I had to build a steel retaining wall big enough to hold 30,000 gallons of water. So why not make it look modern and cool? This video outlines the build of the retaining wall. Follow up video with the 30,000 gallon rain tank is coming soon.
I managed to build this project in my free time. I work a full time job that keeps me busy. If you want to see me post more videos of equal or better quality, please like, subscribe and share. If it is clear that this video adds value to the world I will do everything I can to make more quickly. But I need your help getting this video out there.

@@noeraldinkabam I would say that the mainstream understanding of ancient Egypt certainly seems to be somewhat incomplete. Hard to blame historians when what you have to go off of is older than dirt. I do not envy their job. Nor do I assume they are always correct. I had to google Mandela effect. What a crazy phenomenon!

Hello, I found you yesterday and watched the rocket stove build and the retaining steel wall today and I must thank you. Your method of explaining covers both build for dummies and for people with some experience without offending either. I love practically all that I’ve seen and how it’s presented and in fact am inspired to build your rocket stove clay build in an extension that I plan on building hopefully this year. Thank you so much and best of luck with all projects in the future. I’ve become an immediate fan and look forward to your following content with what I’d describe as a childlike fervour.

I live in a very dry area. This could be a solution to my water problems, just for gardening. My household use is fairly conservative, so no worries there. Gardening and shade trees require more water than I’m willing to part with. Roof collection with the 5-6 annual gully washers we get could fill a pretty big tank. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Looks like the Texas Hill Country. My guess Gillespie or Llano Counties. Nevertheless it is paradise. Maybe Bandera? Mesquite, Oak and Cottonwood. Limestone in the soil. Ummmmm outside the Llano Uplift and Llano County then but the shot of Enchanted Rock is a big hint. West of Austin and North of San Antonio. Fredrickerg, Kerrville? Anyway, I was raised in the area, now stuck in hot and humid country to the East. Hill Country Geology is fascinating. I very much enjoy your videos and appreciate your additional efforts to bring this all to us.

I like your video. Have you thought about how you going to prevent the steel from rusting? If you use a sacrificial anode on the steel will never rust. And you keep replacing the anode to keep your structure sound for years.

@suburbanbiology

I’m not sure if you watched the full tank video but the description of that video contains rough numbers of the project cost. The whole tank will take over 20 years to pay for itself. One must be motivated by something other than just saving money for it to make any sense. Thanks for commenting!

I like your channel so far keep up the good work. But I am curious if you painted the retaining wall and if so with what, and if not why wouldn't you apply something to keep it from rusting away in a matter of a few years.😊 Sure looks good though. Oh a price breakdown would be great video as well and how much you save on municipal water.

I was wondering whether this rainwater is for human consumption? If so would it make sense to add solar panels to power UV lights to kill off bacteria?
@suburbanbiology
@suburbanbiology Жыл бұрын
Typically the UV lights are used where the water is filtered (inside the pump house). UV is not mandatory if a small enough pore filter is used. I do indeed have solar panels but they are on the house. More details coming in part-two video. Thanks!

Like someone else posted, I came across your rocket stove mass heater video. Great instructional content on the builds with a fair amount of detail and explanation of "how." If I might offer a suggestion, though, I would ask that you go into "why." Why did you build a rocket mass heater outside? Why are you installing a 30k gallon rain barrel in what appears to be a pretty temperate climate? I see that volume in a desert, but a home in the eastern US? Puzzling. I think giving people your justifications and reasoning for pursuing these projects may help your audience grow. This could potentially be a video on its own. Just a thought. Great job on the builds and attention to detail. Your buried rebar tees are called "deadmen", by the way, and they're commonly used in vertically level retention walls. Good job either coming up with this on your own or simply employing the principles.
@suburbanbiology
@suburbanbiology Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips. I had no idea that they were called deadmen. I’m learning as much from these comments as I did from researching for the build. I will try to cover the “why” more in future videos. I do plan on enclosing the porch and building a greenhouse that connects to the porch. I’ll expand on the details as I post the porch renovation videos. I appreciate your support!

@@suburbanbiology Was just recommended your rocket stove mass heater video and this is your second video I now watched. Great information even as someone that is looking at much more scaled down versions of what you are constructing. You do a good job explaining concepts more generally so that folks with varying types of project can find some universal tips and of course you also go into great depth about your project needs specifically which is a great balance.
