Get yourself a hog scraper they are probably 4 foot long, stops the bending over scraping your doing

I don't like v perches, I use flat perches mostly due to the pigeons ability to "lay down", on them getting full rest that way

You need way, more air flow in your loft. Bring in air at floor level, get rid of air at the ceiling, creating a constant turn over of air in the loft, eliminating respiratory issues

I can always remember going with my Granda to Blackpool Show. My granda had a bit of money and bought 3 janssen pigeons from Belgium. They were put straight into the stock loft. Well 2 of them Hen and cock to breed of. Done extremely well for my granda.

How the technology has changed over the years is incredible. With birds being timeed by landing on the landing board at the loft trap. Back when I watched my grandad and dad it was once the bird trapped, You had to get into the loft as quickly as possible and take the rubber ring of the pigeon and into the shuttle and into the clock . Clocks taken to club and read for best time , rubber rings verified from when they were put on the pigeon on a Friday night to show that the pigeon you timed in had the same rubber ring that was put on on the Friday. I’ve probably complicated the way it used to be with that explanation but hey ho.

From around the age of 8yrs old (30yrs ago) I used to love watching on a Saturday the birds coming home at my grandad’s. Then around 15,16yrs old if memory serves me right my dad started racing and I got more involved. Unfortunately my dad took ill and due to the illness the pigeons weren’t recommended for him to keep. I took over for a couple years. Had a Penzance 5th and Skibbereen 4th in the club and that was more or less best it got. Can’t remember the combine results. After this it was 5th,6,7,8th positions within the club almost every other week. The big racers sending double the amount and got to be said “better pigeons” did drain me at that young age and eventually out of the sport. Some unbelievable pigeon racers in Northern Ireland. But like you said, unfortunately it is in decline all over the UK but I hope with videos like yours that the sport gets back to where it once was.

You don't need pure bloodlines. 90% of mine are crossbreds and are more then capable. Papers/pedigrees makes money, crossbreds win races. They need a good build and a good head on them shoulders.

good management mate only treating what needs treating 👍my best pigeons were always my tamest ones (a much closer bond just gets that extra yard out of them ) good loft visit.

I wonder whether they're the most tame because they've won and the ones that don't win don't get handled as regularly? That's the case in my loft anyway. I might have to give the underachievers the odd pat on the back from now on 😂

Looks like that hen might be a charcoal color, the birds look beautiful. I especially liked his blacks and the story about the crows , they so nice with the black color and the wattle being so white. I can’t race here where I’m at to many hawks.
