Good race. Nice to see a 342 keeping pace with the Crossle and Royale. Can I ask what shocks you are using? A friend is putting a 342 back together after I damaged it several years ago and we'd like to do a few Crossflow cup events next year. I will buy a few of the expensive bits to contribute to the rebuild. Thanks, Brad
@douglasmeis74822 ай бұрын
The shocks are Koni steel-bodied, single adjustable - nothing fancy. Don't spend big money on shocks for a 342, they really don't make much performance difference. I recently set the Vintage FF lap record at Roebling with a busted LR shock. The 342 is a bit handicapped at Road America as it doesn't have the best aero. I had the pace for a podium but made one or two mistakes that shuffled me back a couple of places.

Really nice run. Side by side in the carousel was definitely a low racing IQ move situationally. They threw their race away right there. Solid drive on your part, but your setup is typically more balanced on entry. You tied 12, 13, 14 together well each lap. Really well done for a draggie Lola!

Thanks, but... you do you. My results speak for themselves - track records at Roebling, Summit Point, PittRace and Road Atlanta. VIR is the only track I regularly race where I don't have the track record. Not saying that anyone else should shuffle steer but it works for me. Before video, I could not have told you what my hands were doing - literally not a conscious action so it's 100% natural for me.

I don’t understand the letting 2 cars pass under signal only to then overtake them means. Can anybody please confirm?
@douglasmeis74829 ай бұрын
The 'signal' or 'point-by' is a courtesy to say "I see you". It's not a matter of "letting" 2 cars pass, they were going to pass and I am telling them I see them and will give them racing room. I don't play the blocking game in vintage racing. If someone pulls out of the draft to make a pass, I give them a point by and then try to do it to them to get the position back.

Well driven avoiding the spinning car but a bit unfair that you have to come in for '4 off' if the person that caused it stays out. Different this side of the pond. But thems the rules and we play by them. Good footage, thanks.

It's just this race organization that has the "4 off" rule. other organizations that I run with would allow you to continue. And the spinner also had to report to black flag station.

Doug-Nice drive and avoidance on that first lap too! So how many race weekends do you get out of a set of tires?
@douglasmeis7482 Жыл бұрын
The short answer is - Your mileage may vary. Depends on how hard you are pushing. Guys in the back half of the field might get 10-12 weekends on a set. Up at the pointy end, it's more like 4-6 weekends. Also depends on the track as some are more abrasive than others. This set was also about 3 years old and that may have degraded them as well.

Go watch the movie "Grand Prix" and learn how to draft!
@douglasmeis74822 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you've never driven Formula Ford. "Grand Prix" is a great movie but it's still a movie and not real life and not FF. I might as well watch Talladega Nights and yell "Shake and Bake, baby!". If you watch a few of my other videos, you'll see a lot more drafting and passing. In this race, being at the tail of a four car train is a lot like current F1 cars where the car in front gets DRS, making it impossible for the following car, also with DRS, to make the pass. Same principle. Also, this was the most competitive field of FFs seen in years with a starting field of over 70 cars. Along with the other guys that placed in the top ten, I actually know what I'm doing. Thanks for watching.
@JB917102 жыл бұрын
@@douglasmeis7482 During a Super National at Watkin's Glen while in sixth place in a field of 64 cars, I drafted and slipstreamed the four cars in front of me. Sixth to second in one pass. The championship winning Dan Gurney Eagle, the two factory Van Diemans, and one other car. Oh and, I did it in a Skip Barber Race Series Car!!! You most certainly can draft and slipstream in a Formula Ford.
@JB917102 жыл бұрын
@@douglasmeis7482 James Garner explained perfectly how to do it. Most drivers don't lift in the draft so when they pull out, they have no extra power to work with so they get stuck next to the car.

yes, we get to 4th before the last corner and if track and tires are good, it's flat. I don't think my car is tail happy. In fact, I'm considering a beefier rear bar b/c I have too much push in the slower corners.
