I have watched many videos that speculate about how Rembrandt achieved that impasto texture, And believe me when I say, I have expended a lot of paint trying to achieve what you just achieved with logical brush work.

Is it different from lead oil ground , in qualities and drying time ..also I always wondered why we should wait at least 6 months till the ground is fully dry...as most artists say ? Can't be considered as an ordinary painting layer and to be touch dry only ? Or that period is related to lead grounds only as I guess to adhere to fat over lean rule ..as lead white not chalk take much time to cure ?? ..iam always confused about that specific point ...thank you so much for your great content 🙏

Hi, what about when you thin the oil down with solvent? Like turpentine? Is that making the paint even leaner? And could you let me know if using liquin (fast drying medium) is making the paint fatter? I get so confused. When I paint I use just solvent and liquin but I get confused on the order.

Benefits of oil ground: 1. Oil ground serves as a protective barrier between your paint and sized linen. 2. You can scrape the surface harshly to enhance layers & transparency without needing to worry about damaging the canvas. 3. The slick and smooth surface makes starting a painting quick and easy. The brush will glide across the canvas without the canvas ‘absorbing’ your color or sinking in. 4. The ground is colored to make achieving life like results as simple as can be. 5. Having mid tones already filled in means you can immediately begin to paint shadows and highlights. 6. Having this preparation allows you to intentionally leave transparency in your paint - knowing that it will support you on the base level. 7. Having the color on the canvas from the beginning will set the mood of your painting and create relative contrast.

Also, u can put a texture under ur paper. As u work in mass (sculpting through adding/subtracting pigment) it will create natural abstraction on the drawing surface.

Do you ever have issues with your ferrules separating from your handles?
@NicThurman
@NicThurman 7 күн бұрын
I’ve not had any issues but I think it’s because I’m painting daily, have good quality brushes, and I’m soaking them in linseed oil… the way you paint also matters. Being less rough on the brush means less friction and damage to it

I want to make a comment about your work because I appreciate your videos; however, the elephant in the room cannot be ignored. YOU CUT YOUR HAIR. I'm super bummed since it gave your profile the magnificent aura reminiscent of the images found in oil paintings. But if it was time, then it was time. I hope you like it and enjoy the freedom of the short layers :) I once cut my hair from the same length you had (if you straightened it) and went to a pixie cut. My neck decompressed for 3 days 😂. I missed it immensely, but I really hope you enjoy it. Thank you for the content and the teachings!

For health reasons I need to use Water Mixable oils (Cobra by Royal Talens). I’ve used the Zorn Palette before. For this demo can I use Pyrrole red, yellow ochre, titanium white and ivory or lamp black. I can’t seem to locate Mars Black. Also I can use up to 30% regular oil paint without losing the water mixable quality. P.S. I liked this so much, I joined your Patreon page right away. You are a very clear teacher.

Yeah you know whose drawings didn’t feel alive? Leonardo. His use of lines really destroyed the effect of life and beauty. Your drawings, on the other hand, timid for fear of your medium, are so alive they seem to wish for death.

Can you also make a video on how to use a black paint properly😅😅... Most of the time when I use black colour it turns out to be too black that it doesn't go with the painting. So please make a video on how to balck color that blends perfectly. A response will be appreciated. Thank u😊

Use chromatic blacks. Mix a little blue for a cool black, and a little umber for a warm black. Don’t be afraid to saturate. It’ll do wonders
