50/50 is historic. 60/60 would be otherworldly. Cannot believe the regular season is coming to an end. Wouldn't that be amazing if the Tigers and Mariners got the second and third wildcards? Just a few weeks ago, the Royals and Twins were battling the Guardians for the division lead. The way it looks now one or both of them may miss the playoffs altogether. Think we could state definitively, especially in the way this season started out, when it comes to the AL West, the Houston Astros are inevitable.

When Ben read the question asking why there’s no 100 win team this season I was going to give the same exact answer. The new schedule has crazy travel now. They used to play way more in their own geographic area. The Dodgers going to Atlanta, then Miami and then all the way back to LA ain’t no joke. That’s an example of crazy travel. LA is lucky to have Shohei because the Rockies would’ve made that series much closer after all that travel.

The Astros have the most playoff success in recent memory out of the teams on the AL side but here’s what I also know the Astros went to the WS in 17,19,21, and 22 all years where they had the best record in the AL or second best. The one year they didn’t go was last year. So the one time out of the last 5 trips to the playoffs where the didn’t make the WS was when they were lower than the two seed, which is what they are again this year. So recent history has shown that if they aren’t at least the two seed, they don’t make it out of the AL

The biggest advantage the Guardians have is that they have the ability to condense the game because of a lockdown bullpen that is led by closer Emmanuel Clase, who has been close to perfect.

Regarding the ball. Having been around baseball collectibles for over 40 years and understanding the market, over the next few days, I'd offer it up for $3 million flat as excitement is everything and a millionaire can count it off on their taxes. There's also the Japanese factor. This isn't just an American thing, but Japan as well. There are corporations who'd pay a lot to get that ball, to have it in their collection. It is life changing money, so if the person just took in a game while maybe being unemployed, having kids who need an education, etc, I can't blame them for whatever they do. The ball isn't owed to anyone. But I would sell it as soon as possible as Ohtani could go 60/60 as you mentioned and then what's more valuable? 50/50 made him the first. He should get 55/55, but it's not a round number. 60/60 is just stupid. Imagine if he got 61, tying Maris. In addition, each HR ball this season is worth $10k or more. The first HR in a Dodgers uni has a bit of value. Round numbers have a bigger value. Record setting balls (a lot this year). The whole value is skewed due to the Japanese collectors who are rabid as hell and willing to spend a ton of money just to come over and watch the games. They'd definitely pay up much more than an American collector for a ball. Just started following you. Love the content.

@@Iolo3agreed with your point that it doesn't feel as urgent as 50/50 but doesn't mean he would stop hitting/stealing completely. Its unfair to expect it, but "saving" it for play-off is totally something you couldn't do, baseball doesn't work like that lol. If he can hit Homers (to reach 60) he'll do it, with there are still important games to get division and play-off soon, its not cooling off period yet, he is supposed to get even more hot. Stolen bases in the other hand are situational based, i think if it benefits the team/position he will still do it (not to reach 60 number or whatsoever). At this point Shohei still playing for the best, the goal isnt to create any more club but if the opportunities cames he'll take it. I'm pretty sure its highly improbable. I really wish people would stop dragging other players and their efforts and accolades down to "make a point" about someone they don't want to win. I remember when Judge was really going off in August and it was Judge this Judge that and my thoughts were "Damn, Judge is nuts!" instead of "Well he doesn't steal bases or plays shortstop." You might even see it in the NL ROY conversation with Skenes having a historic year being a rookie pitcher having a sub 2 ERA. But he doesn't play every day so now we got to devalue him? And the DH can't win MVP makes me think of past AL pitchers winning MVP. They neither hit nor played every day and yet they can win MVP? Yeah, okay. 🙄
@moonlight1998ma3 ай бұрын
I'm also a big Shohei Ohtani fan, but I don't see 60/60 happening. Maybe 50/60, but 60/60 is unlikely. Padres pitchers are very good, maybe he will hit 1 home run, 2 at most off of them. I can see him hitting 5 more in Colorado, that is if he doesn't get walked. Rockies and Dodgers are division rivals so I don't think they will let him hit the 60th home run off of them. But if he can take care of the homers earlier than the stolen bases, I can see him getting that 60/60.

They threw juiced balls to judge for ratings. that’s been proven. I wouldn’t be surprised if sho balls were juiced also. This came after the juiced ball years that made a mockery of the game. Now the bases are bigger and pitcher are handcuffed in their ability to hold runners on. 50/50 is a joke and he never would have been able to do it without the rule changes. In 2022 the stolen base leader stole 41 bags. No one stole fifty. They changed the rules and the year after, 3 people stole over fifty bags with Acuna getting almost 80. Witt and Abrams just missed fifty also. This year will have three or maybe four that reach fifty. All and all, stolen bases are up almost fifty percent from 2022. That’s huge. Sho himself has seen bags almost double. More than that his success rate is a lot higher after the rules. In 2022 he stole 11 bags and got caught 9 times. This year he’s 55 for 4. If you think the rule changes didn’t make this feat possible then you are truly naive. It’s not the same as the dudes who hit forty forty in bigger parks with smaller bases and no pitch clock. It’s not about sho or even the dodgers. It’s about every player from every team that came before him. They are making a mockery of the record books for instant gratification. They have ruined what I loved about the game which was the rich history. What a joke award.

He reached 59SB this year because he learned how to get the jump and steal better, and he's not pitching. It's not the bigger bags lmao less than 10 players getting more SBs out of the hundreds of pros isn't a realistic sample size. And Ohtani's not going to get even close to 50SB again when he's back on the mound -- he didn't break 30 in any of the 2021-23 seasons. He achieved 50/50 because he could and because this is likely the only year he will. Hope you can become less insecure about something that does not affect your life.

Might as well throw a 150 years worth of stats out the window so we can all have instant gratification. You think all it was is a better jump? Do you not see how many SB there are now? Not just from Ohtani but the whole league? Acuna 40-70. Del la Cruz went 30-80. This is ridiculous. It’s going to hurt the sport in the long run. I don’t understand how not accepting the narrative makes me insecure but hey believe what you want. You already believe all of this is real anyway.

The thing is they are all Ohtani Haters. I would keep it and SELL HIGH. That said, If I had the 50/50 ball in my possession, I would ask for $2,000,000 in BTC. One more thing, there are 6 more games left. Therefore, Ohtani needs to hit 2 Homers each for the 3 games out of the 6 games left in the Season. Then he only needs to hit only 1 Homer for the rest of the games left in the Season. As for Stolen Bases, he just needs to steal only 5 Bases in 6 games. And, that's very feasible. Hitting the Homers will be more difficult than stealing the bases. However, if he's able to do to what I just said, then for sure he'll definitely be Mr. 60/60.
