6:10 Was that a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints congregation? Sounds like it is considering you mentioned that a lady from the congregation was giving her testimony. I’m a member of The Church, so that’s why I ask. If that’s the case, then that lady probably should not have said that. I don’t know what She considers worldly music, because to everybody’s shock, we are actually quite loose when it comes to listening to music. We try to avoid music where the lyrics are highly sexualized (like if the lyrics were a graphic depiction of sex, then it no we would not be able to listen to it), but you will find that the vast majority of Pop music, we are fine with. I listen to radio music all the time, and have no problem with it. The thing is though, is that sounds like an act of self righteousness, which is actually something the church teaches against. We are told to judge righteously, and not self righteously. As Jesus has declared in the Sermon on the mount: Matthew 7 “1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” If someone in our congregation does seem to do that, then please know that it’s actually not normal for that to happen, because it goes against what we and most Christians believe. You will find most members of The Church are super friendly.

I was in a cult 17 years ago, they tried to get rid of all my old friends and family, were too powerful in the leadership, the deacons had all the power, tried to perform excorcisms on people they didnt like, studied the bible all the time, and wore church clothes 7 days a week, and the women wore dresses all the time, and i left because they hated the fact i didnt use my psychiac medicine, so they kicked me out and i left.

Would add the Vineyard churches to watch, the one I left is a bit cultish. Encourage tithing and discourage spending time with non-Christian family. They don't support grieving the loss of a loved one, they say grieving is lack of faith. Also constantly asking for money for a new church building.

1. They influence you to cut off close friends and family (NOT removing yourself from toxic people but healthy relationships too). 2. Enforced dress code without nuances of individuality. Not simply saying "modesty", but there are clear regulations. 3. You are not allowed to disagree with leaders. At all. The other members will vervbally attck you if you disagree with leadership. Leaders will not admit they are wrong. 4. When you do something that is against their teachings, they openly shame you. 5. They shun people for leaving and cut off all contact with old "backslidden" friends instead of hoping for the best for that person. 6. One of the leaders is trying to justify their right to take advantage of members $e×u@lly. They may even try to twist scriptures in the bible to manipulate this into happening. 7. Pastor-worship. Anything the pastor does is always to be praised and correct no matter what. 8. The leader has a slowly-changing personality. May be very charismatic and likeable to everyone in the beginning but slowly start to be critical or demeaning of certain people over time. 9. Constantly talking about unchurched people being "evil" or "enemies of the church". Black & white thinking, "us against them". They do this to keep you from listening to any opinions or beliefs of outsiders. 10. Demanding, manipulating, or shaming you into tithing. Making it a requirement. Tithes are to be given freely. 11. Heavy focus on trivial things. Taking the scripture and making small, loosely interpreted things a salvation issue. *note: She did say sometimes a church may have one or two of these SMALLER signs and she would not call that a cult but instead "a church with a couple of issues".

It's tempting to label a church a "cult" because you had a bad experience with them. However, there is a substantial difference between a controlling church and a cult. What you've described is mostly controlling church behavior. I was part of a highly controlling church for almost 20 years. I saw many people disfellowshipped or excommunicated, church leaders involved in sex scandals, aggressive evangelism. I, myself, tricked a guy into converting to Christianity. I gave him false promises that he'd get a girlfriend if he joined our fellowship. Evil, desperate stuff like that. This church has been in the news for years about some of the creepy stuff they would have us do. I still wouldn't consider them a cult. 1) Cults typically have one guy or group of guys who are highly charismatic and claim to have extraordinary abilities or make messianic claims. 2) Cults tend to have wildly different beliefs from the rest of the mainstream belief system. They might have their own religious texts or make their followers adhere to strict, unbiblical rules. 3) Christian-like cults will somehow downplay the importance of Jesus or reject the triune nature of God altogether. 4) Cults tend to separate themselves a bit from the rest of society. They might live in their own self-sufficient communities or encourage their followers not to associate with members of the greater culture. Examples of well-known cults: Jehovah's Witnesses, Church of Jesus Christ LDS, Unification Church, Branch Davidians. Even the Roman Catholic Church meets some of these criteria.

Your Scentsy candles won't save anyone from hell, Sapphira, and your greed is going to profit no one. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The work of the church is the spiritually feed Christians, to train them up to do the work of God, preaching the gospel and winning souls to Christ. You're not going to win anyone to Christ by denying the word of God. And Christ is the word of God. If you're saved, which I doubt, you should be afraid, because there's a righteous God in Heaven that cannot excuse sin. Either it will condemn you for all eternity, or you will be chastised here on Earth. It could cost you your life. Acts 5 1¶But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5¶And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him. 7¶And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9¶Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. 12¶And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 13And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 15Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

True Christianity is not religion. It is a life of liberty in Christ. The Christian experience throughout the vast majority of the world is far different than what we in the first world. They often like to say we are a true "new testament " church. No they are not. Do you have any idea what the early church was like? There were no fancy buildings, no keeping record of your tithe, no membership rolls. I used to love going to church, but about 8 years ago, I began to notice subtle changes. My spirit is drying up for lack of true preaching. I'm tired of the ever growing power of the leadership. Recently, there was a disciplinary issue resulting in withdrawal of membership. They have been advised by legal counsel to not to give any details, but little details are not adding up. In my gut, I believe it was done to regain full control of a church ministry. I'm asking the Lord for a non-judgmental attitude about it until more details ae known, as well as when and how to leave. It's hard, very hard. I recently read of a well known controversial biblical scholar once said that he didn't believe any church should have more than about 50 members. I'm inclined to think the same way.

New Covenant Whole Gospel: How many modern Christians cannot honestly answer the questions below? Who is the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Who is the “son” that is the “heir” to the land in Matthew 21:37-43? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary? What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. What brings all local churches together into one Body under the blood of Christ? The answer is found below. Let us now share the Old Testament Gospel found below with the whole world. On the road to Emmaus He said the Old Testament is about Him. He is the very Word of God in John 1:1, 14. Awaken Church to this truth. Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by husband unto them, saith the LORD: Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Is the most important genealogy in the Bible found in Matthew 1:1 (Gal. 3:16)? Is God's Son the ultimate fulfillment of Israel (John 1:49)? Why has the modern Church done a pitiful job of sharing the Gospel with modern Orthodox Jews? Why would someone tell them they are God's chosen people and then fail to share the Gospel with them? Who is the seed of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15? What did Paul say about Genesis 12:3 in Galatians 3:8, 3:16? Who is the "son" in Psalm 2? Who is the "suffering servant" of Isaiah 53? Who would fulfill the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34? Who would fulfill the timeline of Daniel chapter 9 before the second temple was destroyed? Why have we not heard this simple Old Testament Gospel preached on Christian television in the United States on a regular basis? Once a person comes to understand the New Covenant promised to Israel and Judah in Jeremiah 31:31-34, which is found fulfilled by Christ during the first century in Hebrews 8:6-13, and Hebrews 10:16-18, and specifically applied to the Church in 2 Corinthians 3:6-8, and Hebrews 12:22-24, man-made Bible doctrines fall apart. Let us now learn to preach the whole Gospel until He comes back. The King of Israel is risen from the dead! (John 1:49, Acts 2:36) We are not come to Mount Sinai in Hebrews 12:18. We are come instead to the New Covenant church of Mount Zion and the blood in Hebrews 12:22-24. 1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 1Jn 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 1Jn 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. God is not now a “racist”. He has extended His love to all races of people through the New Covenant fulfilled by His Son’s blood at Calvary. The Apostle Paul warned against using “genealogies” in our faith in 1 Tim. 1:4, and Titus 3:9. The following verses prove the Holy Spirit is the master teacher for those now in the New Covenant. Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost. Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Act 11:16 Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 1Co 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1Jn 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. I was raised in a Baptist cult. It screwed me up for a long time. I got glared at if I wore jeans and not a long dress. I was labeled as a bad member and was ostracized even more for having a differing political view. I was called a baby killer and told I should have been aborted because I’m pro-choice. We weren’t allowed to listen to any music that wasn’t Christian music. Anything with a backbeat was banned. Country song about God? Banned. You leave? Talked bad about. Not married? You cannot even hug. Gay? Ostracized. Go to public school and not the one in the basement of the church? Ostracized and looked down upon. Your parent isn’t always there? You need to bring them more. Your parents don’t want you to go? Do it anyway. Your a woman? Must be married by the end of college and not work more than absolutely necessary. Want to go to college? Has to be a religious one. There were very strict gender roles. A man SAs you? You should have been more modest and your marriage is ruined (whether your married or a child). Friends with a nonmember? You need to bring them or stop being friends. Someone leaves any church because of religious abuse? They should have stayed. Want an abortion because your husband is abusive and you don’t want your kid to go through that? Kill your husband. You got SAd and are pregnant? You have to keep the baby because it’s your destiny. Miss a service? Ostracized. Want to read a book? It can’t have any fictional creature or it’s devil worship. I am now a pagan and hiding it from my (very religious) family until I am old enough to move out.

Sorry, churches are cults. None of them can support anything they believe. The primary function of a cult is to get you to believe something that is unsupportable. Give you rules that keep you following their doctrine. People use too extreme descriptions of cults to differentiate their church from a cult. Cults do that. All church's engage in cult behavior because they are cults.

You will not get any of my time!! No thanks. My tithing dollars are consecrated to build the Lord's kingdom! Many Pastors fly in private jets and drive luxurious limos and take expensive vacations! In the LDS Church our prosperity comes from a base of private ownership of taxpaying enterprises developed to feed and clothe the disaster-ridden in nations all over the world. We have no private jets nor luxury limos nor mansions for the elite Pastors who fleece the gullible. My donations never contribute to this nonsense. Refugees and homeless the world over only get my donations if the donation specifies HUMANITARIAN! Yes I donate to worldwide relief projects. I also donate monthly to local needy families. LDS CHURCH buys land to grow food for the starving. We provide shelter for refugees the world over. BYU Pathway educates those who want to get an education from home for a fraction of college costs. Perpetual Education Fund also educates those who borrow and repay interest-free when the training is completed. LDS Tithing builds and operates temples, operates BYU campuses, operates Church Educational System, builds chapels the world over as needed, supports over 400 Missions the world over. There are those who assume LDS Church is just another prosperity cult where the elite just get rich. Nothing could be further from the truth. There are thousands of volunteers who serve for no pay whatsoever all around the earth! Absolutely no LDS are getting rich from anything they do. There are a few retired couples who put in 50-60 hour weeks for minimal sustenance allowance in highest corporate level management. The LDS Church is a hugely volunteer church except where their career is church business-related.
