New sub sent over by Brian - LCS. I have a very large comic book collection (Marvel), but generally only show sports cards on my channel. However, I wanted to add a few channels like yours to my sub list.

I enjoy Challengers Of The Unknown but the title doesn't seem to have found an audience in the last few decades despite several varied takes on the team. On your recommendation David I've ordered Stan's "Amazing Fantastic Incredible", as a bonus I got the hardcover for the paperback price. I'm really looking forward to reading this one.

You are spot on KZbin.com/@shadowman8786, it was 1976! I think the liveshow caused me to have a brain fart at that point, I really should have that dated seared into my brain given how much of a Captain Britain fan I am. Still Only 35c No Prize is on its way to you for that pickup (send me a note via Instagram and I'll arrange it).

Good research. I always thought the GS Spider-man issues looked rushed and not up to par with the ASM books at the time. Someone sold the color guide art for Super-Giant Spider-man #1 a few years back, featuring 100 pages for 60 cents. Same cover more or less as GS SM 1.

The problem with comic book collecting goals is that they're mostly easy to achieve if you have a computer and money. Frankly, it's just shopping. UNLESS, you do restrict yourself to making purchases "in the wild," in which case it would indeed be challenging, especially in Australia! Good luck, and Happy New Year.
@StillOnly35c
@StillOnly35c 5 күн бұрын
Thanks youtube.com/@TT-fq7pl! You are spot on, it's easy to grab a copy online, especially if you are happy with low/mid grade. I'm always hunting for really high grade, so it's always a task to find those type of books. I also prefer to find them out in the wild, at an obscure auction or at a Comic Con, so makes it much more interesting/rewarding.
@TT-fq7pl
@TT-fq7pl 5 күн бұрын
@@StillOnly35c Absolutely. And if you're able to travel to the US occasionally (as you have done, based on some recent videos), your hunting in the wild will obviously be more productive.

Congratulations and Seasons Greetings, a job well done Sir and good luck with the signed Mister Miracle # 1 going forward, I have a few of the fourth world books in the collection signed by Kirby but in all my years of collecting I dont recall seeing a Mister Miracle # 1 signed by Kirby , it is something that I would have bought had I come across it, but no doubt they will be out there and the good thing about MM#1 it is a book that seems to hold its condition well, good luck with sourcing it, I am sure that you will find one eventually.

I don't think they were evenly distributed. They weren't exported to the UK and could only get them here from dealers. Appearing quarterly should have allowed the writers and artists to develop better stories and art rather than producing them faster on a monthly basis. Their thinly spread distribution and the fact that Marvel were discontinuing some of their best comics at the time they were being finished, are the main reasons I think for their cancellation.
@StillOnly35c
@StillOnly35c 5 күн бұрын
You bring up some great points youtube.com/@expressoric! The distribution issues definitely impacted the availability and towards the end of the run, the quality of those comics. It's fascinating to think about how different the landscape could have been with more consistent Giant Size releases. That said, the Annuals that followed were at least new material on a regular basis.

Very thorough explanation of the rather convoluted history of Marvel's Bronze Age Giant-Size books David. I'd be surprised if the upcoming G.S. Omnibus includes the Doc Savage story from G.S. Spider-Man #3 due to rights, similar to the G.S. Conan stories not being included. These comics are far from under-appreciated: G.S. X-Men, Invaders and Super-Villain Team-Up launched their respective series and Avengers featured important stories which connected with the regular monthly title. However some titles such as the Westerns and G.S. Marvel Triple Action are hard to find because fewer were sold at the time of their release, Westerns having fallen out of popularity and Triple Action being completely reprints.
@StillOnly35c
@StillOnly35c 5 күн бұрын
Thank you for your insightful comment as always Charlie youtube.com/@charliedogg7683! The history of Marvel's Bronze Age is indeed complex and these Giant-Size books hold a special place in comic lore as well as my heart. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the upcoming Marvel Omnibus handles those rights issues and if we get to see the Doc Savage issue!

Great interview I’m in the US and I’ve noticed that 1 US comic does 2 to 3 UK weekly for example mighty world of marvel 190 & 192 have US covers but 191 is not a US cover so are these new covers from US or done in-house UK? I’ve always wondered

@StillOnly35c 5 күн бұрын
Thank you for your thoughtful comment youtube.com/@T-RavisComics! It’s always great to hear comic fans in the US interested in the Marvel UK books. In answer to your question, all Marvel UK issues used artwork supplied by Marvel's creative teams in the NY office for the most part. As they had weekly issues, new and unique covers would be needed and these would be unique artworks created specifically for the Marvel UK books. I'm lucky enough to own a couple of original art pieces from that era.
