Hi no not really, I’ve built collections for friends, but other than that have rather a lot of stuff of my own to get done, with work on the Battle of Camperdown fleets about to conclude. As an aide for others to have a go at building these models I have put together several rigging tutorials here on KZbin and PDFs on the blog and the blog provides plenty of examples for painting the ships, and I will answer queries there if necessary. JJ where is this?? And how did you like shooting the M-16? When I was in the US Army the venerable M-16A1 Battle Rifle was my primary weapon. I also carried an M-1911A2 as sidearm. Right now I have an AR15- Semi-auto rifle that is properly set up with a combination of flip up iron sights, a laser reticle Scope w/a Night vision option, plus a pass thru Red/Green Dot reticle sight, and a Red/Green targeting laser. The popup site, Pass thru Reticle and targeting laser are all zeroed in with each other. The Scope is zeroed out to 300 Meters.

This was myself and my son Will on a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels near Saigon on a holiday to Vietnam in 2016 with a visit to the range their where you can fire weapons from the Vietnam War which was quite an experience. I found the M-16 a dream to fire and a lot easier to handle than the old Lee-Enfield.303 we use to use in the Air Cadets when I was a lad. I attach a link to the blog with the post covering this visit, part of a series of posts entitled Vietnam 2016 which you can find in the labels on the right column if you’re interested. jjwargames.blogspot.com/2016/06/vietnam-2016-war-museums-ho-chi-minh.html

That's pretty awesome that they do that. Re: the Lee-Enfield .303. A good friend of mine has one. Well two, one is in the original furniture and as close to original. The other is currently a work in progress. The original furniture of that one was a total mess. Wood split in several places. It was ugly. So, what he is doing is "Sporterizing" it. He has a custom Resin/Plastic stock but with a more modern look to it. His intention is to also mount a long range modern scope on it as well. He has everything to get it done. Just lacking the time. I had the opportunity to shoot his working Lee-Enfield at the local Gun range a few times. If you are not used to it, it will give your shoulder a real work out. I enjoyed shooting it. To me it was like shooting my dad's (Later mine) 30.06 Bolt action Hunting rifle.@@JJsWargames

L❤VE the Video! A couple of questions. Have you ever done a modification of the 5th Rate Frigate at all? If so, what did you do? Lengthen it? Shorten it? Second, I'm going to do this mod for the Flush deck sloop, but on the Small Brig, I'm thinking of just using the Mizzen mast only and only mounting the tops'le. I have some extra Larger Jib sails that I was thinking of using for the Jibs on the Small Brig. Thoughts? I have a couple of scenarios in mind where the small Brigs are courier/mail ships with important orders/Person(s) aboard with them. The mission of the opposing fleet is to try and intercept/board/capture this person/orders.
@JJsWargames
@JJsWargames 8 ай бұрын
Hi and thank you. No I haven’t modified the frigate, and with other options available from Warlord of smaller frigates and sloops am unlikely to do that now, with this mod very much a stop gap until other models became available. I’m assuming you are thinking of converting the small brig that I show which is made from the remaining pieces left over from the cutting process. I think the length of the deck might be very difficult to accommodate three masts on, with the sloop illustrated pretty well at the limit for such a conversion and even then it is not a great conversion with not a lot of space between the mast to allow the yards to be reversed when needing to heave to. Still I wish you all the best with your project and glad you found the video helpful. Cheers JJ

Kiss Me Hardy is a very granular way to play Trafalgar, giving lots of detailed drama that needs time to play which is why two days to play this game was perfect. I may well come back to this battle, and others I nave in mind, using a different set of rules that presents the battle in a different way. That said it will still be using 1:700 models in the Grand Manner,

JJ what size thread are you using for your stays and running rigging?
@JJsWargames
@JJsWargames 11 ай бұрын
Hi Daniel, the threads I use are the stuff supplied with the Warlord kits for the standing rigging except for the main stay that runs from the mainmast to the foremast and the base of the bowsprit. This was a heavier load supporting stay and I use a a thicker black thread, Guttermann extra strong thread col. 000 and for the running rigging you want a brown thread as the hemp of the rope wasn't tarred. I use Gutterman col. 209. I hope that is of help. JJ

Yes indeed, I always varnish to lock down my paint work and to better marry the final paint job together. I also add a little varnish at the end to take away any shine created by the superglue on rigging anchor points and on the spritsails. Hi Christian, oh dear, you have had a learning curve! It’s really a challenge how to put these tutorials together when deciding what to leave in and what to leave out and the best, most concise, but detailed explanations of what it is you are doing, in the hope that you are making sense. I’m sorry you found my explanation confusing, but glad you got there in the end, and it least it was only a brig you were cutting up, so hopefully not an expensive mistake. I would recommend that a look at the corresponding blog post is worth checking out if you are unsure of anything in future, and you can always ask me to clear up any uncertainty by leaving a message on the blog contact form and I can get back to you. These models are some of the best wargame models available at this type of scale with plenty of scope to modify and scratch build with as you will find examples of on the blog JJ’s Wargames where I have shown how to build sloops, large and small third rates etc. As far as the sails, these are card which have been designed by the great military artist Peter Dennis in a range of colours and can be arrayed as you want or left off and simply replaced with model putty to create a furled look at anchor. As I say plenty of scope for mods. Cheers JJ
