Love it! Check out the Hakka Fist Style Pak Sao. This is my favourite interpretation. I saw it in this video by Adam Chan: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5fal4GClNWDqpYsi=6mJFl4pojgDx6ynu At around 4:20

Looks fine. But the problem with karate is that nobody (in karate world) teaches it in realistic way. If you want to learn it, it is better to leave karate and join MMA, BJJ or judo.

Depends on the club and the sensei. Our sensei ( Goju Ryu Jundokan) teaches these techniques.

This is an absolutely ridiculous "technique" that would have no actual practical use. It's thrown at an awkward angle so there's no power built, it's less than an arm punch. It's bulky so it leaves you open to counter striking. Sad to see it used as something that can be used as an actual strike.

Exactly there are no significant muscles being engaged , it really shows,a misunderstanding of how striking works

first, they are not similar at all, second, why the hell on earth should you step your rear leg forward before firing your cross? Don't try to make useless technique look useful. Like Bruce Lee once said: "take what is useful, reject what is useless"!

You cant " shovel " up into it, its just a little tricep extension . Don't worry about the hands punching is about the body weight / focus BEHIND the hands. This reminds me of the " double neck chop"

This is very misunderstood. I am happy to see you address it. Karate, and early Korean styles that borrowed from Karate were a lot deeper then anyone knew. Even Bruce Lee was very ignore of Karate, as well as some early teachers. This lead to a lot am American Karate break offs as they know motions, but not the intent. We can thank some teachers on the 90s for breaking loose with some information, and giving us permission to think and reason.

At one stage, Shotokan had a Shuto Uke very similar to the Taekwondo demonstrated on this video. I recall reading that Taekwondo Masters travelled from Korea to Japan to study Shotokan karate. So that might account for that. This old version of Shuto, which I quite like, still appears in some Asai Kata.

Many practices copy, or borrow, techniques from other styles/forms of Karate, Gung Fu, ect. Some exactly, others are modified.
@sassuki2 ай бұрын
Has nothing to do with Mae-Geri defense. The kata sequence is very clear: you block a strike coming from above (for example someone trying to hit you on the head with a bottle), and then you twist your hands to bring his arm down, so his head becomes exposed and you follow up with the hammer fist to his (now lowered) head.
@davidskaratetips.73062 ай бұрын
At the time of the video, I was more concerned with the hand stacking. Nothing else. Not what technique that came before it or after it. This is just another example of how hand stacking can be used. I have a few more hand stacking videos coming out soon where there is a follow up technique. Thank you for watching and commenting on this video. Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

Some styles may use it as a strike, but Shotokan uses it as an elbow joint lock.

I don't think so. Gedan-Barai is used in Shotokan always while moving forward, without Sukui-Uké. But I might have something interesting for you, which looks very much like the Shotokan version: kzbin.infoEXhsTffbmIk

I think you can compare the Mawashi-Uké from Shotokan (Movement No.45a in Unsu) with the other techniques shown here, not Uchi-Uké

I am glad these videos are thought provoking. None of my opinions are set in stone. I just enjoy getting people to think more about kata and its endless possibilities.
@davidskaratetips.73062 ай бұрын
You certainly can. But in this video I was focused more on the draw hand to demonstrate its relevance. I see lots of people doing the block without the draw hand. The draw hand is part of the block and should be used.
@sassuki2 ай бұрын
@@davidskaratetips.7306 yes, indeed. Because people are taught Uchi-Uké is a block, so they think it is a waste of time and you will get hit before you complete the technique. But as you probably know, Uchi-Uké is actually a joint breaking technique, where you pull the hand of the opponent with the Hikité, and smash his elbow. This is almost never taught due to some mysterious reason, even though the Hikité is well explained in the very first book of Funakoshi.
@davidskaratetips.73062 ай бұрын
@@sassuki it might not be taught because it is too dangerous perhaps. Also, it could be the instructor’s preference. There are many reasons why one application is taught over another.

Excellent One! I am really struggling with this one!! I learned the modern version of Tekki Shodan, and I still need to think hard to remember to do it the old way!
@sassuki2 ай бұрын
Some say, the one used in Karaté is actually a Kobudo technique using a short weapon, like Tonfa. As they are used in pair, one will protect the head, the other one is to block a low Bo attack (and you pull your leg so that the Bo has no chance to hit you) It seems like Karaté was often practiced with arms in the past.
