Not user replaceable. All you can do is drain and refill. Case needs to be split open to change filter.

Great video, I don't have any reservations on working on my transmission now at all. My third gear misses sometimes. I have a question that I don't seem to be able to find an answer on "How much Fluid does this transmission hold? I got mine used from a salvage yard, it was drained completely. I put 4-1/2 quarts in, that was the only amount I saw in my searches, I don't want to over fill it.

Gearbox oil (ATF) temperature sender G93 It is located inside the gearbox housing. It continuously monitors the temperature of the ATF oil and sends a temperature signal to the gearbox control unit. I have read people buy a new sensor and wire it into the harness near the solenoids. Unless you plan to open the trans case?

Hi John, This is very well put together video. Really appreciate your time on this. I have two mk4 jettas and i did this solenoid change on one of them, the car shifts fantastic. But the other car acting up and im in process of doing the same, but probably made a mistake while taking the multifunction switch, while loosening the middle bolt the car went back a bit, stupid me tried again went back bit more. Then I took the link off. The question is Im Paranoid now. Is there anything i must do to reset it?

@John76546-x
@John76546-x Жыл бұрын
There were two connectors above the transmission pan you removed. One is for the transmission, I believe to determine the gear selector. Glow plug I do not know, however older VW the insulation liked to crack on the wires you move. The glow plug wires are in the big harness (like 11i4 " diameter) running alongside the transmission.

2005 vw golf with this same transmission, does not upshift 3,4,5 unless you let up on the gas pedal. Trans has 188k miles and oil has never been changed, just did first drain and fill, and oil was brown, is there a chance this could be solenoid issues?
@John76546-x
@John76546-x Жыл бұрын
I think there is. I would drive around a few miles and drain and fill again. If I remember, only a little over 3 liters per drain and fill. I remember the first time I did mine, it was following a shift that hit like a hammer as I was speeding up to go through a traffic light. It took three drains and fills for mine to smooth out. The main reason I went with the Valvoline ATF. The VW at 18-20 dollars a liter would have been horribly expensive.

Hello. Nice video. I got a europ jetta (named bora here) of 2002 1.8t with te 5 speed tiptronic. Vcds tell me its solanoid valve 10. Shuld i replace only this one or better replace them all. I suddenly got bad shifting up and down in evry gear.
@John76546-x
@John76546-x 2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what valve 10 would be. I have included some recommended Ohm readings you should get measuring resistance at the TCM. Ohms checks are not conclusive unless they check bad. Solenoids can fail underuse, going open, or shorting. when hot. If you are going to remove the cover and replace one solenoid, yes, I would recommend changing them all. In the USA, the cost is about $300 to $350 for a set of all solenoids. I would avoid the cheap ones from eBay.

@@John76546-x thanks for reply! Vcds say the problem is solenoid, wiring or tcm problem. Most likely i think would be the solenoid. @John76546-x
@John76546-x 2 жыл бұрын
There is no accessible filter in the 09A transmission unless you remove and split the case. You are pretty much with spill and fill. If you do consecutive with few miles driving between, you will refresh the fluid. I believe Cobra Transmission from Florida is who I purchased the solenoids from. I once bought much cheaper ones on Ebay, recommend not to do this mistake. They did not last very long. Remove small screw new driver wheel well on power steering and put hose under trans, will give you a lot of room to do this repair without putting car into service position.
