I bought mine (Hongdui) 10 days ago the shipped from California within a couple of days and I received them a couple of days after that. I'm all for supporting companies in US and Canada and if the price difference was $50-75 dollars I probably would have gone with Jessem ( I have their doweling jig), however I just couldn't see paying double. Can't wait for my new Harvey Saw to arrive this week so I can add them to my fence. Harvey like Hondui is a Chinese company but operates in US as well as China.

Hi, I wondered why the fine rip fence doesn’t start at zero, when the bearing is touching the saw blade. I mean if there is no clearance why doesn’t the gauge read zero? 🤔 There might be a perfectly good reason that I haven’t figured out yet 😔

What saw should they make it be at zero for? The slot is spaced differently on different saws. I like the fact I can set it to an even increment so it it easy to move it the amount I want.

Hey - thanks for the great video! Loved that you pointed out some of the things you liked and things you weren’t so sure about. Up to now, I’ve been a shop vac/HD dust stopper guy. I’ve thought about buying the old Central Machinery DC, but once you do the upgrades on it, may as well have bought a Jet or similar. I like that this machine does a fair amount of those upgrades. Do you know if the impeller is plastic or metal? I haven’t watched you other videos yet, but do you typically upgrade the impeller?
@ShopRamblings
@ShopRamblings Күн бұрын
It is metal. How many cfm are you needing. I think most people who upgrade the impeller didn't need to. This is going to be 10x the cfm you have. Rather than changing the impeller, if you spent that effort on duct work, you will probably get more return on investment. I have found out this is the Rikon Model 60-151C: 1.5 HP Dust Collector, just rebranded at half the cost. If you have any questions such as converting it to 220v or assembling the filter beater, download the Rikon manual.
@charleswv
@charleswv 5 сағат бұрын
@ oh hey, that’s great! I actually just took a closer look on their website on a computer and can see the impeller better to confirm. I don’t have huge cfm needs - just a Ridgid hybrid table saw, and DeWalt lunchbox planer.

People that think it’s unsafe have no idea what they are talking about. It is actually safer, as commercial OSHA requirements make them remove the dust to a separate area. Removing it to the exterior is the best idea.
@ShopRamblings

I prefer having it go outside to be collected. It does suck in the summer when it takes the air conditioning with it. May people have the issue in the cold of losing their hot air. In home shops, they are not required to have any dust collection. In my opinion, anything is better than nothing. This may not be perfect, but it is better than what I had for decades. Most people who criticize are, like you said, have no idea.

The bag on the old system had a clamp and was a pain. That was the main reason I modified my old system. I expected this one to be about the same. It surprised me that it wasn't that bad. The bag is very thick. It's not like a normal trash bag. I have only filled it up a couple of times. Once it gets about 3/4 full, I dump it. Then I reuse the bag. If you need to replace the bag, they are available at most woodworking stores or on Amazon. amzn.to/3PuSWui

Are you letting to tip touch? Are you using the stand off? Do you have enough air? Premature tip wear on a plasma cutter can be caused by several factors: Improper Cutting Parameters: High Amperage: Using excessively high amperage for the material thickness can significantly increase the heat load on the tip, leading to rapid wear. Incorrect Gas Pressure: Too High: Can cause excessive erosion of the tip orifice. Too Low: Can result in unstable arcs, leading to inconsistent cutting and increased wear. Incorrect Pierce Height: Too Low: Causes excessive contact between the tip and the workpiece, leading to rapid wear. Too High: Can result in unstable arcs and poor cut quality, indirectly contributing to tip wear. Consumable Quality: Using low-quality or incompatible consumables can significantly shorten their lifespan. Material Contamination: Cutting contaminated materials (e.g., painted, coated, or rusty metal) can introduce impurities into the plasma stream, accelerating tip wear. Operator Technique: Excessive Torch Movement: Rapid or erratic movements can increase the wear and tear on the tip. Incorrect Torch Angle: Cutting at an incorrect angle can put undue stress on the tip. Equipment Malfunction: Faulty Compressor: An underperforming compressor can deliver insufficient or contaminated air, impacting arc stability and tip life. Electrical Issues: Voltage fluctuations or other electrical problems can affect arc stability and increase wear. Lack of Maintenance: Regular Cleaning: Failing to clean the torch and consumables regularly can lead to the accumulation of debris, which can interfere with the plasma arc and accelerate wear. To minimize tip wear: Use the correct consumables for the material thickness and amperage. Follow the manufacturer's recommended cutting parameters. Maintain proper pierce height and cutting speed. Ensure clean cutting surfaces. Use high-quality consumables from reputable suppliers. Regularly inspect and clean the torch and consumables. Maintain proper equipment maintenance. By addressing these factors, you can significantly extend the life of your plasma cutter tips and improve overall cutting performance.

I may not be the best at it, and I certainly do not do it as much as I should. For decades, I never used any type of dust collection and never thought twice about it. Now I am really trying to use dust collection as much as possible. Something is better than nothing and you have to start from some where. For a person just starting out and does not know if they are going to enjoy the hobby or do this much, it can be very daunting to tell them they have to spend more for dust collection than what they were planning on spending on their beginner set of tools. You can see some of my older videos where I just used a $15 box fan and a $5 filter, which greatly improved the air quality in my shop. It seems like once you ever start dust collection and you see how much better it is with it, you will continue to increase it increase it until your add a desirable level. My main job is working in an emergency room. I see a lot of older people coming in with a lot of lung issues. I know people told me when I was younger, I regret it when I was older and didn't listen. It does seem like the younger generation is listening and that is going to be a great thing whenever they reach our age.

@ShopRamblings
@ShopRamblings 5 күн бұрын
I agree 100% with you. If you have to go over and turn it on and off every time you're not going to do it. If you want something to be used for safety, you have to make it easy. You can see I have a lot of videos showing where I automated my system by putting micro switches on my blast gates. Even with just having to reach up on my Miter saw less than a foot away from where the handle is and sliding the blast gate open to turn on my system. I catch myself sometimes not doing it. If I had to walk over and hit the on button that would happen a lot more often. Thank you for pointing this out and as soon as I finish with this comment I am going to go find one of those key fob switches on Amazon and put a link in the description. If you know of a good one please let me know as I don't use that system but it is a simple and easy to add.

@ the one I have is made by O’skool however it’s like $60 and it is designed for dust collectors however Amazon has 15 amp remote switches that are intended for anything 15 amp and they’re about $15. Because I do film in the shop and it makes it easy to turn the shop lights on and off with a key fob because when I film, I use cinematic lighting.

Nice review. Basically this is $150 more than the old one, which is 50% more ,but you're getting a lot for that. For starters, that's half the price Rockler charges for their similar paddle filter, though theirs claims a small micron filer. But that alone makes it worth it. But throwing in the better separation, bigger impeller, easier bag change, etc makes this really a no-brainer. The folks at Wynn filters are going to be really annoyed by this since I bet they made a lot of money from people upgrading their HF DCs with their filters.

I use a Hercules compound sliding miter saw from them and it is the best saw i have ever used. I have 2 dewalt non sliding saws and they have lasted over 20 years. Brushes and switches are all I ever replaced on them. I just didn't see spending nearly 700 dollars on a saw. My cousin has the dewalt version and even he is quite impressed with my Hercules. I also have a drill press from them I bought in the early 2000s. Only belts have been replaced. Also a number of mechanics tools, paint sprayers, nail guns and even their nails. I personally don't buy their cheaper line because I use my tools a lot.

The problem is idiots will buy the $12 grinder and get mad it doesn't last as long under heavy use as a $150 name brand grinder. Some tools are not made to last forever, but for the price, they have the best value in tools.

Dark glasses should not even be used with a torch but a #5 burning lens. I know we all do it. The reason is with the plasma machine is more like an electric arc for heat and the air for the actual cutting, the arc creating ultra violet rays. Same or very similar to a welding machine. You may want to research that but it makes sense to me. I;m going to check this machine out right now, been looking at the Harbor Freight stuff to, but this seems to out perform the Harbor Freight domos I watched. Thanks. Good Luck.
