The pole (stepdown) transformers in residential areas are so poorly made, that they don't last 10 years. Some are completely inoperative when received by lineman. There is a transformer on a pole across from my apartment that has not been replaced in over 32 years and is working fine. Modern manufacture is so poor that it should be criminal.
