@@TheKayakCrew how much water are you getting in your boat!?! No it doesn't pool because I don't get much in. When I first saw the Deschutes I thought it would be crap, because of the floor. But I was so wrong. The spreader tube does a good job of making the floor relatively firm. It's a bit like a packraft floor, only better. Yes you can sometimes feel the water underneath you, but equally you can also stand a flask on it while you paddle.

@@MoreThanJustaCleaner If I'm on the sea and it's a bit coppy then I can get spray lapping over the decks and sides which gradually collects under the drop stitch floors on the kayaks I use. Even on canals/rivers, you get a bit collecting due to dripping from the paddle but it's usually much less than on the sea. With drop stitch floors, it usually runs off and collects under the floor and I pump it out with a bilge pump. The requirement to do so varies depending on the water conditions - sometimes 4-5 times a trip on a choppy sea (including getting swamped by waves launching sometimes), but sometimes not at all on canals/flat rivers. Seems the Deschutes would be OK for flat rivers/canals then, which is probably what I'd use it for mostly. When solo paddling mostly used my Aqua Spirit last year on rivers, which is my lightest kayak but a couple of kilos heavier than the Deschutes

@TheKayakCrew I avoid rough sea 😅 yeah ok that's a fair point. For me one of the reasons I really love the Deschutes is because it doesn't have a separate floor. It's so much less faff drying up, especially if you're packing away in damp or rainy conditions. I actually prefer single piece crafts, including the DS ones like the Ottawa. The seat in the Deschutes is half good, half bad. The bad bit is the base - it's filled with that hard, white foam, which soon makes my arse numb. Thankfully it's zipped so you can remove it and replace it with something you prefer, which I have. Mine has a gel waffle cushion base with an inflatable cushion on top. It's a bit thicker and so much more comfortable. In the last upload where I was out in the Deschutes on the River Don, yes the boat got some water in from the whitewater runs and from popping the drone boat in wet. It did pool under me but only into the seat - it's easy to unzip, remove the cushions and dry out at home. I was in a drysuit so it wouldn't have mattered if it had been high enough to reach me, but it didn't 👍😊

@ thanks for the info. I was looking for a light and stable solo kayak this year. The Deschutes who was one of the ones that I was considering based upon your comments, but I was also looking at the Aquaglide Cirrus, Sea Eagle EZLite and the Aqua Marina Halve (which can be used tandem too). I think you have used all of these, would you say you have a favourite between them? I know what you mean about the single piece kayaks, I have an Aquatec Ottowa too and also a sandbank optimal. They are easier to dry. I’ve not had a chance to see your video re the ‘drone boat’ yet but will try check it out later. Cheers

@TheKayakCrew in terms of having a favourite I know you've got enough experience to know 'one size doesn't fit all'. It's horses for courses and in this case different boats are better for different things. For a long distance day paddle the EZlite would be a great option. As a solo camping boat, the Halve. If you've got a lot of portaging to do, the Cirrus or Halve are lightweight options where wheels aren't needed. Do you get what I mean? Then Deschutes ticks the fun, day boat for me, favoured over the Cirrus because it's single piece and still lightweight. Does all that make sense?

Bear in mind that a month of use with me is the equivalent to a year of general household use. I've replaced the brush a couple of times and filters. But yes, it's still going strong 👍😁

@@jasonmirra7752 I don't have access to any at the moment. However I'd use a degreaser or oven cleaner, spray it on, leave for a couple of minutes, be then wipe with a cloth rinsed in warm soapy water. Repeat as required.
