Man the french are always talkin in french just so americans don't know what they're saying! They try that same shit in Canada, too. Its really messed up when you think that they probably would still be living under a monarch had we not told them how to do a revolution..and then they won't even tell us what they know about tarot and only half of what they know about sex..shit's messed up...

Wonderful videos. While you are talking about swords being associated with air, fire and earth, I see also water. If we put swords side by side, it’s show a propagation pattern of circles that looks a lot like a rock being thrown on water.

@@MirrorsofConsciousness I am curious in your deck, being at Merseille side myself...I really feel that I may recommend it to my students and also at seminars I visit to present. I can see pips behaving as mandalas and knights are red and easy to spot, you might be following Elemental Deck kind of pattern, else it could also have been air. Both are alright as per me. 😃

Hi, there. I just came across your video and am very impressed. I note that the comments are a few years old. Are you still producing lessons for the Marseille deck? I certainly hope so, as I just got a deck. :)

Hi there, so glad you enjoyed the video & that you have started your TdM journey! I am still taking a break from producing TdM lessons, but one day I will return to them. Most of the info and exercises in my existing videos is still useful & relevant though! They will get you started, and then it’s a process of finding your own ways to work through practice ☺️

For the different colors they used stencils (pochoirs)or hand painting. It is very long to carve 78 cards in wood. Remember it is a mirror image and very small images too. Impossible to carve exactly the same. I am sure they take great care of their blocks.

I think that’s the Mary Packard, based on the Madenie. The Packard decks are nice (there’s also a Visconti-Sforza) but they are quite big - which makes them great for teaching & videos, but perhaps not as practical for readings. There’s another version of the Madenie by Yves Renaud, which is a more “normal” size, but visually I prefer the Packard even though the Renaud is probably more accurate 😆

I have used reversals since the beginning. It feels super natural to me, and I love the visual dance of the cards, that some come upside down. And I even show them to the querent, so they too can see (even not understanding the meaning of the card) where the unbalance is. I find that all cards always upright so limiting. I know the meanings are the same, but visually it is just so boring! 😄 So in my TdM decks that are symmetrical up and down, I draw a line underneath the illustration so mark the upright postion. I use the same colour as the deck, so the line blends in and doesn't destroy the artwork.

Thanks! Glad you're enjoying :) Any of the Marseille decks I used in this video are great for you, I like the Madienie or the Robledo for a more traditional style pip deck, but there are also good versions of the Burdel that are fun. My go-to Marseille currently is the Robledo because it is "new" in the sense that it is a new interpretation, fresh and clean, but it feels "old" because the backgrounds are an aged/tan color (not stark white) and it is faithful to traditional decks. That said, I have not looked at what is currently available in Marseille-land for the past 2 years or so, so there may be some newer offerings that may suit your needs as well.

I think these are the Bicycle 1800 vintage cards from Ellusionist. There's also a 1900 series (maybe 1800 was a typo? But mine are 1800) Another nice vintage-ey deck is the Bicycle Vintage Classic, which have a different back and have more age-effects (they look "dirtier")

This is really helpful, thank you for putting it together. My only question is whether your associations with Spades might be overdetermined by the English name for them. I can understand how the shape has come to suggest a shovel over time, but for me, it's hard to see them as anything other than a weapon, as the suit was originally described in French ("pique.") The current shape would need to be an extremely stylized (and therefore impractical) shovel, whereas it fits perfectly on the end of a shaft as a pike or a halberd. It seems much easier to get from this shape to the suit of Swords than it is to get a digging tool-except by way of the Biblical "swords into plowshares," which seems pretty roundabout. Regardless, thank you for your time and generosity in sharing these videos with us.
@MirrorsofConsciousness3 жыл бұрын
True, but then there's also the European systems that look at Spades as leaves, which gives an entirely different (and much softer) meaning again. Spades, pikes, spears, etc, often share dual-use or similar development as both weapons and farming implements not only in Europe but also in Asian cultures, so I have no difficulty reconciling that in my reading practice. Even with swords, not all swords are used as weapons - they can be heirlooms, awards, rank signifiers, ceremonial objects, etc, with a wider range of meaning than just "to cause harm by cutting and stabbing" even if that's their fundamental function. To me what's more important than what is the "right" way to view any aspect of card reading is more what makes sense for the reader. Some readers prefer more rigid rules of interpretation, while others prefer a more fluid framework - and there's validity to both and the reasons behind each. But, it's pretty easy to find rigid forms so I Iike to (at least try) to explore alternatives :)
