I listened to this in the mid 50s. Would this be the original broadcast that was lost? I recall the starting announcement 'Journey into Space' being spoken with a deeper less insipid voice . It was followed by 'Written and produced by Charles Chiltern'. Years later, when the cassette came out, I was most disappointed by its version of the intro. David Jacob's version on the Red Planet was even more insipid. Ps. Why is Jet always so angry and dismissive?

@journeyintospacefans 10 күн бұрын
Sadly no. That was lost. No one's kept a copy. This is the 2nd version, with the edits in the script. Apparently, the 1st 2 episodes went quite slowly, the first time through, so they merged them together for this version. Jet is very dismissive, and quite mean at times, to Lemmie.

I know this sounds ridiculous, because I am, after all, listening to Sci Fi/fantasy, but I found this story tooooo far fetched!🙄 Space Force series 1 was good but I prefer Jet Morgan with his crew and adventures. Thanks for sharing this .

Goodness me! I remember listening to this when I was a boy, and I’m nearly eighty now. No TV in those days, but when we sat in front of the fire as a family and listened to this on the wireless we could see it all in our mind’s eye.

Aww, poor Lemmy. He's the everyman, to allow the rest of the cast to explain things to us, the audience. But he does come across as totally unsuited to the job, in space at least.

How did they record these? On record?
@journeyintospacefans
@journeyintospacefans 2 ай бұрын
I believe they recorded them onto tape. However, the first time they went on the radio, they performed live and didn't record them, so they had to re-act them out the 2nd time and for that performance, they merged the first 2 or 3 episodes to speed things along. So the version we now have isn't the actual original version!

Thank you for uploading these! I'm on my annual relisten of all of them. It's strange but your version has bits that my downloaded one (either from the cd or possibly the actual cassette tapes) doesn't have! Are there two versions? For example, when they get Jet and Mitch in from the fog, there's a conversation between Rogers and Lemmy that I've never heard before. My version, doc gets them in and Lemmy says, how are they doc? No rogers at all. There's been various points where I've thought it was slightly different. This is amazing to me as I must have listened to my version about fifty times now.

I thought I was having a senior moment during Operation Luna. There seemed to be passages that I didn't recall from previous listenings. One thing I found amusing was the use of David Jacobs for all the extra voices. His voice was so recognisable, even his use of strange accents couldn't mask him.

Anyone out there remember the comedian Duo of Abbott and Costello. ? Now the character Lenny with the other captain of the ship. Are you following me so far ? Well thinking back of that fantastic Duo being. : -- Abbott and, Costello they were from the 1940s the old black and white movies.. Now, Costello was the short plumpy man that was always afraid of everything... Abbott was the sensible not afraid of anything type of man.. So listening to Lenny afraid of meeting the aliens that's exactly Costello all over again... That's if you ever watched an old Abbott and Costello movies, they were very very funny. I guess that's the way he wrote the script being a little afraid but having comedy tied into it !

What is noted there no continuity having reference to Jet Morgans mars journey made some 30to40 years before this being written by the much missed Charles Chilton. Stories made by others much later although having to use new actors, the orginal ones not available , did keep the Journey into Space going.
