❤Wonderful video sir, btw The Chola Empire (which existed since 4 BC and reached peak in 10th century) had strong connections with Greeks and Romans as well as the Chinese as it controlled the entire Indian Ocean at 10th century. There has been Roman coins found in temples built by Cholas. The sunken city of Poompuhar which is currently being researched as it is hypothesized to be 15000 years old which makes it one of the oldest cities in the world. It was ruled by Cholas and even had an Egyptian style lighthouse that is currently underwater. I’d be glad to see your video on Chola influence on trade between the west and the east.

Emperor is like, "Did you hang my official photograph in every government building?" "Almost. A few of the government employees are dragging their heels. Others took the G's from the keyboards as an act of protest." "Well... Make sure it gets done. It's important our federal employees know who they work for." I always wonder why it is that these kind of documentaries do not mention the great attraction the Empire possessed in that the citizens were forbidden to bear arms. What raider could ask for more?

You'll never know how many have been sold on ebay under the innocuous title of "silver coin". I've seen US duel currency occupation quarters under that description for 99 cent opening bids then sell just for the scrap silver price.

I am from Aetolia in Greece, and his description of my homeland is 100% correct. And generally, his descriptions about Greek geography are all close to being 100% correct. So i consider him a legitimate source. But his descriptions of other people and cultures in Europe might have small issues. Germanic tribes and Celts dominated vast areas. I doubt that any Roman general passing info about the Celts to Strabo was 100% correct. Good intentions though.

Tracking the mythologies of the different cultures and looking at the parallels is so fascinating. Perhaps there was more contact than was previously believed. The pagan ideas may fulfill the same societal roles in differing societies.

I think the issues you raise are a problem for ancient history in general. Academics dismiss things because of their gut instinct arguments from incredulity, even when all the texts agree on it and there is archaeology backing it up, and it isn't even unlikely according to my gut instinct. For example, I keep seeing academics dismiss the conflict of the orders in the early republic because it resembles events in the late republic (as if the same event, like class war, can't happen in multiple periods!) and replacing it with whatever random theory they prefer that has zero evidence to back it up. Or I see people insisting ancients must have believed all the portents and signs from the gods, despite ancient sources claiming otherwise. It's all very tiresome.

Why do people in the comments consider them Ethiopians? Even though they were literally hunting them. As for the script, I don't think it's descended from Punic. The Garamantes were in contact with the Egyptians, and there's a recent document in hieratic with a Berber text. So it's possible that this Libyco Berber script is descended from there. And their language could be a kind of proto-Berber. We'll have to wait for genetic research to tell us.

A new subscriber here! So this means that the Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Persians/Parthians, and the succeeding Germanic Tribes since then already knew the existence of the Indian subcontinent and the lands beyond if they would just go further Eastwards. Therefore, Asia was and is really known to them but only has a different name in their linguistic perspective.

During the anLysis of the Great Mound at Emain Macha, near Armagh, it was suggested that the stones piled inside the 'Great Hostel' circular structure came from some earlier burial mound. As such, they represented the 'souls' of departed ancestors. And, the act of setting fire to the circular structure sacrificed them to "The Gods" for the benefit of the tribe or "tuath". This act might have been the origin of the story of the 'Wicker Man". This was raised in one of the papers about "Emain Macha' in "Current Archaeology", No.134, Vol.12, No.2, p.46-9. Sadly, this ingenious propsal haas yet to be tested by discussion or other specialists in the period.
