Slim was actually the smartest and most solid on the show.

You only think Stringer is smart during your first watch, because they present him as the intellectual so that's what's we remember long term. But you rewatch and realize just how bad a decision maker he was. He thought reading chapter 1 of intro to macroeconomics made him Warren Buffett

To be fair, Stringer was running the drug trade across a large part of the city, he was managing "legitimate" businesses to launder the drug money, he was dealing with lawyers and helping the guys that get arrested plea deals or lighter sentences and making sure they don't snitch, he was trying to bribe politicians and start a real estate company, and he was going to college in his free time. He was trying to do way too much and missed some important details.

Stringer is the epitome of a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing He despises the game so he gets outplayed by those in it But not smart enough to exist in the high flying world He was only useful because he had essentially an unlimited resource pool that he could wash through legitimate endeavours I think we only think he’s great to begin with because he represents what we all want - play in the game, get rich and get out Avon summed him up perfectly - a man with no country War comes wants to go straight, gets played want to go gangland

Stringer is not dumb, he is actually more than very capable. The thing is, he is not a leader. He is the administrative type; the guy in charge of accounting and shit. He is a numbers guy not a people person. He can’t inspire Men because he doesn’t know how to read the room. Should not be the head of an organization because he is not a good long term strategist and a bit too arrogant.

True he wasn’t as smart as we think. However, under Avon’s leadership as a #2, he was pretty sharp.

Stringer in season 1 was brilliant but he started transitioning into a fool in season 2 and then season 3 was his straight decline

I’m surprised you didn’t mention Stringer agreeing to kill Orlando. That was my first sign of Stringer not being as smart as he thought. Also, Stringer talking about Product and Territory was somewhat right. Bodie proved that in season 4 when he turned that off brand corner he had into a major corner because of the good product Slim was giving him.

String was not smart at all. He tried to run a drug empire like it was a community college business class.

He comes off as one of those pathetic "Alphas" trying to refine himself with a book and coffee. He was lost in himself. You can't learn too much that way. I think that was the point tho.

I don't think Stringer was trying to set up Slim or "killing two birds with one stone". A: Slim was not no.2. Stringer still was B: It wasn't about getting Slim arrested. Stringer just couldn't handle being played like a fiddle and went back to his gangster roots when it didn't go his way, not realizing how stupid it would be to kill a state senator

I think Stringer is smart, he has a knack for knowing how to manipulate but it's balanced out with Stringer's hubris. Stringer's biggest problem is that he always thinks he is the smartest in the room, and he also wants to maintain that facade to himself that he is the smartest in room & doesn't seekout people who are well versed. That's something that gave Marlo an edge over String. I ultimately think that part of the reason String got played so bad by Clay, is that he underestimated him, because he thought he was smarter than Clay, that Clay is just small minded in wanting money, not thinking that Clay is out to exploit him. I think String wants to be an intellectual, and in some ways he is, but his ego of needing to always been seen as he the intellectual ironically stunts him from success, part of being able to read the writing on the wall, and being intelligent is being aware, & secure enough to admit that you don't know enough about about a thing, to be an expert on it. But in order for String to admit that, it would crack that chip on his shoulder, that he uses to flex & intimidate to those he believes he is superior too.

There are a shitload of Stringer Bells within the corporate world, believing in their own presentation, the swagger and the attitude, which low level employees are often gaslit by. Falsely tinking that such man is powered by informations that would fly way over their heads. But it is nothing but a smoke screen. As soon as a low level worker like Poot poked a hole in String's reasoning, String quickly showed what cloth he really was made of: Ghetto rag. Stringer clearly wasn't a people's person like Joe or Avon, not ruthless enough like Marlo and not experimented and mature enough to swim with sharks like Clay Davis or deal properly with scammers like Chunky Coates. He wasn't even as perceptive as Slim Charles or even Poot. He had the potential and the will but none of it came to fruition. The money he was losing to Clay Davis was his actual education fee. If he didn't die prematurely , maybe he would've become who he really wanted to be eventually. Which probabbly would've cost him millions.

I genuinely think Prop Joe wanted the Co-Op to work as he stated. I don’t think it was a con, he wanted the money without the extra work and as long as he was the center of the co-op he was good.

Prop Joe was a genius. Until for no apparent reason he introduced Marlo to the Greeks. It didn’t ring true. Poor writing.

A very a poor decision on Joe part but remember he made that move to relax Marlo on talking to Cheese he wasn’t just protecting his nephew but he couldn’t let be known that he set the robbery of the shipment with Omar because if he didn’t give up the shipment Omar was going to tell Marlo all the devious things Joe did behind Marlo back. He thought the Greeks wasn’t going to like Marlo for how uncivilized Marlo was but what he didn’t factor in was the robbery of the shipment made the Greeks uneasy about having someone who isn’t feared the way Marlo is. All of Joe genius manipulation’s finally came home to roost

Introducing Marlo to the Greeks wasn't the mistake since he basically had to do it to keep the co-op running smooth. His mistake was all the stuff he did after that. Introducing him to Levy, showing him how to wash his money. In Joe's words he tried to "civilize this mf" and it got him killed. Greeks wouldn't even talk to him when he was just another gangster with a pile of cash. But they ok'd putting Joe down when they saw he had his ducks in a row

Avon eventually told him to go to Prop Joe and run it how you see fit the only problem with that was with Marlo only thing prop joe did was distance him the beef between Brother and Omar
