Interesting. Can you make similar video for cheap CRI meters? Lets say cheap $20 no brand name from china vs professional $8k integrating sphere.

Brightness is not the issue here aiming headlights is. You can blind people just as well with sealed beams if you aim them the way modern cars have their headlights aimed, which is to say not aimed correctly at all.

the coil is only efficient in the field. when the coil is outside it gets hot and will burn. Clipping will cause the coil to leave the core area and the wires will get hot

The major problem isn't the brightness, it's the * colour temperature *. Night time lights of all kinds need to be * warm white * and NOT daylight white. Everywhere this mistake is being made, from car headlights to head torches to security lights. There will be many car accidents and medical complications due to effects other than just glare. Especially migraines and similar. I know this because I am a lucky survivor from cluster headaches, where sensitivity to the right and wrong light types became permanently exaggerated, but I have no means to prove it. As such it will take a long time with many problems before this get's resolved. I write this here in the possibly futile hope that someone might notice who wants to do something about this problem. I write this comment without watching the video so have no idea whether this aspect is raised or not. From the title it looks like the blame will be directed to brightness or technology type. You will forgive me for not wanting to see daylight white LEDs at night.

I run aftermarket LED H4 bulbs in my car, Philips Ultinon Pro6000 to be exact. They do look very different from the version you have and after getting them adjusted properly, I do not get any flashes from oncoming drivers. Funnily enough I seem to be difficult to detect now for oncoming cars that have the auto high beam, because if I flash them for not turning off their high beams, their high beams turn of the millisecond I flash them as a computer would. There is also a very sharp line from light to no light on low beam, you can really see the beam shape now. The visibility on high beam is insanely good, better than our Mazda 6 with the motorized headlights that aim up. It is so bright that sometimes the reflection of large street signs is uncomfortable. And Philips now makes a Boost version of these bulbs that are EVEN BRIGHTER, 300% brighter than halogen vs 230% on the ones I have.

They need to be banned even when they're low beams you can't see. Many people have a problem driving at night and that makes it 10 times worse. Ban them permanently

in Australia, it is common to see cars and Utes with massive spotlights mounted externally to a bulbar or similar. law states that there must be a switch to deactivate them even when the high beams are switched on. fyi: the spotlights are usually wired to turn on along with the cars factory high beams

One thing to note about voltages with cars. While the battery voltage is 12.6v for a fully charged battery, the electrical system actually operates as high as 14.5v (give or take a few tenths) under normal operation. So ideally the bulbs should be tested at the higher 14v level to get a more accurate read on brightness.

On our 2020 BMW X5 with laser lights, they will only work if there are no oncoming cars and above 34mph, otherwise it switches to the regular LED. so it's mainly designed to work on a highway.

I think 2x 300.000 candela is still 300.000 candela, because candela is light intensity per angle. Two headlights have double light output but not double light strength per angle. Except if the lampd are so far away, tvey can be treated as one lamp, but at that distance, the lux will be quite low.

Properly designed LED applications are current limited. Thus, higher voltage does not increase brightness.

shame to not follow thru on a better setup when you have such ridiculous magnets to work with, esp since you have the expensive equipment already and the remainder of the list is relatively cheap: watt meter: $15 pyrex measuring beaker with lid: $10 thermocouple thermometer leads running thru center of beaker lid (inside µwave = real time temp): $20 printed magnet mount with screw-adjustable plate for accurate distance measurement: ~$20 of filament ... or.. embrace the no-effort approach and skip the temp tables all-together, just go for dramatic effect: "how to disable a microwave with 'no-contact' magnets!"

I drive many miles a year and many of them at night. And what I've noticed: 1. Bad adjusted Headlights (specially halogen), some light up the ISS, some are throwing a whopping 3m in front of the car, seen that also with Xenon. 2. Not knowing what the height adjustment in their car is (seen on 25W Xenons, cheaper LED systems and halogen, if equipped) 3. Slugghish glarefree highbeam systems (too slow, bad at detecting stuff or some won't detect led taillights) 4. Just Bad LED systems (1st gen Seat Leon with LED, 1st Benz GLS with LED, some VAG-LED headlights ) 5. Permanent high beam drivers (won't go into low unless you really give them the shit with your brights) I've driven myself: halogen, damaged Xenon, good Xenon, adaptive Xenon (also with glarefree function), Matrix LED, glarefree Highbeam with LED (and Laser), non adaptive Reflector LED and projector LED. The most flashes from others I got with the damaged Xenon and the non adaptive projector LED, the others? Were bueno, but I switched of the matrix and glarefree function on the autobahn. Buy yourself for a proper comparsion the Osram H4 legal LED, then do the test again, these cheap LED's tend to throw the light around everywhere. Also: Most Xenon use 3200lm output bulbs (settle at 2800lm), but they SPREAD that light far more than any halogen ever could, so the density is still ok. LED can achieve the same thing, but with a much more daylight-ish color temperature. So they appear brighter, but some aren't brighter than a good maintained Xenon system with fresh bulbs. The Laser modules in modern cars are ONLY triggered when the car detects NO sign of any traffic, then the small spot goes on. The effect is quite marginal and most cars don't trigger them very often. Modern LED projectors are also quite complex, a good video about that made Zerobrain on his german channel, where he dismantles on of a newer style. I also did dismantle a old VW Tiguan FULL LED headlight (case and lens were completely shattered, so wasn't rebuildable, was quite awesome. The power input was for the Lowbeam around 25W (directly connected), which should've resulted in roughly over 2,2-2,5klm at the LED's (8 of them composed the low beam). I'm not denying that the headlights are getting brighter, but legally they're also capped at a certain maximum output. And some drivers are just easily offended by anything that is more fancy than their light system. Also, when something glares, don't STARE into it, just look down right or left to the side of the road. Works everytime and I have glasses AND my windscreen is "wireless" heatable, so these fine wires distort the oncoming lights also a bit.
