The day the first 747 landed at Love Field we all gathered at the fence to watch. For someone who grew up with props, I admit, it was awesome. But a few were disappointed it didn't run off the runway and crash. We are a curious species. Thank you for the video.
@jamesstewartwilliams9 ай бұрын
That must have been a fantastic sight to behold! Just seeing a 707, or perhaps even a dc8, would probably have been enough to light the senses on fire… but seeing a 747 for the first time in the flesh? That must have been otherworldly. An absolute blast. Humans are funny creatures indeed and I’d bet good money that any form of extraterrestrial life out there is very likely afraid of us… a phobia that is undoubtedly rational and well-founded. Thank you for sharing this Nora, I really appreciate it.

Oh absolutely! Couldn’t agree more. Those men flew in daylight without cover. Astonishing levels of bravery. It’s awesome that the show has spread awareness about some of the stuff that they survived. It really wasn’t a long time ago either - relatively speaking! Scary thought. While you were part of the 8th historical society, did you ever get to speak to any of the 8th vets about their experiences (in depth)? I know that a lot of vets obviously don’t like to talk about their experiences, regardless of the conflict. Thank you for commenting. I hope this reply finds you well.

@@jamesstewartwilliams As you may know, all that footage is from "Memphis Belle A Story of a Flying Fortress" by William Wyler. The film was made from footage exposed in April and May 1943.
@jamesstewartwilliams9 ай бұрын
@@walterm140 Yes sir, it is! I started watching the original on KZbin and while watching this same takeoff segment I also began playing soar in the background… the visuals immediately matched up with the soundtrack so beautifully that I had to wrap up the edit early with minimal cropping/pasting. It was almost like the soar theme was made for this exact segment. Some things really are just meant to be. Come to think of it, I must definitely put the original film title in the description just to make sure that others know! Thank you Walter for the film name reminder as well as your response. Much appreciated.

@@jamesstewartwilliams "American bombing in the summer of 1943 had limited the planned expansion of the Luftwaffe's forces. This expansion had begun in mid-1941 when Goring ordered Milch to increase aircraft production sufficiently to quadruple front-line strength. Hitler accelerated the effort with additional demands for greater aircraft production in 1942. Milch merged existing factories into larger complexes in order to increase production. Though efficiency of scale helped raise output, it also made the American bombing effort easier by concentrating production in a few large complexes. Eighth's bombing efforts in the first half of 1943 were small by later standards, but they forced the Air Ministry to request the dispersal of Germany's aircraft manufacturing industry in May 1943. Little was done until Hitler gave Minister for War Production Albert Speer power to order plant dispersal in August 1943. This dispersal and American bombing caused output to lag in the fall of 1943. Speer and Milch planned to reach a production level of 2000 fighters per month by the summer of 1944, but the intensity of the Blitz Week attacks of late July 1943 convinced Milch to try to reach a production level of 2,000 per month by the end of 1943. Continued bombing frustrated Milch's venture and he reduced his production goals to 1,000 Bf 1O9s per month by December 1943 and 1,000 FW 190s per month by March or April 1944. -- "To Command the Sky" pp. 121-22 by Stephen McFarland and Wesley Newton

I couldn’t blame him. It was he whom personally led the development of the nastiest and most degenerate weapon to ever see military use on a battlefield - and that of which is likely to be the very worst out of all possible CBRN threats. It’s utterly tragic that such an eloquent man will not be remembered for his positive contribution to humanity, namely his trailblazing work in the discovery of black holes. I do hope that he found some personal peace and respite within his twilight years.

‘The man in the high castle’ is an accurate and in depth look at such a horrific outcome. The first few seasons of it were superb. It was also surprisingly reminiscent of the MotA episodes set in Germany. I do highly recommend that you give it a watch, but please be forewarned. @@RobDunk22 To me a bit like the B-24 and B-17. The B-24 is sure neglected for the most produced military aircraft of all time (I can only think of Unbroken as a depiction of it), whilst the B-17 is infinitely more famous (Featured in Memphis Belle, Masters of Th Air, Red Tails, The War Lover etc.). Actually Bomber Command also seems fairly neglected, other than for the wrong reasons.
