Head up Deeside it’s stunning what the volunteers do out the road there. They had an engine there “Salmon” I got to run on the footplate and a Lorna sausage butty off the coal shovel. Beauty is only as good as what came before.🏴✊

They have coal in a box at the rear..
@StokesTrainsКүн бұрын
As these two locos are not designed for travelling long distances, they have a small coal bunker at the back of the loco. These engines would’ve worked short branch lines, commuter trains or local goods trains - so they were always able to top up on coal when they needed to 🙂

What's the basis of that GWR locomotive number 1369?
@StokesTrains2 күн бұрын
It was built for shunting work in tight places - the short wheelbase meant it could navigate sharp curves. It spent the first part of its working life at the GWR works in Swindon, and then moved to the docks at Weymouth for shunting duties 🙂

The two locomotives never cease to fascinate me. I think they're great. I find the design of the boiler on the first locomotive interesting. You've done an excellent job.👍
@StokesTrains2 күн бұрын
Hello there Wolfgang! The locomotive at the front is a Pannier Tank - it has a normal boiler, the rectangular appearance is due to the fact that on this design the loco has water storage tanks at either side of the boiler. They were a very popular design with the Great Western Railway and were used extensively on both lighter freight and passenger trains, shunting, banking and station pilot duties. 😊
@wolfgangscheibe75682 күн бұрын
2807, a fantastic locomotive. I like the locomotive very much. Very nice shot👍
@StokesTrains2 күн бұрын
A real powerhouse this one. Another Great Western design, built for heavy freight work. Not designed to be at all fast (they were designed to pull a heavy train at an average 30mph), and were still in use at the end of steam, keeping up easily with more modern designs.
@wolfgangscheibe75682 күн бұрын
Very beautiful and powerful locomotive. The fantastic close-up allows you to see the details on the locomotive very well. Great shot 👍
