With as many "Knits Inspired by Outlander" knitting books as there out there, perhaps the producers should consider a "Knits Inspired by Call The Midwife" book. I'd buy it.

The "not finishing something before passing away and someone else finishes it" thing is something that really hits me hard. I was asked to finish the final quilt my grandma had been making before she died in September. It's almost done, just doing the quilting part, and its going to take me a long time to do because I get pain in my hands often.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend - it comes through how heartbroken you are, and I'm sending love and so much sympathy. I agree that watching fictionalized versions of what we've gone through, even when the fiction is quite different from our own experience (e.g. the loss of a baby vs. the loss of a friend), can be healing and very meaningful.

One of the things I love most about Call The Midwife is the very real balance of sadness with joy - just like real life. From birth to death, we all experience loss sprinkled in with the happiness life also offers. The acting is good, the topics fit the time in which the program is set. And of course the costumes and decor. My sympathies for your loss - it's never easy.

I was born in London in 1970s, and we had a knitting shop near us like Violet's. We then moved out of London to a town in the late 1970s and again there were shops like that in the town centre and on the newer estates. Some of my friends at high school (for 11-16 year olds) had jumpers or cardigans that were knitted for them. My brother asked me to make him a pair of socks. It was a labour of love... I needed to use yarn that could be machine washed and tumble dried, but I find superwash yarn very scratchy. He died earlier this year and had his socks. And I use the leftovers to darn my socks. 😢❤

I think vintage knits can be so interesting or quirky. I'm trying to find a pattern to recreate a 'Woman's Land Army' jumper. I used to knit tea cosies when I first learnt to knit but I drink herbal tea now so teabag goes straight in a mug! When my dad died the funeral parlour gave me and my sister a knitted heart and said that my dad had one too, it was very emotional and such a lovely thing to do 💞

It’s a very cosy watch and the knitted garments that they wear both male and female are adorable and in my opinion historically accurate. I highly recommend it ❤❤❤

I love these videos you do on Call the Midwife! I started watching the show because of your first one and it's one of my favorite shows now. I think Barbara's cardigan is knit in a wide broken rib stitch, that's why you can see vertical lines as well as garter ridges breaking it up. A tea cozy knit along sounds so fun! I don't have a tea pot but I'm already imagining a vintage-inspired mug cozy :D

My grandmother knitted every single one of her grandchildren a toy, whether we liked it or not. She was a very small lady who was a very aggressive knitter. She could only knit clowns, I think it was a common pattern, and I was scared of the blasted things. She was also a dreadful cook. I did love her though. She had redeeming features!

Someone else may have already pointed this out - but I just finished watching Season 13 and they featured a knitting machine in one of the episodes! It made me think of you, and then I came on and saw you'd posted this video. Talk about perfect timing. I know season 13 is a long way off from season 4, but I hope you see it/got to see it and enjoy it! Also genuinely curious on your input on the knitting machine and how it's featured!

My grandmother used to make slippers with the checkerboard knit pattern like that tea cozy! If you do a tea cozy-along, I'm in cause I have one teapot that doesn't have a fitting tea cozy (though I'll be crocheting, my ability to knit never included figuring out how ot make my hands do purl so I just crochet)

I love call the midwife, but have to be prepared to cry, because they always make me cry! I love the knits, and trying to decide if someone actually knows how to knit. Also, I think the way Sister Monica Joan knits is of Irish derivation, as I have a friend from Ireland and she is the only other person I have seen work that way.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, I'm glad that the socks you made gave them much comfort during their treatments ❤. The tea cosy looks very similar to the stitch pattern in Joji Locatelli's Lightweight Hipster Shawl that I made over the summer, the pattern is done with a row of elongated stitches followed by a row where groups of the stitches are crossed and knitted together, with a few rows of knitting in between.

When Im knitting I often have one needle a size smaller than the other so the stiches slide off it easier. It can also assist with tension diffrences.

A tea cosy KAL... brilliant idea. Don't know how long it would take me to actually finish one (still knitting last year's stocking KAL from Arne and Carlos...nearly there😉) but finishing isn't really the point, it's the community feel as we're all creating something together that's important😊 love the CTM clips and I agree, that shop looks really cosy and very reminiscent of my childhood growing up in the UK in the 60s 🥰

maybe the mismatched knitting needles could mean that she does use different sizes of needles - i've heard the tip to use different sizes if you knit and purl stitches with different tensions to compensate for it

A lot of older women in NZ knit in "parlour style" - my grandma did as well. I knit like that when I knit on straight needles, but also put the right end under my armpit for extra speed lol (I think it becomes lever knitting at that point?)

I just received a 84-85 year old men's knitted cardigan. My grandmother made it for my Pop. He handed it to my Dad and now I have it. I'm not sure it was ever washed. Is it a good idea to wash it? Its seems to be in good shape and I think it might survived the washing. So sorry for your loss. I've lost 7 family member on the pass 4 years. 2020-2024. I know how hard it can be.

That cardigan looks like it’s a waffle stitch (a crochet stitch that I’ve seen/used). Not an expert by any means though.
