It brings me to tears every time I see it. I was at a park in North Carolina with my children at the time when we heard it on the radio.

I worked at a hospital in Pennsylvania at that time. We were considered in range to accept victims and were on standby. Those victims never came. I also remember very tall buildings in the area were closed and evacuated. We just didn’t know at the time what was going to be hit next-hospitals, bridges, airports, etc., were all considered possible targets.

I am so happy that you took the recommendation to watch this. Gander or the Yellow Ribbon is such an unknown event in such a tragic one. And you’re right. It is a great show of humanity that you will not see again.

So proud to be Canadian🇨🇦 I live on the far west coast of Canada so as far away from Gander as possible in Canada but what you have to realize is that planes coming from the West - Asia, Australia etc. were also undergoing the same restrictions and landing in Vancouver BC and into the prairies as they couldn't enter US airspace either. I know that most Americans are not aware of this whole story but we were proud to help our neighbours!!! May it never be necessary again terrorism must never win.

I was in the 5th grade and watched it live. Saw people jump out of the towers to their deaths. My kids' godfather was working in the Pentagon when it was attacked and my friend was in a building next to the Twin Towers when he worked for Dell. He doesn't talk about what he saw to this day. It was that harrowing in person.

This tragedy was something that impacted our memories forever. I remember exactly where i was when it was on tv. I was getting ready for school, came into the kitchen, and saw my mother in the living room, her body language showed she was sad/distressed. I looked up at the tv and saw the first tower on fire, clouds and dust making everything grey and brown. I couldn't understand it at first but my mother explained it to us on the way to school. When we got there, all the tvs were on and we saw the second tower get hit. I think i was in 5th grade.

Dude, that's what we DO in North (And South, Mexico and all the Middle American countries, and the rest of the Americas areas - the Caribbean, and Iceland, Samoa - etc.. America, we improvise! We "get 'er done" When we come together, we can do most anything. Hopefully, stop fascism in it's tracks (again) this time over here (USA) not over there in Europe.

I live under the direct flight path for Newark Airport and the outer for JFK and holding for Laguardia. The skies emptied. The only thing we saw th the sky for days were the military jets from McGuire AFB and Lakehurst National Guard. It was erie. My brother was a retired Air Force pilot working for an airline. They thought they might get back into the sky later that day and they had all the pilots gathered, my brother said it was about 100 pilots, and asked for volunteers to move jets as needed to get flights going. My brother and a handful of pilots who my brother knew had been ex-military were the only ones to raise a hand. The film was from the local news center.

Still wanna invade us my American relative's?? It is sad hiw many Americans have no idea where their citizens in the air during 9/11 went. Then the Canadian went to war with America against the taliban and Isis in Afghanistan and the U.S used Article Five of the NATO defense pact, it was the first time it was ever enacted. Just know my American relative's we love you but we will defend ourselves from a Trump invasion plan

Many people are under the misunderstanding that it was two buildings two planes, it was four planes the twin tower buildings plus the Pentagon plus the plane in shanksville that we believe was intended for the White House or somewhere in DC. ❤

I remember I was in 10th grade and all day all we did was watch this unfold. The thing that hit my young mind was watching the people jumping out of the building (40floors+) to escape the fire. That haunts me. Sadly i was still too young to join the military, but did when I got out of highschool. Watching this with you makes me cry all over again. Now you understand how 9/11 changed all the travel rules & screening now.

As I watch your viewing of this tragic day in our country, You asked why did I decide to watch this video? Well Its honestly a good choice to watch it. Its a choice to know history so that people can hopefully change the path if something like this ever comes about again. Our country was stronger because we came together.

My hair still stands on end watching the footage. I remember my teacher turned on the TV, all of us watching this in real time. It was definitely not a moment to forget. I also remember how all American's came together after that. Patriotism was at an all time high.

You are right about how many people don’t grasp the depth of this event. We tend to focus solely on the events of that day. Of course that’s important, but the long term effects of 9/11 are massive. I live in NY within driving distance of NYC. I can remember for years afterwards there were ads on TV from law groups offering assistance to people who were in Manhattan on that day - namely children. Sadly, there were many schools near those buildings and with all the debre in the air, years later many of those children ended up sick with things like cancer. The same happened to the first responders from all the chemicals they were breathing in after the twin towers exploded. The effects of that day were felt for years afterwards. If you want some more positive stories from that day, I agree with other comments recommending you look into the story in Newfoundland. I also suggest looking into the story of the guide dog who led her owner and his coworkers out of the Trade Center from the upper floor when they couldn’t find their way out from all the smoke.
