I’m genuinely interested, what makes it difficult to ski downhill? Is it the binding style? Do you fall out of your clips easily??

😞So sad that there aren't more of these videos. These are the most informative XCSki videos I've seen. Wish you guys were still around to help me learn to ski with no anterior cruciate ligament in either knee. Thanks for the great information and fun style!

Wow really helpful. I will never be able to do a pistol squat though 😦 as I’ve had a few lumbar fusions and lack some mobility there.

I see scientific measurements being taken but they are not referred to. Sad. Also the how-to isn't discussed quite enough, though "flat and narrow," "quiet upper body" and "there's room for fast cadence" are helpful. An even more helpful view, I think, is that our posture, and dynamics shd be the same as our other techniques (which are the same across skate and classic): forward fall, ankle flex, arm bend. In the old 1990's Norwegian Tapes that came to the US, herringbone was given indirect respect because it was used interchangeably with striding to illustrate good form. They didn't call it out, but this taught that we needed to treat herringbone the same as the other moves. It then becomes much more fun. Something else not mentioned: the steeper the climb the more time spent on it: improvement there gives big payoff. The herringbone is your friend! :) (I think the "skidaddle" skill for side-slopes, offcambers and gullies also should be taught. These are real world conditions if not YET part of WC courses. Look it up! It's not sidestepping.)

Do you mean " gears" by switching techniques on different terrain or picking up tempo as needed?

Hertz, Hz, units are cycles per second, not cycles per minute. Not a big deal but just thought I would mention it. Thanks for this useful video.

The flexibility of cross country boots, boot attachment and the skis themselves provide little control at speed and make slopes challenging that would be laughable on alpine skis. Perhaps speed improvements can be gained by modifying the equipment to be more rigid, in the direction of alpine ski touring gear, possibly compromising on performance on the flats.

Cool! I enjoy so much skiing down-hill! I guess I have built-up my confidence through the years. I sometime forget how scary it is to some people. My best advice is you either go downhill or you don’t! I never felt trying to go faster than what the hill would allow me to go but often when I was trying to slow down! My solution is that I do not slow down anymore when I ski downhill. I simply do an extra turn or more edging that will slow me down while staying in control. Snow Plow cause your legs to contract too much so not a good idea for a long down-hill. Snow plowing push the snow on the side this is not a very civic thing to do. So practice practice practice and go down as fast as you can that is the way to do it. On the bright side if you go down fast enough you won’t feel a thing if you fall. 🤔🤔🤔

In another video of Prof. Holmberg he said studies found Cross Country skiing to generally be 74% Aerobic and 26% Anaerobic. Im curious if theres any research that double poling requires a higher Anaerobic output than other techniques and what those percentages are.
