Aw yeah, you did check out that BBC interview where she showed-off additive synthesis. I always liked that they respected her transition, and didn't even bring-up that she'd come onto the BBC 10-15 years earlier wearing a suit and using a different name. (Though I've got to admit, I still think she looks really girly even in that earlier interview when she hadn't yet come-out.)

That's quite cool! I love this kind of experimentation! I play tenor sax and trombone in a rock band, so I also dabble in using FX on horns, which has really tickled my creativity (quite like yourself here)! At the moment I'm building a live rig where I have a small 4 channel mixer, with 2 XLR inputs, going into a Line6 PodGo to form an AUX loop on one of the stereo channels, so I can have both fully dry, fully wet sounds and in between stages. Still have to try it out live!

Love the series! Just watched all 5 of them! Other episode ideas: Annihilation Blade Runner 2049 Oblivion Tron Legacy (loved your other video about Joseph, but would also love to hear more about what synths you think got used in this) Then a spin-off series, the synths of horror! Halloween Stranger things It follows Other amazing synth horror scores…

It is cool, but it's lacking pounding compression and phatnezz. I do like it but it was just thin and clicky on my HiFi home theater system. Add more chorus, also there's no shuffle or swing really, so it sounds early 90's

The original 1027 step sequencer of the ARP 2500, as most of us know today, boasted 3 x 10 steps. The Behringer equivalent, due to having the Eurorack format, is truely limited to 3 x 8 steps 3:52

In Tron uprising the themes from Legacy are being used and imitated the main skeleton and base of all tracks are made by Daft Punk. I believe Joseph just helped their technical shortcomings in expressing the composition into complex symphonical arrangements.

I think Daft Punk and M83 created the synths and the melody, and Joseph Trapanese took the melody and adapt it to play it on orchestra and blend it with the synths.

That old-school Yamaha cs-80 is fascinating. I never knew it was used on the Blade Runner music, which sounds so haunting and eerie - I guess that whole eeriness that Vangelis created is mainly down to the Yamaha !

Interesting video. I definetly expect an arranger to have influence on the sound of a piece. However knowing “temp” tracks or the fact that a film composer can sell themselves on prior work - I wonder how much would be trapanese’s voice and how much daft punks for the original. Interesting video.

For sure… JT goes on record saying that DP were involved in the entire process from start to finish….(Disney may have had him at gunpoint tho) haha. Actually, knowing how famous they are, I imagine that the time JT spent with them was quite limited. I’d speculate that they agreed to a set amount of time to contribute for the right to use their name and JT & his team just had to make it work and deliver the score. Who knows tho. I think we can all agree that the score is awesome no matter what. Haha. Thanks for watching!

I’m going to guess that Daft Punk is solely credited as composers because their name is so huge, maybe they had an agreement or something to retain sole composing credit for monetary reasons. Because you’re right, Daft Punk throughout their history has never, ever been big on complex compositions and have been more about sequencing synths and creating unique sounds etc. I’ve really wondered this as well. Did they really compose all those epic sounding melodies? Because it’s very uncharacteristic if so.
@Koboto

Wow. This is incredibly condescending and smacks of elitism. Daft Punk and M83 are incredibly talented and unique voices in electronic music history. Sure, they might not have the classical training to give the tracks the final bit of polish (there are only so many Wendy Carlos's) , but they would certainly be capable of creating first drafts for Joseph to flesh out. Daft Punk after all did create two films prior to their Tron Legacy work. Joseph is a great arranger and all four artists are incredible composers. Let's all just get along. No one was miscredited, tho I'm glad Joseph got his name elevated in the credits😂 for oblivion

Tron Legacy and Oblivion have more in common than than Joseph Trapanese. Both have incredible soundtracks, are very underrated movies, as well as their director (photography, design, vfx…). The evolution of the film score industry and the implementation of computers and DAWS, made it possible for people with no classical background (who cannot read music) to become “composers”, which is great. Problem is, once they become famous (Zimmer mostly), and begin to hire assistants for EVERYTHING, it becomes very difficult for them to make a breakthrough and make a name for themselves (Badelt, Gregson-William brothers, Rabin, Mazzaro, etc). Trapanese surely deserves it.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqulnnR7fspspZI my take is, though he probably didn't get his due credit as a collaborator, that's more because of his insistence. He expresses that he helped them translate their ideas for the orchestration heavy stuff. Daft Punk directed it and it was their vision, according to all parties involved. But take into account that this was also Joseph's big break into the industry so I think he might have just gone along with letting them take credit for some of his composition ideas, though again, he says this is not the case.
@Koboto
@Koboto Жыл бұрын
For sure. I also read a few interviews where he says that. It definitely doesn’t seem that Joseph has any issues with the way things were credited. This is just my personal take but I’m just a peasant and I don’t have any inside knowledge of what actually happened.

@Koboto
@Koboto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It kinda depends on what you wanna do with it. It’s a very powerful synth but it’s not super intuitive imo. If you’re looking for something that’s “hands on” where you can move knobs or sliders to manipulate and build patches then…it’s not great for that. It’s no longer supported by Roland so they’ve stopped doing firmware updates and it doesn’t work with current operating systems so it can’t connect via usb for midi or Audio anymore. (At least as far as I can see). For $500 you could probably get more use out of a solid software synth and midi controller. That’s what I should have done when I was starting. Actually…I think 500 can get you a full version of logic or cubase which both come with solid native synth plugins. Also Native Instruments has some great bundles for around that price. That’s all if you’re trying to produce music…if you’re playing live…nah, the G6 weighs a ton and isn’t good for gigging. Hope that helps.
