Yet another wonderful video Sal, What a good way to celebrate Batman Day 2k22. And incidentally a week before my 20th birthday! 😅 1991 was certainly a big rise for the Bat, the next year is going to be even bigger! 🦇🐈⬛🐧 To be honest, I always found Peter Milagins run to be a very unique approach. Seeing Batman got his start as this weird pulpi hero of the 30s. I can't wait to see what's in store this October 🎃

Regardless of Ace and Harold being editorial mandate and not being the writers descision, that's no reason not to like them. I feel they were great edtions in fact.

Hi Salazar, epic video didn't realise ALL this content came out in just one year, a personal favorite of mine is IDENTITY CRISIS, Peter Miligan's writing approach was a fresh and exciting departure from all the cross-overs and wider Batman characterisations which was being built up during this time. Harking back to some of the more supernatural elements which 1970s DC Comics were choc full of. This issue also boasts some of Tom Mandrake's best ever art on Batman, shadowy and atmospheric as the Dark Knight should be. Keep up the great work!

Will do! Believe it or not, next year is even bigger in terms of content!!

5:27 The Golem looks a little bit like Clayface. Also there was a robot named "The Golem" in Batman Beyond but it had nothing to do with this story.

My favorite moment of the 1991 chapter of Batman history has to be Chuck Dixon’s shadow box storyline. I love the subtle yet very profound bits of characterization for Batman Dixon wrote in along with the gritty tone of the story.

Well, I actually loved Wolfman's take on The Case of The Chemical Syndicate more than Alan Grant's. Nevertheless, Wolfman was unsuitable for Batman.

If I can interject: okay plotwise even if The Idiot Root and Batman Holy Terror were not particular Batman stories to write home about, for any aspiring artists, it's a good study, and quite frankly aside from Neal Adams, Marshal Rogers, even Greg Capullo, there's no better artists to study than Norm Breyfogle and Jim Aparo

Fantastic video, I'm going to watch every single one until the end of history! Little heads up: "late great tim sale" or "late great goerge perez" would mean that the work you're talking about was done late in their career, but they both died in 2022 - 31 years later. But that's just a minor thing I noticed, all the research you put into these videos is amazing and I'm loving every minute of it! Edit: I was wrong myself and you did everything right here, whoops

No, sorry, using the word "late" in that manner simply means that person has passed away. Nothing more.

I did not care for Blood Rain. It worked, but was visually unappealing, though Arkham Assylum was worse. By contrast I loved Holy Terror and read it multiple times, and would cheerfully do so again. This would probably be even more of a shock as I am very conservative religiously. However, I have been noted to have an inate contrarian streak which will often put me at odds with the conventional wisdom, whether I would or not. Lastly, I think that Robin II: Joker's Wild is my favorite comic, if for no other reason than it serves as a beautiful callback to Death in the Family and payoff for A Lonely Place of Dying. If nothing else, it shows thar Tim Drake is more than able to fill the role left by Dick and Jason.

I know most Batman fans are Aparo fans but as SK says Grant-Breyfogle were crushing Wolfman-Aparo because of the stories but also because Norm's art was superior looking at it back to back with Aparo's

There's something I've always wondered about Detective Comics 627: Batman's 500th appearance in the title was 526, which makes sense, as 527 would've been his 501st appearance. So... did he skip an issue before the 600 milestone? Otherwise, shouldn't Batman's 600th Detective appearance be, y'know, 626?

This video has kind of put me off of buying Dark Knight Detective volume 7 next year, which will collect adventures from Batman #474, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #27, Detective Comics #634-638, Detective Comics #641, Detective Comics #643, and Detective Comics Annual #4. The stories just sound horrible and I really don't like Louise Simonson as a writer at all and find her to be mediocre at her best.

I think your channel is excellent, never miss an episode, BUT I can't agree with you about Norm Breyfogle. Most of his art looks rushed to me, it has no style and seems more like layout or first draft rough pages, they could be by almost anyone (and they need to be finished).
@SalazarKnight2 жыл бұрын
That's alright. We all have our preferences. What would you say is your favorite Batman artist?
@markshulusky66802 жыл бұрын
That's more difficult. Keeping in mind my preference is for more "classic" art in comics, I appreciate the super clean line work and (admittedly cookie-cutter) proportions of Rogers and Austin in Detective (best Hugo Strange IMO). For a moody Batman I actually like the rough, noir style of the original 30's and 40's stories. It draws you in and makes you feel like you're a spectator to actual events (that super-evil criminal -not cartoon- Joker and femme fatales Catwoman). I even like (and favor) Aparo in Brave and Bold. The team-ups with other hero characters read like basic "comic book" stories and his art fits perfectly.

I'm not a fan of Judge Dredd largley due to his facist nature. It's not hard to see that Batman and Judge Dredd hate each other in the Batman/Judge Dredd comics, though I think Judge Dredd would get along really well with Millerverse Batman, given their similar attitudes.
