Thx for this great overview! I am not sure about that product. For me it basically is a "normal" mobile phone. Without SIM Card connection. But any other functionality. So there is no single feature that does make this special for an mp3 player. I mean, can you use it blindly? Next/previews song from your pocket just with your hands? Or is there a function for a sleep mode or turn off when not using? I think I really like that product. But I also like any other mobile phone. So maybe a very good aged top phone could be even better when buy second hand. Isn't it?

@sjm4306 17 сағат бұрын
They generally don't make phones this small anymore so that's a "small" benefit (pun intended). I'd also be less worried about damaging a cheap android mp3 player than a phone (though I guess if you go back far enough you could find a decent one for cheap but then the battery would likely be tired/old). As for using any phone/android media player blindly, most bluetooth audio devices can control track skip, volume and playback from onboard physical controls so that's always an option.

I have a Sony MZ-N707 in which the menu button is unresponsive. I checked the front panel PCB and it does not have a sign of anything being bad such as cracks or leaks etc. What I did find was that none of the components on the PCB except for those labeled JP had continuity. The ribbon cable is intact without any sign of breakage. How would you go about fixing it? Would a remote control attachment be able to access the menu and bypass the front panel?
@sjm4306
@sjm4306 5 күн бұрын
So if only the menu button doesn't work then it's likely that there's oxidation of the pad contacts under the sticker and metal snap dome of the menu button. I had the exact same problem with the volume up button of my n920 and cleaning the pads under the button and inside the metal snap dome with isopropyl alcohol got it to work again.
@myvid222

@@sjm4306 I checked the pads on the front panel PCB and found nothing abstructing its contacts from the buttons above. Regardless I cleaned with isopropyl alcohol to no avail.
@sjm4306
@sjm4306 3 күн бұрын
@myvid222 also check the inside of the metal snap dome, I once found one that was very dirty but oddly the pads it connected to were very clean. If it's clean I suspect a tiny trace or via fracture that's preventing the signal from going through. The way the buttons work on these players is all buttons are on a resistive ladder which goes to the front board controller. It reads all buttons and encodes the data as serial to feed down the ribbon to the dsp on the main board that controls everything. Any break or added resistance in the chain between the buttons and dsp will affect their operation.

Dear Sjm, do you notice that its very common that when the volume controls of these older models are turned, it causes a serious loud 'noise' (especially in the left channel) of these very old models (D2 through D11)? Can a volume cleaning spray be effective? Or must the volume potentiometers be replaced? Its odd that the right channels have zero noise, but left channel has very loud noise. This happens to both my D-2 and D-11.
@sjm4306
@sjm4306 6 күн бұрын
I'd guess the outer carbon track is the left channel and thus more susceptible to wear/oxidation. You can usually rejuvinate them at least temporarily by squirting some contact cleaner or >90% isopropyl alcohol into the edge and work the wheel back and forth a lot to wipe the contacts.
@gregvisioninfosoft

@@sjm4306 Ive purchased some new chinese made vol controls, i know not best quality. and a 'for parts only' D2, that i plan to rip apart to see if/how I might feel comfortable to open my 'real' player to first squirt some cleaner, and then if that doesnt work at a future time see if i can find a better part to try to replace it with. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the electronics repair videos that makes life easier. I bought a japanese Wii Fit Plus balance board (planning to play golf w/ dad, God-willing), bought it for US$18, everything works except that it won't turn off when you exiit the Wii and turnit off, the blue LED just keep blinking non-stop when the Bluetooth not connected. It all works it just this one defect. A part of the battery contact is corroded (greenish thing), I was wondering if that will solve the not turning Off (it also has difficulty turning on when you sync it. I was wondering if it's an easy fix, if it's an easy fix, to preserve the relationship with the accommodating seller, I'll just opt for him to reimburse a bit of amount since it's technically defective but how many percent do you think is defective? 20% 10%, that's the amount I'll ask. It's also going to be expensive and a huge hassle to ship back. Thank in advance for the advice. God bless.

Hi, speaking of controllers, what's the usual fix for the Black Wiimote W/ Motion Plus Inside not recognizing the Nunchuk? Is there a factory reset for its firmware? If you unplug the Nunchuk and the game needs it (like the best shooter Sin & Punishment), nothing happens, it doesn't recognize you'd unplugged the Nunchuk. I've cleaned the contacts between the two with 99.99% isopropyl. Thank you.God bless

Wiimotes have no user upgradable firmware so I suspect it's a physical connection issue on the i2c bus. Inspect the path from the bottom connector to the mcu in the wiimote as well as the nunchuck side.

@@sjm4306 Hi thank, I just bought this used, so we can play the best simulation of golf at home (I even bought his balance board so the precision with Tiger Woods game would be the most realistic :-) and I hope it works. The black Nunchul works wit the white Wiimote w/ Motion Plus Inside. I can't open it, I mighty not be able to refund it from him :-D though I got the Wiimote w/ Motion Plus built-in & Nunchuck for about US$18. If he's to give me back a bit of the money I transferred coz' the black Wiimote w/ Motion Plus Inside is essentially part defective, I wonder how much should he reimburse (I don't want to strain relationships though as much as possible). That'd be a great next video too :-) if you can fix a Wiimote that won't talk to the Nunchuck (that's in good condition), that'd be a good expansion to the Wii which retro too now, vintage now as well coz' it's 20 years old now (antique is usually 100 years old or more).

I've cleaned the their connections well but it won't recognize the Nunchuk. I bought it with the Nunchuk for US$17.15, what percentage do you think is the defect. Is it 10%, 20% or another percentage so I can tell him to just reimburse me partially coz' it's technically a defective item but not 100% defective or even 67% defective, the buttons work. Also is this kind of problem easy to fix? What's your advice? God bless, Godspeed.

I have a Sony Walkman d-e330, bright blue with yellow accent. I have had it from new and have taken great care of it. Mine has fresh batteries, the disc spins, but the numbers of tracks don’t progress, I can hear a clicking noise inside about every 5 seconds, but does not play music at all. I opened the top, took out the disc, cleaned the lazer with iso alcohol, and tried to slide the mechanism from side to side. It will move, but I can hear gear noise. I’ve moved it from side to side many times, to loosen it up a bit, lightly lubed the small metal bar on one side that the thing slides back and forth on, and then put the disc back in and it flashes “disc”…..nothing else happens and I can still hear clicking every 5 seconds or so. I’ve also tried to advance the track, and then go back, but still nothing.
