I think it’s kinda important to note that both GD and T.O.P were influenced by actual hip hop artists like Wu-Tang, and comparing them to their peers in the K-Pop sphere/idol rappers, they definitely feel more legitimate and more authentic to what rap/hip hop music is. I feel like they definitely moved beyond the rapper tag by being brilliant producers/songwriters/artists. Sure, skill-wise they’re not the same level as Korean rappers but their overall artistry should be lauded; to be able to balance that mainstream appeal with legitimate hip hop edginess
