I'm appalled by the 2nd worst place but at the same time, I am NOT surprised. Considering I've not only been to Malaysia - but I have worked there at an international school for around 6 months. Malaysia is a gorgeous country, and the people I worked with were actually very kind (and yes, some were actually gay/lesbian working there too. The ones I knew of moved at the end of 2019 due to laws changing). I'd love to go back, but only when things change as it is a beautiful country.

Colorado is pretty cool but keep in mind if you're planning on visiting that it's literally difficult to breathe for some people who come here.

My relative, Jean-Claude Hollerich, is currently a cardinal in the running to become the next Pope. He is very progressive (in the standards of fanatic Christians) and believes that gay marriage should be accepted. I hope that, should he become the Pope, it will help change the minds of many people who use religion as an excuse for homophobia. He's a very kind man, at least based on the one time I met him, and everything I've read about him makes me hopeful. Though, knowing many people, it won't change anything even if the literal Pope says what they believe is wrong.

Not me, just waiting for my state to show up on this list. Back when I went to college for the first time, I'd moved from Sevierville to Murfreesboro, and had a (positive) culture shock from the move based off of how progressive and open it was comparatively speaking in my life.... Murfreesboro still leans red. That's how red it is in the eastern part of the state. And I absolutely love Dolly. I have her to thank for quite a few things, including literacy. But note that the people in Sevier County are incredibly -ist you cant think of if you're not a straight, white, Christian cis man. We aren't just talking intolerance, They will barely tolerate you long enough to get your money as a tourist, and god forbid you live there. Even if you are the former, they do not like outsiders moving there and you will not have any sort of political voice. Source: grew up there as a first generation person born there, got thrown in front of a car for the appearance of being lesbian, and keeps tabs ( Seymour had a shop that got popped on social media for refusing service to a black person. )

Queer Californian here! I absolutely love living in a state that's as progressive as this one. I live in SoCal, SGV area. I've lived here my whole life. The only things I've disliked about living here is the ridiculous high cost of living, high crime, and unbearably hot summers. We had a recent heat wave that maxed out at around 116 degrees. 😩 I'm glad that's over. With all the uncertainty of the future of queer rights and, hell, even women's rights, i can't even begin to tell you how safe i feel living here. It's like a security blanket. 🌈🤙 But, yeah, unless you're rich, no one can afford to live in the populated cities. My fiance and I live in a nice 1b1b which is $1500/mo. 😭 I make $25.19/hr and he makes $23.25/hr. Might seem like a lot, but it doesn't even come close to covering the cost of everything you need to pay for (rent, utilities, gas, insurance, food, clothing, transportation, medical needs, emergencies, internet, cell phone bill, etc). That's why people have been leaving in mass since the pandemic. Oddly enough, the people who left for Texas regret it, lol. Though i can imagine CA is gonna see a massive increase over the coming months. If any fellow queer people want to live here, DO NOT do so alone. You can't afford it. Hard truth, but necessary. Don't move out here unless you have roommates to help with rent and utilities. Also, please keep in mind that the higher the crime rate, the lower the rent will be. It's unfortunate that "safer" cities are more expensive, but thems the breaks. The city i live in has a low violent crime rate, bit a high property theft rate, like porch pirates. Pick and choose your battles. Rent has shot way the hell up ever since the pandemic ended. We're super lucky our landlord hasn't raised our rent. To summarize: only plan to move out here if you have people you can share tent with. If you don't, you'll be another statistic on the streets. Thankfully, Newsom said he's gonna have affordable homes and apartments built soon. Probably more Section 8.

As a Trans woman in Texas looking to move, this was a good video to see in my suggestions. I’ve been lucky so far because of how close to Austin I am, but I have no intention of staying in the south. Things are only gonna get worse, and I worry every day that my transition will get dead stopped by some stupid law or policy.

connecticut resident here. although the state is pretty nice for queer people, there are quite a few bad spots for other marginalized groups (financially, job inequalities, education, etc,). it really depends on the area if you want to feel safe.

I grew up in Connecticut, and currently live here now, but also lived in Seattle for 3 years. Connecticut is a very accepting place for LGBTQ+ people, but I will say that Seattle is a place that I find is more accepting having lived there, and would highly recommend anyone moving here or looking to move out of a backwards state to look at Seattle especially.

Imagine being against two consenting adults who love each other being together openly, getting married, adopting children, etc. It makes zero sense. Same sex couples on average have higher incomes and raise children with better outcomes than heterosexual couples.
