Sorry for more questions. Will both sets c and b cover most all cuts im needing for characters/heads and smaller carvings??? I think number 9 is in other set too ? I do wish they had a freakin bent V . Easier to get in areas. I wondered if it’s better to buy ur set then buy 5 extra separate specific tools that could cover for my needs noted? Thank u for ur help !! I sure need it cause it’s impossible to find answers to what I sent.
@halflingcarvings

I think this set will cover you for most types of small-medium size carvings. I also think it’s a great idea to supplement a set like this one with individual tools that compliment your particular style/preferences. I’d advise against buying multiple sets at once, because there’s often too much overlap/repetition for the purchases to be worth it. Also, I’d only purchase something like this if you’ve been carving for a while with a few basic tools. A knife, v-tool, and gouge is all you really need starting out. After carving with those tools, you’ll be able to make a better decision as to which tools you’ll want going forward. That being said, if a beginner wanted to start off with this set, I don’t think they’d regret owning them. Hope this helps!

I need them for 6 inch character carving also small to medium size woodspirits in walking sticks and need to know the best two sets out there if I’m forced to only get two. ? Thank you friend

What’s the steel on this one ☝🏼 compared to let’s say flex cut or drake ?

Helvie and Drake have great knives, but there are a bunch of options that are more than sufficient. Beavercraft is about as cheap as I’d go. If you want something with better quality but not super expensive, go with Flexcut. Both of those options are widely available. Hope this helps!

What common steels is their steel comparable to? A2? 1075? 1095? O1?
@halflingcarvings
@halflingcarvings 5 ай бұрын
Not sure. From what I googled it’s some sort of high-alloy steel. I really don’t know much about steel types. They are very sharp and hold an edge well, so that’s all I really care about when it comes to steel 🤷‍♂️ hope that helps
@woodrocksandplantsandstuff721
@woodrocksandplantsandstuff721 4 ай бұрын
It’s their own alloy, not enough chromium for corrosion resistance but enough to toughen and add to the edge retention. Id compare it to o1.

Great video, thanks. I agree that it being hard to open and close the blades is good. Without a lock, it is safer. I think it is good for at least one of Flexcuts Carving Jasks to be nonlocking. This way people who live in countries or cities the have made any knife locking illegal can still own and us one of these awesome knives. I have one of each of the Flexcut Carving Jasks except the 4 bladed regular Carving Jack and this 2 bladed nonlocking Carving Jack. Only because it is redundant and has nothing to do with lack of a lock. I have the Tri-Jack and the 1 bladed detailing Jackand I believe that covers the blades on this knife. I prefer a locking blade and glad I can make the choice. Been wanting the spoonjack and have been waiting until now. I am glad I did wait until now because now the spoonjack has 4 blades with the Pelican blade being part of the new upgraded Spoonjack 2.0 model. Very happy with quality and functionality of the Flexcut Carving Jack line of pocket knife / 🔪 tools.

Never considered the legality of locking blades, so that’s a good point to consider for people it applies to! Very happy with the Whittlin’ Jack, but my Carving Jack 2.0 has quickly become my favorite folder. Not great for carrying around in your pocket because it’s bulky, but it’s fantastic for taking on trips or for carving in the backyard.

I just got one of these for 12 dollars on Amazon. The flex cuts are around 145. For 12 bucks i cant imagine this not being okay for throwing in a kit to whittle while camping etc. not a tool for pros, just something for fun.
@halflingcarvings
@halflingcarvings 7 ай бұрын
Yeah, they’re in completely different price ranges. The biggest issue I have with it is how dull the knife comes. I think it has a high probability of turning people off from carving before they have a chance to know if they enjoy it. I think going with an affordable standard knife and learning how to whittle is a much better option. That being said, it can be fixed and made usable with some sharpening.
