@opserc10475 awesome! Yeah this set is made of really dense wood. The older drums made of guayacan and granadillo are really heavy.. the skin on the conga was a bit ringy. Not sure what wood they are using today but you can always swap heads out if you don't like the sound. Construction is superb. Love them.

I just subscribed great explanation of how to look for the right Conga I am a newbie even Dow I love salsa so the recommendation is Palisades LP? With Water Buffalo skin to start techniques even Dow I have good ears on differential of sounds but your explanations of what to look for to know that you’re not making a mistake thinking you’re buying the perfect drum and you’re not checking for details depending of what you want to play a drum for, I love music and at my 67 yrs is something will entertain me we family gather in the house and yard thank you

Sounds great! Be aware that the 10” ‘beginner’ drums can, if equipped with good skin, get you close to this. Right now Meinl Headliners come with good skin. Nowhere near as good as what’s on this drum, but definitely suitable for gigging.
@Gk2003m
@Gk2003m 6 ай бұрын
My 10” is currently tuned to E, where your drum is at 3:40. You then bring it up to Bb - very impressive! Prior to that, at 3:00 it’s at Eb. Only a half-step lower. Back at the beginning, at 1:40, it’s tuned to B. At 1:58 it’s tuned to C. Your tumba is tuned to Gb below all those. My tumba sounds best tuned to F.

Yeah for sure! A good skin can make a big difference. I'd rather invest in a used good drum that a new entry level drum though. Makes more sense to me.
@Gk2003m

@@pcastag1 depends on your finances really. Back in the day I got a Meinl (made by Toca back then) 10” with stand for $69 new. Same wood as all the drums that came from Thailand, the so-called “SiamOak” found on the top-line LP Classic drums. Btw, that rubberwood is just fine for congas. I purchased a superb flat skin for it not long after (for about $30 back then), and mounted it…. the drum sounds great. Nowhere was a GonBops or Valje or any other good used drum available for anywhere near that price.

Thank you for knowing how to do a comparison! Tuning them as identically as possible, then playing. By moving along the play line I get a great feel for the sounds. Both sound awesome incidentally, which I attribute to the obviously well-practiced hands and ears of the host. Great job! The HR sound better IMO, but that’s a moot point as both sound wonderful. The specific difference I hear is the HR project their pitch a bit higher, while not having any more undesirable overtones.

A GOOD VIDEO AS PLASTIC SKINS WILL NEVER COME CLOSE TO THE REAL SOUNDS OF GONGAS. I STUPIDLY LEFT MY KIT IN A GARAGE DURING WINTER AND FORGOT TO LOOSEN THOSE SKINS. MY REQUINTO CRACKED IN 3 PLACES AND I BOUGHT ALL EVANS SKINS. ODDLY THE CONGA ONE HAS NEVER SEATED PROPERLY INTO THE RIM AND IT MAKES ME FURIOUS!!!

Hey brother, when I replace the buffalo with cow on a set of 3, the bigger the drum the thicker the skin, quinto being the thinest, conga thicker , tumba being the thickest. It seems like I lose that deep base on the tumba…..I’m I suppose to put the thinner on the tumba? It happened to a Palisade, I ended up putting buffalo back on, now it seems to have happened to a matador.

Manana bongos made in Budapest are the bongos that I'm interested in, if you would put them on reverb with some detail photos and a fair price, I might be interested in buying them. If you get a chance check out some of my videos I've been playing drums and bongos and timbales since the late 60s.
