I feel like if at the end of the solve, any pin position can be left, then why not at the start of the solve? Also 7-Simul Wrs were coming from a long time before

The problem with 3x3 tech is that it's not really getting any better. First we had magnets, then we had maglev, then uv and then finally we got core magnets (I know there are a ton of innovations that have happened in cubing even before magnets but just really referring to recent history). These days it seems like the companies are trying to find the next big technology and they're just kind of throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks. Look at the moyu v10 which has extra magnets in the core and the repelling magnets in the edges. The Tornado v4 has those repelling magnets in the edges and they don't seem to really give you anything more than the core magnets do. At this point, it seems like most speed cubes are competent enough that the only thing that matters is the feel. I like the V10, but I know people who like the gan 14 or the tornado v3 but all of these cubes can be used to set records for sure. This is part of why YJ's 3x3s are so egregious; they don't even reach that standard bar set by the other flagship entries from a couple years ago. I'm glad that we are finally getting some of those technologies in larger cubes and other puzzles (really looking forward to the Dayan fto with the core magnets). I think it's fine to release new cubes every year but I think fewer cubers are going to have any kind of incentive to upgrade to the latest hardware. I somehow doubt I'm going to buy the WRM v11 next year or any of the other releases unless I end up breaking my cube somehow or unless there's a legitimate technological improvement.
