I went to the church History Museum today next to our hotel in Salt Lake and going to temple square in the morning. What a blessing to be here and be on the other side of the glass of things owned by people like Newel K Whitney and things belonging to all of the previous Prophets. The Spirit was soooo strong. This was my response to a question from a work friend a couple of days ago. *** There is a lot to say as a great answer to these great questions. An answer to why having more than the Bible is this analogy. A man and a woman are pretty good on their own, but put them together in a loving marriage and they are soooo much more together than they could ever be apart. They have the potential to have children and balance each other, encourage, counsel, support, inspire, learn and the list goes on. The Bible is so much easier to understand and our knowledge of it is greatly increased by adding more references. Sections from the Bible are almost exactly the same in the Book of Mormon and there are many many references to the Bible because these people (Lehi and his family) were told by God 600 years before Jesus was born that Jerusalem would be destroyed and things were going to get really bad for the people and that they needed to leave and take the written records (scripture history) from the wicked King Laban who was in control of them (big surprise) and leave. So parts and teachings of the Bible are in the Book of Mormon because this is what they have been taught and because this is what they knew having lived in Jerusalem

Fantastic job, Victor 😊 I think that it is a fine talk. I love that you learned some Samoan to say to them. My only suggestion would be to add some scripture quotes. I always like when people teach from the scriptures and make them come alive in new ways or ways that pertain to the topic at hand. The high councilmen speak a lot, so you'll get plenty of opportunities to write and deliver talks 😊

How come Lehi and company didn't follow the valiant example of Captain Moroni and his crew and the precept to stay and defend their faith, culture, and livelihood at any and all costs?! Do you think it would have been less about God providing Lehi revelation to leave Jerusalem if his family had more like-minded people to back them up in arranging such a front? Or is there a real precept here for us to draw from in finding an effective way to survive conflict and threats to our faith, culture, and livelihood by leaving and moving somewhere else away from conflict? How long did the fruits of this decision last?! How long did the fruits of the other example last?!
