more reactions from YOU!

Lovely to see someone new on Ren train 👌 Actually, Ren does not suffer from schizophrenia, the song is more about "inner critique" or the darker aspect of every person. Ren was misdiagnosed with Lyme disease for 8 years, which probably caused all the mental problems as well, as his body was literally falling apart and he spent most of his days in bed, he was misdiagnosed as bipolar, chronic fatigue syndrome and finally ended up with MCAS and chronic lyme caused brain damage and many other health problems, he managed to recover much of his health after stem cell treatment, but he recently had a relapse of Lyme disease and Bartonella co-infections. It's a lot and I'm sure the other Renegades will tell you more when they find you. what will definitely happen😅 But yes, Ren suffered immensely due to years of poor diagnosis, both physically and mentally, and at one point fell into stress induce psychosis for several months because of poor treatment, so part of your interpretation would fit. Anyway, I put a sub, and I looking forward to another reaction to Ren. It really has a lot to offer. For some mental health related I recommend Sick Boi, Suic*de, For Joe, Chalk outlines live version and How to be me also for something related overall to his story - Troubles. 👌

If you are truly interested in his story. He created and posted 8 Chapter videos of about 20 minutes each covering the 8 years from 19 to 26 that he spent mostly bedridden with undiagnosed Lyme disease. After so long, much damage was done to his brain,organs,neurological systems and immunity. Stem cells brought him back, but even after 18 months if treatment in Canada dud not rid him if the bacteria. Through all of this musuc was his real therapy. He is extremely intelligent, empathic and a self taught musical genius . He had many forms of physical and mental therapy, but he was ever walking an edge with his mental health even as a young child. He tells if banishing the vouce in his head when he was 9 yrs old. He dedicates himself to being a voice for the voiceless of those made invisible by chronic mental and physical illness. He's a warrior, and genius artist. Musician, singer. Raporr director and actor. Plys he is transparent, authentic ethical and kind. Plus he's a cheeky bugger. He also has a luve stream from last week posted on Renmakesstuff channel regarding his current situation,health,spiritual dtand,stand, social change catalyst. I subbed for mor Ren. Sick Boi should be next..

Most incredible yet sad bit about this masterpiece is its 40M views.. 40M people relating to this. Then open the comments and it’s 70 year olds, 50 year olds, 20 year olds. He gives strength and drive to 40m people, but sometimes can’t find it himself and even in a recent comment called himself a fraud, for being what he taught us to be, just human. I think Ren is the mirror in which a lot of people see the strength and resilience of humanity. It’s not one person, it’s us, we can achieve incredible things.

Welcome to the multitalented genius Ren! ❤️ This masterpiece is just the tip of the iceberg. Ren is a relatable voice for everyone dancing in the darkness as he eloquently, with all the authenticity of someone who is painfully familiar with it, lets us know that we are not alone and inspires us to keep dancing. And in doing so, Ren has literally saved lives with his art. Other Renegades will probably recommend songs like Sick Boi and Troubles for insight into his story with illness and years of misdiagnosis. I will just add a suggestion to check out one of my personal favourites that doesn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserves: Crutch feat. Bibi. It’s an older song from before Ren was finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease and was written after a breakdown following multiple emergency trips to the hospital. A little help to guide you on your journey: - For the trilogy of tales, react to the 13 minute video “The Tale of Jenny and Screech”. It contains all 3 in the correct order. - Check out the following in order of release: Freckled Angels -> Suic!de -> For Joe. It makes the last performance even more special. - Watch the 35 minute video explaining why Sick Boi is down for context before checking out Kujo Beat Down. - When you get to the Money Game trilogy, watch the lyric video for part 2. Also if you want to understand the man behind the art (and why we all love him so dearly), check out his 1m subscribers video on defining success. Hope to see you deep down the Ren rabbit hole with the rest of us 🐰🕳️🖤

I'm 62 and have lived with depression and other problems all of my life and 20 years ago i had that rope around my neck luckily for me i was interrupted. Back when i was a kid you kept the fact that you had voices in your head to yourself in fear of what might happen to you so after my breakdown my saviour was realising that i don't have to hide and talking about my problems saved me so too anyone out there struggling I'd say get the courage to talk to someone the feeling of relief is just amazing and that big black hole will get much smaller very quickly and you can live a full happy life 😊

Welcome to the world of Ren, you're in for a bit of a ride, there are a few songs he's written in regards to his illness, sick boi is probably the most explanatory one if you want to look at that and get more of an insight into what he's been going through. For me that first voice is in us all, everyone has it to a degree, for some its more prominent and harsh, others its softer and less obstructive. I think it's also needed to an extent, the self critical aspect, telling us when we are reaching too far and helping to look at things in a realistic light, but it can be overwhelming and harmful. I think thats where learning to soften and learning to understand that voice comes in. I enjoyed your insights into it, thanks for taking the time to share with us.

1:04 the answer is both physical and mental health related. Ren experienced severe symptoms from undiagnosed Lyme disease, that left him unable to get out of bed at times and he also experienced psychosis etc. He was misdiagnosed and wrongly medicated until he finally stumbled on the truth and sought proper treatment
@Codex7777
@Codex7777 Ай бұрын
Excluding his adhd, the answer isn't "both". All his more serious mental health conditions were almost entirely a result of his midiagnosis and the powerful psychotropic drugs they placed him on. They also caused a severe autoimmune response, which made his real conditions much worse, eventually contributing to his psychotic break. Luckily a real health care professional, an infectious diseases specialist, eventually correctly diagnosed him but Ren had to find him and pay him off his own back. Correct treatment got rid of the psychosis within weeks and his other symptoms improved significantly If Ren hadn't searched for answers himself, if he'd been left under the care of mental health "professionals", he'd almost certainly be dead by now. Ren himself has said as much. Btw, Ren doesn't just have Lyme's disease. He also has bartonella, MCAS, neuropathy and severe autoimmunity, as well as a host of other conditions. Thanks to the misdiagnosis of mental health "professionals" he has permanent damage to his body and brain and remains in constant 24hr pain. Over the course of his illness and mistreatment, he's also developed ptsd, chronic depression and anxiety, with regular panic attacks. None of which he had before his misdiagnosis and mistreatment.

As I see you've already had many comments giving you the Ren story and background, I won't bother repeating it. But as to the topics you were covering at the end of the video, I just wanted to echo that how Ren says this 'dance with the darkness within' is basically what it means to be human, and how you say accepting reality and that there will be suffering in life, it sure resonates with me. The TLDR is, I was in an abusive relationship/marriage for a decade that nearly destroyed me, but I went through years of therapy to move beyond that. And the tools I learned in therapy have been invaluable going forward in life; in Sept 2023 my father suddenly and unexpectedly passed. I thought I'd been through hardships before in life, but nothing had prepared me for that. It's still a process my sister and I are moving through (together, well as much as possible given her and I live in two different countries...), and I can say without a doubt, if I didn't have the tools I had acquired from therapy, I wouldn't have made it through the last year. And like Ren says, I know that I'll prosper simply because I'm still standing (well sitting at the moment...) here today :) This video is so popular because, I'm sure that almost any human being who watches it can connect to it personally in some way.

Welcome to the deep, deep rabbit hole that is Ren. Don't worry about pausing "too often" during your reactions. Personally, I find it more interesting to hear what insights someone may have to a particular lyric or effect the video may have on them right then, rather than watching someone just sit there and watch the whole thing and then comment. And after having watched maybe a hundred or more reactions to "Hi Ren", I have learned a lot. As for future reactions (from a Psychologist's POV) to Ren videos, I would recommend "Sick Boi", "Suicide", "Chalk Outlines" and "How To Be Me". All amazing songs, and the last two are actually collaborations with another artist by the name of Chinchilla. Finally, just for your own enjoyment, you really should watch the trilogy video "The Tales of Jenny and Screech". Like, "Hi Ren", it is a masterpiece.
