Growing up in the kind of environment still has two choices. I was never interviewed for my background when we started filming. I grew up in a more watered down version of Baltimore in Washington DC. In the Martin Luther King Jr. riots, I lost my first friend at 7 years old when he ate his dads gun, left on the dresser. I would shoot my mothers 22. rifle out the back window. When she found out she moved it out of our rat infested apartment. I grew up shooting BB guns and .22s. We had riots where half my neighborhood was dead or in prison by the time I was 19. I didn't have the heart to be criminal in a big way, but grew up around Transsexuals, Transvestites, homosexuals, pedos, dope dealers, dope users, I had a butcher knife at my throat at 14. I was an altar boy so I saw dead bodies all the time in open caskets at funerals. I knew, pimps, prostitutes, murderers, people with guns, dynamite and accessories. We hung out in abandon buildings and we would brick busses from rooftops. It could have gone either way. Either you have the heart to do it or not. Not all of us lacked education. When we filmed The Wire, I was casted as Burrell's aid. I was with Frankie Faison and John Dohman for the better part of 3 years. David didn't know my background and I wasn't really given a chance. The guy who played Chris, was casted as different people and kept looking at the camera all the time until they coached him and gave him the role as Chris. We had at least 6 film crews at any time. I would be at the least 3 to 4 characters on The Wire, over 4 years. I even did stand in work for Frankie and worked with the crew that did the wire taps in the wire tap room where Sonia and the others worked. We filmed in a re-staged Sam's Club where we set up shop with the wire tap room and mayors office. We had a two story building built in there. I never got to flesh out my character but I still got paid well and worked constantly so much so I have to temporary relocate to Baltimore until we finished filming. I miss it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haDOk4GghtuVZ80

Invincible is a deconstruction. If you actually read the comics, Mark is a failure as a hero who loses every fight he’s in, helped a cynical villain destroy a portion of the population, then left and gave up, even Atom Eve states “Superheroes are shit” sorry but no it’s a deconstruction

That was some really thorough analysis & the observations with some of symbolic use of camera shots were good spots. Kinda surprised that you didn't point out the parallel with Colvin & Stringer both using the "get on with it motherf**ker" line, but otherwise. Great stuff!

Wire the writing of the charecters is flawless The 5th season can be fotgiven, because it's the last season!!! and at least they ended it right, and its not even bad, its the other seasons being so good.

There is also the fact that The Boys is about the celebrity and not necessarily the superhero. It is more about how celebrity culture can corrupt a person rather than a deconstruction of superhero media. Superpowers, as you stated in your video, is an allegory for their influence and how they can misuse it for their own twisted gain

I think there is also a deeper connection between chris and marlo, the way chris brutally killed the rapist(michael's father) I think chris may have been s3xually assulted, and marlo as well, possibly by the same individual or individuals, thats why they share such a tight bond.

I know he was a killer but he genuinely cared for and defended Michael at every opportunity. I’m glad he went to prison but I’m equally as glad he survived. In the show my heart broke for Dukie more than anyone else. He was more deserving of having Namond’s life with Colvin. The kid had no one & he was so lovely & intelligent. Truly heartbreaking.

Invincible is one of my favorite comics because it is a genuine superhero story that is shows the characters having consequences for their actions, doesn't retcon past events, and follows the same vein as Spider-Man where being a superhero doesn't solve one's problems, only adds to them. The Boys comic, on the other hand, shows a cynical world where superheroes are corporate products and the worst outcome is not just possible, but a guarantee. The Boys themselves are sometimes no better than the superheroes. And in the comic, they are even worse than the show. The Boys TV show, takes the potential in the story and makes it more palatable, ergo better. The Invincible TV show, being produced by some of the same people who produced The Boys: Amazon, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg, was infused with some of the same cynical feeling that The Boys TV show had, which totally misses the point of the comic. In the Invincible comic, when violence happens, it hardly ever happens to civilians. The heroes are typically the ones who get the most violent things happen to them. In the Invincible TV show, they relish the violence against civilians. People think Man of Steel was too casual with its civilian deaths, Invincible actively seeks it out and delights in how much carnage it can unleash against regular people.

I feel like both are, just different types of a psychopath. Todd is the more realistic one, he's simply blatantly different from other people, entirely cold-blooded. Lalo is a more traditional depiction of a psychopath (aka what ppl imagine a psychopath to be), charming, yada-yada. One could argue Lalo is a sociopath (so APSD instead of psychopathy) but I don't recall him being hot-headed enough to be one.

Honestly, Invincible has more in common with Dragon Ball Z than The Boys lol. The Viltrumites are pretty much saiyans without Frieza, and Mark is almost like Gohan. People even get brought back to life multiple times thanks to Eve or things like The Immortal.
