TMF was a weird channel. Sure, it aired musical content, but also stuff for the kids like Thomas and Friends and The Tidings? That never made sense. I think someone said it was part of a deal with another company, I can't remember. Either way, weird... Oh yeah, and Merry Christmas! I knew I was forgetting something 🤣

@@ihavebeenben Pokemon was the only cartoon shown that day. The episode was Attack of the Prehistoric Pokemon. One of my favourites. I might upload the full thing to Archive at some point, as it does read out viewers emails during the credits and start of part 2, so it's a shame to lose that.

Back when ITV1 used to have 4:3 variations of programme sponsor stings during archived programming. They stopped doing this in 2012.

I remember getting that WWTBAM 10th Anniversary game. They commented on it having old episode clips that haven't been seen in a decade or so. This was before Challenge started rerunning them all. Boy, was I disappointed. 10 second clips at most... and even beyond that, it's not even a remotely good DVD game. Very underwhelming compared to the 4th one that introduced the categories and picture questions...

I had that picture edition one. Most of those DVD games weren't very good, but always enjoyed the Millionaire ones as it lent itself well to the format, so shame the 10th anniversary one wasn't so good. I suppose that would've been the last one they did.

@@HalfbrickVHS I think it was the last actually. The mid/late-2000s were when DVD games were the most popular. My uncle had Bullseye, I had that broken Little Britain game. It was fun until it nearly always softlocked in the final round. The Countdown game they put out in 2006 with Des Lynam? I played that A LOT... I wasn't very good at it, but it was a lot of fun 🤣

These days, ITV3 usually shows their archived 4:3 programming in pillarbox on a 16:9 frame on their SD feed, they have stopped using the 4:3 format.

Why was Family Guy presented in 14:9 pillarbox as opposed to 4:3 cut-out mode?

From what I recall, on the Sky/Freesat feed of BBC Three, Family Guy was presented as full 4:3 with the picture properly filling the whole screen on a 4:3 TV (although it would appear as stretched if you were watching on a widescreen TV). It's just on the Freeview feed of BBC Three where it was presented as pillarboxed. That seems to have persisted with many other shows in 4:3 that aired on BBC Three, where it would fill the whole screen on Sky/Freesat, but be pillarboxed on Freeview, no idea why this discrepancy happened though.

@@superlegendary Some Freeview decoders support BBC's 4:3 cut-out mode when an older black and white movie airs on BBC2 and Family Guy airs on BBC3 and some don't. They were played out at the same transmission facility, Red Bee Broadcast Centre, White City. BBC1 and BBC2's analogue support 4:3 cut-out mode for sporting coverage (i.e. Wimbledon) until its switch-off in 2012.

on the BBC 2 and BBC Three airings the Family Guy credits had The had a Bbc website comedy site and later Family Guy on screen I think this continued until about season 10. also the first seven Seasons was in Pal speed but around season 8 or 9 they went Pal pitch but when the show was shown on ITV2 the old episodes were now in Pal pitch instead of Pal speed.
