thing is most of these people either work in the mining industry or cattle station owners, they have more than enough to rebuild etc they are not the true aussie battlers doing times tough. i do feel sorry that they lost their personal belongings like photos and things that can not be replaced.

This fact is woefully under-celebrated. We are home to a civilization that predates Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Imperial Rome, even the lost Indus Valley people. The world's longest lived culture is a hunter-gatherer, semi nomadic nation of disparate tribes. It is the world's most sustainable culture. It already existed and thrived for tens of thousands of years before all of the cultures I mentioned. It's older than humanity's relationship with domesticated animals. They have sacred songs passed down from generation to generation that describe hunting areas from before the end of the last ice age which are now under 50m of water. It is a culture that is three times older than the great barrier reef! And we think a culture that has been atrophying for 200 years knows better. 6th generation aussie white fella on Djabugay land in the Yidinji nation here. Don't hate it, celebrate it.

Watching you light that fire with a plastic water jug, including the time of day, and the fuel you used, was amazing!!! Great tip for survival, and a great tip to never throw plastic bottles away as they potentially become a wildland fire threat. Be safe and aware. 👍😉

once you find your base camp start a fire first. then find a really big log and set it on top that will keep the fire burning for hours then find water, food, materials for a wall and roof. that's the first 24hrs
