The shortsightedness of the root cause for pitchers’ climbing UCL injury rate is just amazing. I am an Orioles fan, this regular season alone, they have 4 pitchers - three starters - going down for UCL injuries, one of them will go through a TJ surgery for the SECOND time in his career (John Means). Sooner or later, MLB will have to confront the pitchers UCL injuries head-on, but they would rather ignore it as long as they can.

Please explain to me how the Astros are in a downfall when they’ve won 6-straight, which includes sweeping the O’s whom haven’t been swept since May 2022. Astros were 10 GB of Seattle on 6/18, now only 4.5 GB. We literally have an entire World Series winning starting rotation on the IL, but that won’t phase the most experienced post season team in the MLB since ‘17.

The Yankees at #1 surprise? They perennially have one of the highest payrolls in the MLB. Cleveland has best record in baseball - but keep talking about the Phillies, O’s, Yankees, Dodgers.

I think i heard somewhere at the start of the season that the pitchers for the Astros that are on the IL had more playoff wins than the rest of the AL combined?

Same phillies team that had 2 opportunities on HOME field last post season v Arizona and CHOKED it up!!

i get why Houston would be top disappointment. luckily they have fixed 3 of their main 4 issues. bullpen is doing better, Bregman is hitting again and most of all they released Jose Abreu. Jose Abreu was a huge rally killer. i would've rather had Zack Greinke batting this year than Jose Abreu. only problem they have left is the Starting pitching. it's hard to succeed when you have a fringe top 5 rotation on the IL

ppl seem to be forgetting this is also the first season Cleveland has been w/o Francona at the helm for almost a decade lol this is all happening under a first-time, first-year coach

Hopefully some organization will have the guts to go against the trends and teach their pitchers to move the ball around and change speeds. A 92 MPH fastball can be very effective if the changeup is 76 MPH and the slider is 84 MPH. Work quickly, throw strikes, change speeds. Pitch to contact instead of always going for the strikeout. Keep your pitch count down. Let your defense make plays. Hopefully some organization will figure this out and lead the way out of this obsession with velocity.

I think a huge contributing factor is that if you focus on analytics (pitch velocity, spin rates) it makes scouting easier. All you have to do is point the radar gun at someone or measure their spin rate. Scouts can then be lazier. They don't have to really evaluate a pitcher and see how he pitches and does he get outs. You just look at a number on the gun and you know whether or not you want to go after a player. It's lazy.
