That cactus is actually a Queen-of-the-night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) not a dragonfruit. It is still a coveted species though and a fantastic find. You can also chop the snakeplant in half, the reduce the flopping and then plant the cut leaves as well. They should root and eventually grow into plants. Still so awesome to see the scraps :)

These trees you still hold the coast line. So well, until the hurricanes took them out. Which we can't stop that. But then the developers in the State started making these changes. And now there's more erosion than ever before.

Save The Australian pine, it is a good tree.😮😮😮
@AmericafromthegrindWolfe12 күн бұрын
This guy with this channel doesn't noway's talking about. Of course, if it shades out, there will be anything else growing near it. That's just nature yellowpine can do the same thing at all depends.
@AmericafromthegrindWolfe12 күн бұрын
But you can go to any store like home. Depot in Lowe's and get some other and vasive species and plant. That and that will be okay. The Australian pine is a really, really good tree. Just because something else won't grow near it. Which I know that's a lie. Because I've seen so many plants that have rat themselves around The Australian pine. I've seen cabbage Palm, which is the state tree. Grow right up next to it. And the American yellow pine, Southern yellow pine. Some tired of any body that's so ignorant. Don't know what they're talking about. Just because it has a lot of shade and something won't grow near it because it doesn't get enough. Sunlight isn't a good reason to chop this down and get rid of it? This tree is a damn good tree.
@AmericafromthegrindWolfe12 күн бұрын
It pisses me off so much. They've been here for ever. I can tell because of where they are. I've heard so many stories about who brought them here. And when. And the circus brought them here and planted them all over. It's just so ridiculous. They are all over the Southern states and in Texas. They're even in South America. But government wants to charge the taxpayers to remove them. And then people that want to buy land have to pay to have them removed. It just makes me so mad.

I haven't had so much fun watching a video than this one lol I wanted to be there and pick some too! The only thing I don't like is prickly plants, (we have plenty of here in TX) but everything else is awesome! I have that wondering Tradescantia, I think the one you showed is Zebrina and that grows a lot, super fast. Do you use root hormone for the one you say is slow? I love how your son is so knowledgeable about plants already! That's awesome! You are doing a good job! We have a Dracanea just sitting quietly doing nothing lol Those you picked up look huge! Your soil is the best... we have sand here, I cannot just stick in the ground. Oh... I love the Cuban Oregano! I have a variegated and I love it!! What a great video! Great haul!
@IslandsnHighlands12 күн бұрын
Thanks so much! Yes we try and limit the prickly plants in our yard too because we never wear shoes. We don’t really use root hormone, but we do put them in water for a few days before planting if we don’t have time to get them in the ground right away. We have sandy soil too, some areas are sandier than others. This is the rainy season here so stuff grows really fast right now and then slows down once we hit the winter months

I am so jealous of you being able to do this. Here in Canada we don't pile our plants out like that. Ours are all either bagged up in paper bags, taken to the landfill, or stuffed into our organics bins. Its mighty slim pickins for a plant pirate at heart like me. Although I have been known to snatch a few flower heads here and there for seeds. So nice to see you teaching your son valuable life skills like this.

I just moved to S. Florida from TN and besides a few things I brought w me my acre of land is bare so I would love to save stuff from the trash. I’m good at saving things and starting them from cuttings. None of my neighbors landscape so I don’t get a chance to do it. You can propagate the snake plant w just the leafs but it takes a while. I take a leaf, cut it in 3-4” sections, I normally cut an upside down V shape on the bottom so I know which is the bottom and it makes a little more surface for roots to form, I let it scab for a few days then plant in dirt. The sections will eventually push off new growth. I’ve also done this in water. Exact same steps but instead of planting in dirt I just put in a small cup of water. I only put enough water to cover maybe a half inch of the plant and I change the water weekly. Both methods have worked for me. I’ve not tried it in ground yet here but back in TN I did it multiple times inside. The “basket plant” looks like what we call wandering Jew and that stuff will grow/spread like a bad rash. I’ve had pieces fall off my hanging baskets and it just sitting on top the soil will root itself and spread all under my porch and surrounding area back in TN. Course the winter weather there killed it off but I’m sure where I am here in FL it would just keep right on growing. I have a pinch of it started in a small pot, I plan to plant it in ground come spring and see how it does in ground. I just moved in June so I’ve spent most the spring/summer getting move in and settled so I’m just now really ready to start w landscaping. I’m not sure how things will work in this new “tropical” environment. I’m use to freezing and frost effecting my outside stuff and having to bring in all my “house plants” so I’m basically experimenting w what I do have to see how things work through a winter here.

Welcome to Florida! The gardening here is so unique and different from Tennessee, but you will really enjoy it! It is so hard to grow the annual fruits and veggies from a traditional vegetable garden but it can be accomplished if you have raised beds and you are careful with the dirt you put in them. Nematodes are no joke here. We focus on what grows easily-as there are so many fun things you can grow easily-bananas, coconuts, papayas, pineapples, guavas, mangoes, avocados, and mulberries to just name a few. There are so many fun things that thrive down here!! Enjoy your gardening!!
