Man, Fitzpatrick was so much fun to watch and you honestly never knew what you would get from him week to week. I think he was a good to great backup but JUST short of being able to be a consistent starter in the NFL. I really want to give him a B- because he was so much fun to watch but I think a solid C+ is perfect for him. A little better than average with flashes of brilliance every now and then.

Gotta love how nobody ever knows facts about cleveland. You did not focus on Brownie the Elf, the real logo of the Cleveland Browns. You didn't mention their colors or why they chose them. The new logo was briefly looked at but the guitar pick was your focus. The Browns were named after Paul Brown even though he tried to claim they were named after Joe "the brown bomber" Louis. The colors were to pay respect to Bowling Green University where Paul Brown coached for many years before becoming the first coach in Cleveland. Brownie the Elf was chosen by Paul's wife because the team had no mascot and she was a girl scouts and brownies leader. So the Browns used the brownies elf with a crown as the first logo (Against Art Modell's liking). The dawg logo was started in the 1980s because Hanford Dixon would bark after making a play because the Arsenio Hall show was so popular at the time and Arsenio Hall was a Cleveland native. Yes, the fans in the crowd of the Arsenio Hall show would bark when he came on stage for every show. Cleveland has a rich history but people too young to care about it just ignore it all because since 1999, we haven't had much to celebrate. Horrible owners, worse GMs, and despicable head coaches have wasted the talented players brought here.

The Cowboys' logo being the oldest because it has had no changes since the 60's is a reach. There are quite a few older teams like the Bears, Packers, and 49'ers whose helmet logos have only had very minor changes. You should differentiate between helmet logos and secondary logos.

The Ravens logo was used for 2 years before it had to be retired. It was an unsolicited submission from the guy (the team probably got thousands). It’s true that the guy said he only wanted a signed helmet, but the NFL, who controls all of this sort of thing, not the team itself, had lawyers savvy enough to know that even if the request was genuine, if they admitted that the guy had anything to do with it, he or his estate would eventually come after them for a share of the money made from the design. Secondly, I believe the Ravens logo is the only one with two distinct primary logos. For contrast, if you look at the Chiefs logo on their helmet, the right side is the same as the left, except the arrrowhead points in the opposite direction and the KC is reversed, but it’s the same KC as the other side. Likewise, the Texans, cardinals, patriots, etc. have the same logo on both sides, just a mirror image. For the Ravens, the left-facing logo (primarily seen on the left side of the helmet and few other places) is different than the right side. The B is an entirely different shape. This is a good way to know if you’re getting knock-off merch, too. If it has a left facing logo, but a right-side B, it’s not the real thing.

Wow! I didn’t know the NFL had that much control that a team couldn’t even send an autographed helmet without permission. Great insight! Very true about that distinction about the Ravens helmet, I appreciate the input!
@eighthave

@ Yeah, the teams have influence, of course, but you’d probably be surprised at how little. I interviewed the person in charge of publications at the time for the Ravens and had some questions about the logos and she’s the one that told me all of that was handled in New York at headquarters. That interview was back in the early 2000s. I mainly remember that we had the interview at “The Liar’s Luncheon,” which is the press conference held just before the draft, where the people on the dais don’t want to give away what they are actually doing or who they really want. I would have made an effort to talk to the person in charge of the logos, but I think the deadline was close, so it didn’t work out.

Redskins went from 1st place helmet and team colors to dead last 32nd by making uniforms more purply/less burgundy, getting rid of the 2 yellow/one center white stripe, and most importantly getting rid of the freakin Indian on the helmet and putting that collegiate "W" on it instead

Titans fan here - The Titans got their name from the residents of the state. There was a poll that was sent to every residents house at the state that they would vote for a team name. Some of the names on that list were Tornadoes and Pioneers. We were ALMOST the Tennessee Tornadoes instead of the Tennessee Titans. Oh and the 3 stars on the flag represent Eastern, Middle, and Western Tennessee. Not some “three star thing they have going on there”

I'm pretty sure the Raiders logo has actually been in use longer than the Cowboys, if we want to get really technical about it. The Raiders switched to their current shield in 1964 and while the Cowboys started with a star in 1960, they didn't add the extra blue outline until 1967. KC might have a claim as well as they've been basically the same thing since 1963, but I guess the thickness of the black outline or maybe the arrowhead shape has changed slightly over the years?
@TripleDS
@TripleDS 3 күн бұрын
I’m going off the top of my head here but the Raiders did technically change their logo in 2020 by adding a white outline to the design As for the Chiefs, their current logo came in 1972, prior to that they had the running Native American as their logo
