There are WAY too many grizzlies in Yellowstone. Teddy Roosevelt would be rolling over in his grave if he could see how wildlife biologists are allowing the bears to dictate humans use of the park. We dont need the bears to control the elk and bison herd populations. Man is more that capable of doing that. The bears and wolves cause horrific suffering and deaths to the other animals in the park. Letting bear management dictate the use of the park by humans has gotten out of control. People should be able to hike anywhere in the park without fear of running into a grizzly.

But i promise you won't be ao sure of yourself when a 700lb (or more) Grizzly starts eating you alive... WHY even put yourself in the path of wolves, bears etc there MUST be safer areas? Well, you're far more brave than i! Stay safe! Edit-I just realized heard the part where you're at Yellowstone. I realize that's a national Park, and it looks beautiful. Please be careful, still! 100% Coyote. Small nose and pointy nose. Can tell by nose, eyes, color, and size. Easily differentiated between a coyote and wolf, as I'm sure you know

Your really in the grizzlys way. He wanted nothing to do with you. He wanted get past you and he was a very tolerant polite grizzly. He was heading to find food im sure. You were in the way. I dont really understand why a person would even put theirselves in this position. I also think its timing and luck. All it takes is a mama bear with cubs or an old angemry hungry Grizzly and its over for a human. Not sure if people carry guns in yellowstone but I hope they dont because if the bear attacked its not their fault. They sleep there, eat there, mate there, and live there. If they were human they would get their mail delivered there so at the end of the day they are defneding themselves.

The most sceary part for me was from ca 15:50 - when you were behind the hill, yet very close to it. Knowing there was a bear out there and - last checked - going my direction I guess my heart would've been racing as fast as my feet at that moment.

This is difficult to interpolate when no distances are called out. It's a camera lens so we have no clue what ranges are involved. On a humorous anecdote, a friend and his father were paddling on the Ross River that runs into Hudson Bay. Very remote. He was taking photos of a moose that had entered the river on the far bank. He was so engrossed in looking at it only through the telephoto lens and for so long that he didn't think to lower the camera and when he did, he was shocked at the actual separating distance being next to nothing. They had seconds to get the hell out of there. It took both of them paddling like maniacs to make some separation because that moose was definitely trying to reach them at this point.

@@charlieross-BRM you have to do the same kind of thing during grizzly mating season. You don’t want to concentrate on the one that you see so much that you don’t notice the other grizzly behind you.

Hi Stan, great instinct with that little detour to the hill .. I guess I would have done the same thing, because the chances of being sandwiched isn't a great situation .. so, you did the only right thing trusting your instincts .. Always expect the unexpected .. by making that move you prevented putting yourself in danger .. unfortunately not everybody make those wise moves.

@@StanMills I'm sorry. I guess that I don't understand it is because I am not an American or grew up in a country where there are also life-threatening animals. Just like in Australia that people go surfing or swimming in the sea where white sharks also live. And I am most certainly not saying you should close anything down. Don't get me wrong. Your country and your customs and traditions. I just may think differently about it.

Yeh, you handled that really well! I would love to go to Montana, or Colorado, but I would have a hard time sleeping comfortably (in a tent) in Grizzly Country! Is it just me? Do you people camp out in open Bear Country, what precautions do you take, when sleeping out? Is it imperative that one build a pretty strong shelter? A gun isn’t even much help from what I’ve seen! With a charging Grizzly you really have to maintain your composure and yet act fast, -most people miss, and they usually catch people by surprise!
