Brandon Nimmo’s season was basically a tale of two halves, as his contact quality degraded significantly in the second half, likely connected to the plantar fasciitis. He rebounded somewhat in the postseason, despite being in obvious pain, which seems like a good sign. He was top 25 in fWAR among position players just before the All-Star Break, but he was below replacement after that. Through July 11, he had a .377 xwOBA (.354 actual) and .274 xBA (.254 actual), with a 92.7mph avgEV, 50.6% hard hit rate, and a 12.9% barrel rate. From July 12 on, his xwOBA plummeted nearly 100 points to .278 (.263 actual), and his xBA dropped to .206 (.188 actual), with a 90.9mph avgEV, 43.2 HH%, and dreadful 4.4% barrel rate. His BABIP also plummeted from .304 to .222. Weirdly, 7 of his 15 stolen bases came during this period. His K rate remained steady, and he still hit the ball fairly hard, but his ground ball rate increased, and the quality of his line drives and fly balls sharply decreased (lower EV, less optimal launch angles). He made significantly better contact in the postseason, resulting in an improved .344 xwOBA, but I suspect the obvious pain in his feet was still keeping him from fully getting into his legs, as his fly balls were of the high and lazy variety, though he hit line drives with authority.

@@brennanmayfield692 they debuted in the same season and are the same age. Julio leads him in basically every single statistic except slightly behind in AVG/SLG (still higher OPS tho). 15.9 bWAR vs 11.7, 130 OPS+ vs 116. Julio has 25+ more HR and more SB. In those three seasons MH2 has never had a WAR higher than Julio. It's really not close at all.

Idk I think it’s a bit early to put PCA in these convos. His defense is impeccable but he hasn’t proven anything in the MLB. If this is strictly based on potential then I can see it but I think this should be where he’s ranked if he swings the bat better this upcoming year!

PCA at 10, Edman at 8 would have easily made sense. Docking Edman for the ability to move around and play another premium position with a proven track record of hitting in the playoffs makes zero sense. Jack really confuses me lol.

Punishment ideas: 1. Whoever finishes with the worst record in the league this year, the loser has to bet that same team to win 80+ games the next season (2026) 2. Loser has to buy the lowest qualified hitter using WRC+ or OPS+ for the 2025 seasons authentic jersey and hang it in their background for the offseason

Merrill had 1323.1 innings in CF. Carroll had 672 CF / 645 RF. Carroll had a 107 wRC+ and Merrill had a 130 wRC+. Logic, there is none.

@phil40062 күн бұрын
@@kylestelter7550 I agree with you and would choose Machado over Riley but the wRC+ was way closer 116 vs 122. Also, Machado had 2 avgish years in a row. I think Manny can put up a 6-7 WAR season any given year though if he's healthy.
@kevinmcdowell112 күн бұрын
I'm with you on the fact that Carroll is probably a RF. Assuming they're playing the same position though I think Carroll over Merrill is totally reasonable. Carroll was playing hurt in the first half and put up a 79 OPS+, then put up a 147 OPS+ in the second half. And then you've got the stolen bases as well which heavily favor Carroll. I could see both sides but I don't think it's a crazy take either way.

Don't care if it's disrespectful to Mike Trout. When you can't even average 70 games a year over a 5 year stretch then he shouldn't even qualify to be apart of the top 10 centerfielder's. You're most important ability is you're availability and he is almost never available!! Trout needs to become a DH

Got a lil confused on the CF rankings because is Judge not a CF and Carroll a RF?

Aaron Boone came out and said Cody Bellinger was going to play center with Dominguez in left and Judge in right. Carroll played more games in center last year
@kevinmcdowell113 күн бұрын
@peterappel2704 81 games in CF vs 78 in RF for Carroll. Roster has Thomas, McCarthy, and Druw Jones on the way. I'd expect to see Carroll in RF more often than CF. Also using that logic jarren Duran should be on this list, he played way more CF than Carroll last year

Loser of the bet has to buy the winner a jersey (can be DH gate if you're not trying to drop $200 on this bet) of the winner's player. So Peter would buy Jack a Yankees Bellinger jersey, or Jack would buy Peter a Parker Meadows jersey.

I’m way more pessimistic than my fellow Mets fans about Mark Vientos. Not only does he have high chase and whiff rates, as Aram noted, but his zone contact rate is pretty atrocious (and he has absolutely no speed to help boost his BABIP). He also had insane HR-to-flyball luck last year, with a HR/FB over 30% that ranked third in MLB (min. 450 PA) behind Judge and Ohtani. I say “luck,” because while the quality of his fly balls was very good, it wasn’t nearly Judge/Ohtani-level good, and he had 6 more HRs than expected (4th-most). In general, he vastly outperformed his expected stats-which, like his projections, were nearly identical to Alonso’s, only with way more Ks-and from July 1 through the postseason, he struck out exactly one-third of the time.

Ah, reader’s vocab, spelling pronunciation, Booklish-TMW when you mispronounce a word because you’ve only ever read it, and maybe used it in writing, but have never knowingly heard it said, or looked at its pronunciation key in a dictionary. Classic examples include “epitome” (the epitome of this phenomenon, which has four syllables, not three) and “quay” (“kee,” not “kway”). For me, I think it was the word “row,” in the sense of a noisy fight, which rhymes with “now,” not “know.”
