"Extreme" is probably the only game that looks better and sounds okay on the Specy. Guessing these are all Specy 128k games because of the sound. But the C64 kills it for a computer unchanged since 1982. IMO a 7 Goals to 1 result. I had a 48k Specy.

The problem is the games are emulated and without interpolation, as in the CRT TV. It's better on a CRT or in a secam system TV. But for History, it's no price. 1987 is the beginning of lower production of games. two years later, 90% of those games will be bad, because they will attempt to make adaptations of arcade games made by machines far superior (CPS1 from Capcom or Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and eventhe powerful 2D Capcom CPS2!). The programmers and graphists are not to blame, but the producer or the editor, surely, because they have not given money to creativity, and because C64 is antique. The lack of 32 colours on C64 was a problem which was not one in my... Green small screen: the games were superb on it, because of that! And this period with one guy making alone a game distributed by an editor has ended. Exit Karateka or Beach Head!

Maybe I am mistaken, but it almost seems like this is comparing a PAL c64 to NTSC Atari? The C64 games seem to be running just a bit slower than I am used to (as PAL ran slower) but the Atari adaptations seem more NTSC speed. I'm not sure if there was a speed difference between NTSC and PAL Atari 8-bits, but it's just how it seems to me.

I got a ZX Spectrum 48k about 1985 and I was over the moon. My dad who had little money managed to surprise us with a 50 game cassette, wow it kept us going for years. Amazing how little dots on a screen made us think it was state of the art. He also got a cartridge called currah speech that worked with a selection of games, we had snooker and every now and again the spectrum would try to sound like a commentator lol Some of the games in your video have brought back some fantastic memories, commando, hypersports, dinamite dan, spy hunter. Just brilliant. We also had a game called fruit machine, that had me and my mate laughing our heads off trying to win the jackpot. Also, Bover Bear where you had to climb ladders and walk past a battery to drop it down to your car to make it to the next level, I remember getting all excited spending hours making it to level 3, being excited to see what the level was like only to accidentally pull the power cable out of the back of the spectrum while trying to get comfy, never seen that level to this day. Thanks for the video 😁👍

They both share their most important "quality": super crappy analog video output with noise, chroma bleed and jailbars. This is emulator material, but if you would have filmed the real deal on a CRT TV, it would have looked junk, in both cases. Fun thing is World of Spectrum has its emulator content on the website WITH jailbars and contrast edges. Glad there were computers back then that DID have proper video out, like the CPC 464, Beeb, MSX, P2000T, those still look top notch today, and were suitable to write code on for hours.

@retrononame24 күн бұрын
Did you see the ZX Spectrum Next? I own one (from second Kickstarter) and it's really a fantastic machine that I use a lot! Not exactly 48Gb, but it does have 1 or 2Mb of Ram with capabilities of 256 color graphics, hardware sprites, great sound, runs with 3.5, 7, 14 or 28Mhz, fully compatible with practically all Spectrum computers from the 80s (I used it a lot to play 48k/128k games)... It's really what Sinclair (or Amstrad) should have done in the late 80s in order to stay relevant and compete with Amigas and (later) VGA PCs. And no, I'm not sponsored by the guys who made it ;) It's just a great machine and if there is a another Kickstarter, I can't recommend it enough (I will get another one as backup for sure!) :)
