Man, I’ve been to Svalbard six times and Barrow, Alaska twice now. I love the high arctic and I’d love to visit Alert but it sounds like not just anyone can go there? The photos one could get from there would be awesome!

Stopover? Isn't Nunavut a way out of the way place? How does one stop over there? Otherwise, very cool and fascinating.

Very cool to see how your tank farm works. I fuel at YXE airport and part of our duties is managing the tank farm. I just hope you dont have as many valves to turn as we do, if any at all! 😆When it gets to --40 they are a bitch!

As of July 1, 2023, the estimated population of Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut, was 8,296. This reflects an increase from the 2021 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 7,429. Notably, Iqaluit has the lowest population of any capital city in Canada. The city is characterized by a youthful demographic, with an average age of 30.1 years.

Although you didn't bring it up, I find the syllabics interesting, such as the one for Iqaluit: ᐃᖃᓗᐃᑦ. The former name was Frobisher Bay, until it was designated as the capital of Nunavut.

Really not sure how you have so few subscribers, this is amazing. I’d imagine maybe 1% of the population would ever visit such a place, or even know it exists. Thanks for the tour!

It's not a settlement. It's a joint Canadian/American military outpost. A settlement In northern Canada is the official name of a certain sized community inhabited by civilians. The most northern "settlement" in Canada is Grise Fiord in the Baffin region of the high eastern Arctic.
@AnywhereGoes7 күн бұрын
a place, typically one which has previously been uninhabited, where people establish a community

Re. the bedroom, "Nothing fancy". But, at least you don't have to sleep outside.😀 Good video. I've long wondered what Alert looks like. My farthest north point is Kotzebue, AK, on a 2-day tour of the Arctic out of Anchorage back in '84, which also took me to Nome.

That was a really excellent video - super interesting and well narrated. I’m surprised by how many facilities there are! People in Svalbard, Norway, say that Longyearbyen is the northernmost town on the planet, and that may be true, but, as you mentioned, Alert is the most northern permanent settlement on earth. Thanks for an amazing, informative video!
