For me, Thailand is the most liberal country for LGBTQ+ people. why First, Thailand is a strong Buddhist country, and being gay is not a sin but as a result of your karma from a past life, so it doesn't matter to others. Second, Thai dramas present a lot of LGBTQ+ relationships, and ladyboys are common, so society is familiar with and accepts it. There are many LGBTQ+ role models, like celebrities, politicians, and teachers anf so on. Most importantly, same-sex marriage will be legalized very soon. Thailand is like a Disneyland for LGBTQ+ folks with its vibrant vibe, friendly gay scene, and endless fun. haha

I agree with your listings. But consider how in the Philippines, LGBTQ presence is nationwide. There is substantial queer representations in Television, Films & other social/entertainment venues. There is even a transgendered Congresswoman. There are thriving gay scenes, not only in the Urban areas but in provinces as well, with every town, small & large hold gay pageants annually - often sponsored by the local municipal government. Though more pro LGBTQ laws are needed, there are LGBTQ rights Bills/ Laws in place. The country is well known in tourism to be accepting & friendly to both local & foreign tourists. So far there have yet reports/posts of foreign tourists , straight & queer that have been victims of harassments/ crimes & if there are, it's very likely isolated given that the country is ranked highest in Asia in social media usage & is most possibly reported/posted. Immersing with the populace is not as difficult since even with some locals speaking broken english, communication is much less challenging. With around 7,100 islands, there are more tourist beaches & water sports destinations to cater to both high end & budget preferences than any of the top 10 countries on your list. So where does the Philippines stand in your list?
@QueerKingdomOfficial
@QueerKingdomOfficial 11 күн бұрын
Very good points! 😊 Unfortunately, the crime rates compared to other countries on the list had it placing lower for this particular list on “safe queer travel”despite its great LGBTQ rights by Asian standards. I would have to check but I think it would have somewhere around 15th.

I agree that the Philippines should be in the list. Gay freedom/visibilty is far better than most countries on the list. Most crime are related to drugs. Rarely ive heard a gay tourist become a victim of crime. Should have use gay crime than general crime rate. And with the openness of a country and acceptance with gay the lesser the chance crime will happen. Id rather be in the Philippines than go to other country on the list that has no acceptance or openness with gay people because chances of becoming a victim of hate crime is higher

As someone who lives in Japan and often visits Korea and Taiwan. I can say personally that I have never felt in danger cause of my sexual orientation in any of these countries. In Japan, PDA isn't something most people do so if you do it with your partner, they might not look at you cause you are LGBTQ but just cause it's not common. Though in most instances (espcially in Tokyo) people just dont care what others are doing. I personally dont unless they are being distruptive.

I love the Philippines but it makes sense that it is not on the list. The crime is very high compared to the countries listed here and honestly when it comes to tourism general safety and queer rights are equally important. I don’t want to have to “be careful” when I travel. I want to relax. To walk down whatever street I want to at night, to stay in whatever neighborhood I want, to leave my expensive phone at the beach and not worry it will be stollen while I swim etc. So im very grateful for this safety focused list man. This is by far my favorite gay related channel.

Nepal should be at higher rank but i do understand the overall view , am a queer man from Nepal . we have always been respectful towards trans people from the ancient times but only in 2007 we legally recognized them that day onward , i remember in middle school we were educated about sexuality and gender identity and expression and its still taught in school today. in nepal they recently legalized same sex marriage we are moving slowly but steadily. also living in nepal i have never felt unsafe maybe because i am a man but its literally one most safest country for women in south asia and asia in general . also thank you for this informative video. edit : same sex marriage between two women from chitwan Nepal can be taken as example if the first queer marriage cant .

It really is wonderful to see how far Nepal has come in recent years and its historical ancient acceptance of diverse gender identities! Thank you for your comment! 😊 From my research it seems that while a handful of queer marriages have taken place in Nepal and been backed by various government institutions, there still has not been a clear law passed that explicitly makes same sex marriage accessible in every situation. But I imagine that government will be passing such a bill this year and making it all totally official in light of the special cases where same sex marriages have been approved already! It’s wonderful to see! 💯 🇳🇵🏳️‍🌈

For travel yes. But not for living here. It’s now enshrined in our laws that LGBTQ cannot marry legally. Gay couples are also not allowed to buy govt apartments (where 90% the people live). So superficially, our govt gives a veneer of LGBTQ acceptance, but if you delve deeper, LGBTQ has absolutely NO legal rights.

Unfortunately, India is far from the top 10 and it’s easy to understand why when it is compared to the other countries on this list based on the metrics laid out in the video. Radical Islamists in parts of the country are one reason for this, as well as crime against women and minorities, and theft of personal belongings being prevalent according to the statistics we are using today. Also social unrest + international disputes with Pakistan and China add to India’s lower overall safety scores. Additionally it has only been legal to be gay in India since 2018 and many people are still quite intolerant compared to the countries on this list.

@QueerKingdomOfficial
@QueerKingdomOfficial 4 күн бұрын
By LGBTQ rights Israel is excellent and in the top 5 (forget exactly, I think it was 3rd or 4th) but by safety it was quite far down due to risk of terrorism and international conflicts which are taken into account and why Thailand was 10th instead of like 3rd as they are fighting Islamic insurgents in the south of their own country. I think a balance between queer rights and general safety is useful because queer people are just people at the end of the day so I want to encourage people to go to places where I feel they will be generally safe in all respects. I personally would love to visit Israel as soon as this war situation clams down.

According to the bill that decriminalize being gay it is banned, to make the bigots happy. Whether it is an effective ban is a different question but the government themselves labeled it as a ban.
