Holy Moly! The trade-offs were flawless and sounded like a single mind!

One can hear why she is compared with her friend Carmen Macrae, though her timbre is more woody and a bit darker (both of them obviously great singers), beautiful phrasing and intonation, just lovely. And great piano as well.

You can tell that Terry Gibbs was a great band leader - his group played like a well-oiled machine and had a lot of fun. Reminded me a little of Louis Prima's act. And he wasn't afraid to let Terry Pollard shine. Love that Steve Allen sat in on piano. Here's another TS episode where Johnny helps out Pete Fountain and his band, and the TS band. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYG8YZ-VqqqJgs0&start_radio=1&rv=T8z6fwq4ZSE

Aside from the fact that Steve Lawrence always looked like he had the mumps -- those cheeks! -- he and Eydie were fantastic singers and entertainers who brightened every stage! And what a gem this program is!

The list of arrangers on these in incredible-- one after another starting with Marty Paitch, whose Opus One arrangement was picked up by Thilo Wolf. Lots of Thilo Wolf (a German big band) on KZbin. Thoise full concerts are worth finding. Recommended . Liked.

Would love to have seen McCartney and Lennon on the show. It's not exactly a rock n roll atmosphere but it is about music. They could have given insight into their form of collaboration.

Caught and captured forever...ah, Terry continued superbly until the sun set on him and that music lives on. What a lineup, the best of the west coast players, and the drummer.. from New England Ron, you've always do the best on radio, kTV and in person...I miss our conce a year Kenton special. Carry on for a 100 years...Cent" anni!

TG had a fire breathing band. Every arrangement was spectacular and this one by Al Cohn is one of the best. Many of these gents were also in the original band in '58. Frankie Capp also had a heck of a group with Nat Pierce a few years after this that was a hellaciously swinging group also!

"Time Being" should have been picked in the Bill Holman repertory. I heard the Buddy Rich Big Band version of that in that 1971 recording. Very difficult big band number. It seems like this should be "the John Coltrane's "Giant Steps" of big band music selections." It is difficult to play or perform but I like listening to it.

Everybody playing their lights out! Here's to Willis. Hope he had a few forgotten arrangements stuck in drawers somewhere. Even his everyday stuff was way better than most what gets recorded!
