My brick chimny dus the same thing holding heat and give heat after my stove stops burning. My chimney is 100 years old. I also put a soapstone stove on my chimney. This will also give off heat for a long time after it stoped burning. On top of that gasses from burning wood font get cold. No condensing no gasses that wont go up. Its a lot safer to have it in your house and way more efficient then that rocket stove.

While I like the idea of harvesting your own water from your own land...... I don't think much of your tank and you wont either after you have a Earthquake and it collapses and floods out some part of your property, It is just too flimsy. For myself I used to do concrete work and would use that as the medium for building a tank. It is far more durable and wouldn't cost much more.

“Legally” uhh… yeah…. I guess except most states have regulations and red tape a mile long, have to buy permits, have to buy the land for the tank… has to be so many gallons, has to be filtered, has to be stored in such a way that it can not become a breeding ground for mosquitoes… sure it may be legal, but the cost… I just don’t see it being worth it… most expensive water bill I’ve had in my entire life was 45 dollars… for three months. So basically… I’d have to use this for about 200 years for it be “economical” and worth my while money wise… and that’s on the low end of the estimate. I figured 10 grand in cost, materials, etc… I’m sure it cost more than that. 😂

If you have neighbors who breed sheep or goats, you can try asking them to install animals for a few days, depending on the size of your land. They often have the equipment to demarcate and know the area per animal/day. I'm in the French countryside and this is what I do with my neighbors who have sheep. A weekend every 2 or 3 months, depending on the rain and sunshine.

At ~19:00, to get the height for trimming the barrel stack directly, place the drum lid on the spacer bar and measure from the rim there, then measure from the rim when it is placed back on the stack. No need to work out or add on extra gaps.

The reason rainwater collection is illegal in some places has nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with capitalism. Basically, someone else already "owns" that water, so collecting it is "theft," or so the brain-dead logic goes.

Two things comes to my mind. Why in a first place having a tractor didn't you dig deeper, let's say half way of a tank and install it lower. It will help you hold the construction, cool water in summer and help with your pipe idea... and this is where i see this sort of silly. Why don't you just created a roof collecting water above the tank instead of gutters from the roof over the house? Very inspiring idea but with all the equipment you have had to it, i can see way easier ways to collect this rain water with less headache if you know what i mean

I wanted the pad to be able to drain by gravity to the surrounding earth. That meant I couldn’t make it sub-grade. Flush at the lowest. But yes long term I want to build a gutter system. Even with gutters though the amount of water that fall onto the pad surrounding the tank needs an easy way to drain off. I case of tank/plumbing/pump leaks etc.

The only problem with a reflective fence is it will make a hot area in which it is difficult to grow plants. A bit of spray paint and sloping the soil could fix that problem.

In Australia there is a "Goat Industry". They bring in the goats and set up a shock wire fence (which the goats truly know about). Goats don't eat grass, but they love weeds. They rip them out of the ground, roots and all. Goat poo is very good for the soil. Goats are heard animals so 3 or more are advisable.

In India normally we harvest rain water underground below the house itself and we add those filters to the feeding pipes, so gravity does most of the work. These days it is mandatory in all new buildings to harvest rain water. But this storage above the ground is unique.

18:20 for future reference you can always hold the smaller pipe that You’re trying to find the angle necessary to cut, above the large pipe and then use a pen to mark the angle from the bottom of the smaller pipe using the top of the larger pipe as a reference to keep it aligned
