I just ordered a 5V regulator (similar to yours) for my backlit GBP. I initially wasn't going to do the 5V reg mod, but after playing my copy of Final Fantasy Legend (for a grand total of two days) I noticed my batteries draining really fast. I don't mind the battery drain since I can always charge them, but I felt uneasy about what was happening to the game cartridge's battery (CR2025 I believe). Final Fantasy Legend is expensive and hard to find on eBay nowadays, and I don't wanna risk ruining the cartridge, so I guess I'll need to install the regulator if I wanna clock the game. Anyways, it'll also give me the option to use a Flash Cart in the future, so no complaints. Thanks for showing us how to do the install!
@sjm430623 сағат бұрын
Afaik the internal game save battery shouldn't be affected by anything outside the cart but doesn't hurt upgrading the 5v regulator.

@sjm4306Күн бұрын
The sd card's partition that holds the os and music isn't mountable outside the player so you cant view the files like you can on a normal storage device. If you knew the filesystem/partition type it might be possible to mount and access it in linux though that's a bit outside my knowledge.

I had a pair similar to this, but a little smaller. I really liked that I my hearing wasn't obstructed to ambient sounds, but they began to hurt the edges of my ears after about an hour. I usually keep my earbuds on for several hours a day. They died after a few weeks. That's been my luck with inexpensive BT earbuds. I've had close to a dozen pair. They last from a few weeks to a few months before they just stop working.
@sjm4306Күн бұрын
The non-user-replaceable batteries are definitely the biggest weakpoint of earbuds imo. Especially if you are regularly draining them to <30% that'll make them age much faster. Iirc there was a company who designed buds with batteries that were replaceable (and they sell replacements too!) but afaik they are the only ones doing that so far.

Nice display, thanks for sharing! It occurs to me the the !OE input controls the shift register outputs (!G input). I don't quite understand how this could be used to dim the displays via PWM since (I believe) the displays themselves latch the character data. It would be nice if there were a blanking input directly into the HPDL-1414 display chip. In any case, nice job!

I have also unscrewed the fourth battery screw as @_nowayout pointed out. Not shure if it helped or not, I didn't figure out how to separate the other handle part. The most difficult part was actually unscrewing those angled screws with no room for a screwdriver.

Hey how’s it goin? This might be a long shot but, I’m having issues with my new-in-box NW-E003F Walkman. I’ve left it charging overnight but even if I did that, it won’t display anything. The device is recognizable from my Win.10 machine, and even shows its contents on file explorer and Sony crappy Sonicstage software, but, even still it won’t display anything. Do you think it’s more of an issue with the display? Or are there other issues that I may have to unfortunately consider for? Any advice or help is really appreciated
@sjm430611 күн бұрын
So unfortunately your display is likely dead. These early oleds can age even if unused due to manufacturing defects that let oxygen into the semiconductor material so it oxydizes. The only fix is to find a donor device with a working screen to pull it from.

I notice you mentioned (1) using a SanDisk Clip Sport previously, and (2) listening to long stretches of music on shuffle mode. That's my use case in a nutshell :D I am on my third Clip after wearing out two Fuze players and one Clip--the second was an 8gb model that I retired in favor of a 16gb model when my library outgrew it. The reason I settled on these was they were the first player I've tried where I did not find myself being able to (unconsciously) know which track was going to be picked next during shuffle playback. This was following years of experimenting with various generic Chinese players that, as it turns out, only imitate random playback -- every time you powered these up, they'd play the _same sequence of tracks_ , despite being set to shuffle mode the whole time. Watching the index numbers revealed that these players didn't even pick a "random" track most of the time, instead mostly following the index in sequence order and occasionally skipping ahead or back (but always by the same number of tracks) With that (long-winded) story out of the way, have you noticed similar patterns with this player? The only time I noticed "familiar" tracks cropping up on the Clip was if I paused the playback long enough for the device to time out and power down by itself, the next session would contain tracks I previously heard...just not in the same order. If I _manually_ powered it down, the next session would pick up where I left off, but the track selection did not repeat anything from the last session. If the player in this review can match that, it would certainly be a contender. Right now I'm testing a different generic metal-bodied player...it looks like the Surfans F20, but with the controls reversed and headphone/line out jacks at the top. Its listing on Amazon literally gives its brand name as "Generic" 😂

I have one of these and can't find the bluetooth dongle! Is there anyway to get it working connecting it via another device?
@sjm430629 күн бұрын
I think the dongle is rf, not bluetooth which means it's hard coded to only work with that dongle and pc's usually do not have rf wireless capability unfortunately. Both bluetooth and rf use the same 2.4ghz band but use completely different protocols so it'd require you to write your own wireless stack/driver to get it to work with your standard bluetooth card.

I liked the appearance of the Nano 7th gen, but my family could never afford it. The Mechen one looks interesting, but damn that UI is bad. If that UI was better and it could handle higher res album art (even 800x800 is fine) I might get one of those, but otherwise might just stick to my phone. FLACs with ID3 tags and album art can trip up some players though which could make finding one for me harder.

Can you clarify about the ram upgrades? it says you can't replace the RAM because it's hard soldered but underneath the fan there are additional slots to add more RAM? @sjm4306Ай бұрын

@voyagerfilms hard soldered ram chips (and would likely require a bios patch to support). Unless you have professional reflow equipment and experience this will be very difficult. As for part numbers, I'd stick with what's written on the original ram chips (I dont know without taking mine apart again, but I use mine as a 24/7 micro server so I'd rather not).

@sjm4306Ай бұрын
I do qualitative audio reviews since numerical specs are mostly only useful for relative comparison especially when it comes to something as subjective as my definition of what sounds good (which very much will differ from everyone else's). If you really are interested in specs then google exists and I'm sure the manufacturer would respond to info request emails.

It works. I just finished the swap/upgrade to 32GB(all I had spare). I also updated to 1.04. The order I performed the tasks: 1. open Sport Go using pry method (carefully - I used a fine precision screw driver), 2. remove silver tape, 3. slide retainer back, 4. lift retainer up, 5. turn Go upside down an uSD card drops out, 6. Make image of uSD card as shown in video, 7. burn image to replacement uSD card, 8. place newly formatted uSD card in Go, 9. close retainer clip, 10. connect to USB port, 11. if OLED lights up, you did everything correct. Next, D/L "update.hex" from SanDisk/WD site (Clip Sport Go uses 1.04). Copy "update.hex" file from computer to Go using File explorer - file goes at the bottom. Finally, unplug USB cable - Go should update. Once complete, restart Go, make changes to settings then reformat. Once reformatting completes, you are ready to go. This is just a summary of this video. Still watch the video so the instructions make sense!
