For promotions I would focus on just the basics of pigeon keeping first. If you can get people to just have pigeons as a hobby and train them on there own for enjoyment you may get more people involved. Racing is a whole new animal in commitment and expense. The reasons pigeon racing has become less popular is because of expense and club rules governed by the money people in each club. Here in America a lot of clubs want you to pay for all the races you don't have any pigeons in the race. You pay for everything up front. It used to be pay as you go. Clubs are all about money too much that it dominates everything and takes the fun and fellowship feeling all out of it. As a beginner I quit a club because my birds won the race and the club never put a seal on my punch clock type clock everyone used at the time and I never checked it. As a beginner you may not remember all the rules or notice the club didn't do there job sealing your clock in every race. The rules seam to increase every year. I quit another club because a flyer winning a lot in that club someone came in his loft at night and they killed most of his birds and others were stolen which wiped him out for the year for YB racing. Pretty sad how things are getting. When prices go up so much hobbies like pigeons is hard to take on. It used to be a lot easier to afford pigeons now it's too expensive for me. Feed, wood, housing and equipment have gone through the roof from what it once was for affordability. As a beginner or hobbyist your birds are very healthy and as soon as you start racing suddenly you have all these health issues from other peoples birds and as a beginner it came be quit over powering and even devastating to deal with. These are some of the reasons why pigeon racing has gone down.

Don't get yourself too down, Dan, young bird racing is full of disappointments, it's only once the season is over and you have the survivors to bring through, that you can assess your season. That missing bird could have hit a wire, been shot etc, so many unknowns, they're racing pigeons and the only way they can race is if you send them. They don't win you anything sitting in the shed.

So 1980s 😂 In the 80s I was timing in on an STB and still setting and reading Toulet clocks with circular paper disks and pin holes! Missed your videoos mate, sadly this would have been the day Dad and I could have come to visit you, but Mum was just out of hospital and still very poorly. Do you have any of the Callaghan YBs left Dan?
@howtotrainyourpigeon15 күн бұрын
@@johncallaghan8854 sorry to hear that but pleased to hear your mum is back home. Yes still got about half. I still had 11/12 when I went on holiday then the first race back seemed to hit them the hardest. No rhyme or reason. It was their last race today so I'll do a video on what I have left from this year.

Glad you've still got some left mate, tough day to lose so many in one race, but that's YB racing for ya. No rhyme or reason like you say. Hopefully they'll do well for you next year Dan

Build a floor system with a wire floor, I made a floor with plywood and 2ft at the back of the loft floor is wire which is great ventilation

Hi from NZ I love your videos. I had pigeons for over 40 years but had to give up recently due to serious lung damage. In 1989 I had acute symptoms or hyper sensitive pneumonitis from the avi protein wore the best mask and protective clothing but in the end it was not good enough. It sounds like you are allergic as well. I miss my racing pigeons very much.

When you get rid of that loft can I buy it? I’m looking to start but the loft is the issue and what’s holding me back
@howtotrainyourpigeon15 күн бұрын
@@MFDyea unfortunately the way it was built means it won't come apart in sections. You'd do better to buy a second hand 'proper' loft. Lots about this time of year on marketplace and eBay

hi im Stephen and i love watching ur show u said u might build another loft if u r, think about wen ur cleanin if u build d loft up 5-6 feet up of d ground may be u can hav a hole cut out in d corner and a bin/bucket underneath the loft so u scrape /brush into said hole 🕳 and it would make things a little bit easyer wen cleaning comes along something to think about happy flyin i had birds a few times while i was growin up the birds like high lofts as well be good.

I have a few friends with chronic lung issues due to pigeons. The condition is nicknamed "pigeon lung" (can't remember the actual medical term). I always wear a respirator when I'm cleaning my loft.

I've tried both iPigeon and Benzing. Give Benzing 5 stars. At the location I had the iPigeon cell service wasn't great and I'd give it a 1 star. Maybe better for others...but it also missed timing a lot of pigeons. Never a problem with Benzing. Loved the video!!
