It really is. What film did you shoot? Are you scanning it yourself or having the lab do it?
@AWAShowme17 күн бұрын
@mahartman I sent it to a local lab. Kodak color plus 200 negative film. Does that mean the prints will be reversed - dark areas appear light? I just now realized it was a negative film. 😶
@mahartman17 күн бұрын
@@AWAShowme Cool! Color plus 200 is awesome- super similar but with a touch more vibe. If the lab is scanning for you, you're going to get back normal looking images! If you're planning on scanning yourself, you will have to either invert it using lightroom curves, or a tool like Negative Lab Pro. I am planning on doing a video on Negative Lab pro soon!

Hey, man, I have seen a ton of videos like this and they never actually teach you how to scan your film. What are you doing for exposure, how are you converting the negative image to color, and what do you do for focus? maybe there's a video I am missing, but also how do I know how far up or down I need to set up my camera? Super weird that everyone is like, get a copy stand use a DLSR, but that's it?? lol - I am a long-time film guy, but never scan outside of a flatbed, or my old Nikon cool scan for slides. And I bet using my DSLR would be much better resolution and quicker. I just need some more steps to get set up. I really appreciate any help you can provide. Also, that video was Legit as far as color, styling, and whatnot. Loved the crushed shadows on the right side and the colors. Great work! Oh, and maybe tell us why you almost quit film? I'd like to hear that story. Since I basically almost quit digital. It would be interesting to hear about the journey.
@mahartman19 күн бұрын
I appreciate this comment and insight. This video was intentionally surface level, aimed at simply showcasing this alternative method to scanning. However, I do wish in hindsight I dug a bit deeper on the actual settings/process on the camera side. I have two new videos aimed at filling in the gaps on the way. One, focused more on the shooting side, and the other on the actual scanning/editing side. Be on the lookout! Maybe one day I will share that story!

I have this same set up. I switch from my 16mm 1.4 to 27mm 2.8. I recently pre ordered the xm5 so I can keep the 27mm on it and the xt5 will keep the 16mm on it. Patiently waiting for the xm5 back order.

I would consider Dehancer if I didn’t have to buy separate services between the plugin and iPhone. Seems greedy. If I buy a $500 plugin the damn iPhone app should be included.

It's tough for sure. I think its firstly a business focused approach, as having employees dedicated to making sure users have a "good" app experience can't be free. Maybe a discount or your first year for free would be a nice add-on.

Looks really good. For cable management, I went with a BTOD cable channel. They are expensive, but if you've got a bunch of power bricks, then it works quite well. Cable sleeves and cable spines are your friend to deal with some of those things too so I'd look at them. Docking stations are tough, I like the Caldigit TS4 personally which is what I'm switching to from the Razer Mercury Thunderbolt Dock. I dislike the docks that have the laptop cable on the front because I'd rather not have a cable laying across the front of the desk if I can avoid it. Overall I think it looks really nice and you did a fantastic job with the background pieces.
@mahartman2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I’ve heard a lot about the Caldigit. I’ve also seen the new Anker Prime docking stuff and it looks super slick with solid connectivity in the back and front! I do really want to sleeve up that single dangly cable.

Very nice setup! For the few remaining exposed cables, I use cable sleeves, it doesn't do much at hiding them but it makes them look more uniform and less messy

Thank you! And that is a really good suggestion. Totally forgot about those. Got any recommendations?
@bro_vtech74202 ай бұрын
@@mahartman I got the cheap Amazon ones that show up when you look up “cable sleeves”. They’re made from a black fabric that’s pretty stiff yet flexible enough. They look very good and can accommodate a decent amount cables, but the fabric at their ends can come apart easily, even more so when you cut them. I usually put Velcro strips or electrical tape to cover up the ends. I would recommend them, but there might be a better / more expensive option that I don’t know about
